In my case, I think the reason I had several affairs, in addition to getting theras is due to my being a late bloomer. In my head I was unattractive and havent had a girlfriend until I was in college and that might be the reason why I had to reassure myself that I still “had it” or that I am deserving of other people’s attention sexually by going into these things. I think that after realizing that, I now have a better grasp of my ego, although I still do it for the same reasons mentioned earlier from time to time.
