Transformers: The Movie

Jon Voight has joined the cast of Michael Bay's big-budget actioner The Transformers: The Movie, according to Variety. The DreamWorks/Paramount live-action production starts lensing later this month, with release scheduled for July 4, 2007. A source close to the production said Josh Duhamel, Bernie Mac, John Turturro, Megan Fox and John Robinson are expected to round out the cast. Travis Van Winkle and Shia LeBeouf have already been announced.

Budgeted well north of $100 million, "Transformers" is based on the comicbook, cartoon and Hasbro toy line hugely popular in the 1980s. Story centers on the central saga of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons. Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy and Par-based Lorenzo Di Bonaventura are producing the film. Steven Spielberg and Hasbro's Brian Goldner are exec producers. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penned the screenplay.

Fantastic Four 2:

Variety reports that the Silver Surfer is on course to become a linchpin in the sequel Fox is readying for a July 4, 2007 bow. Silver Surfer, who physically resembles the liquid metal villain from "Terminator 2" and soars through the universe on his board, has evolved into one of Marvel's more sophisticated comicbook heroes. A Surfer feature has been in Fox's arsenal for a decade, but the studio waited because project is so ambitiously f/x-heavy and Fox has been busy with other Marvel franchises.

Saw 3:

Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith have some fresh blood joining them in the upcoming third installment in the SAW franchise. Iranian actress Bahar Soomekh (MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE:III) and Angus MacFayden (BRAVEHEART) have signed on to star in SAW III for director Darren Lynn Bousman. Soomekh and MacFayden will play "Lynn" and "Jeff" respectively who go a little something like this: "Lynn is a married mother in her late 30s who is kidnapped by Jigsaw. As you might expect all is not sunny on Lynn's front who's got some dark secrets she's keeping from her family. Then there's Jeff, a dad who has never recovered fully after his son died. It was an accident but he's never been able to forgive himself." The plot for the third film was conceived by original director James Wan with fellow SAW co-creator Leigh Whannell writing the script.

World of Warcraft: The Movie

Hollywood Reporter reports that Blizzard Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures are suiting up for war. The companies are teaming to produce a live-action film based on Blizzard's award-winning 'Warcraft' video games, with Legendary acquiring movie rights to the "Warcraft" universe. The "Warcraft" games debuted in 1994, and the franchise now has four titles in release. "Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness" (1995) won multiple game of the year awards, while "Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos" (2002) broke sales records. The latest game, "World of Warcraft," is one of the most popular multiplayer online role-playing games, with a reported subscription base of more than 6 million. The movie would not follow one of the games but rather be set in the epic fantasy universe, which includes orcs, trolls, elves and the undead.

The pic is obviously of Steve Carrell as Evan Baxter after Morgan Freeman's God assigns him to build an ark à la Noah.
