sickness
The Hobbit:Guillermo del Toro was in London this past weekend promoting new novel The Strain, but while here, he also spilled the beans on his forthcoming adaptation of The Hobbit. Speaking to the BBC, del Toro said that his Gollum will be similar to the Gollum from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. "From a design standpoint it will be the same creature, just a few years younger, but I think that there is never a scene quite like the 'riddles in the dark' in the trilogy. As an introduction to Gollum and a flashpoint to the origin on the character, it is so powerful and primal that it would be different in that way. We are presenting a side of the character that is very strong and beautiful and iconic." Del Toro, whose previous credits include modern horror classics The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth, added that his Hobbit is set to scare. "The intensity of the scenes of The Hobbit will have the intensity that they had in the book when I was a kid reading them. The spiders of Mirkwood are a pretty harrowing experience and facing the great goblin in the caves is quite a thrilling moment. The Battle of the Five Armies, the first encounter with Gollum -- there are scary moments." However, the director pointed out that the scares arise naturally from the text. "They are already there," he explained. "We are not inventing or trying to do horror for horror's sake. We are trying to imbue those moments of intensity in the book into the film." The Hobbit is currently in pre-production, with part one of the two-film feature set to be released in December 2011. The A-Team:Liam Neeson is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to star in its long-gestating bigscreen adaptation of "The A-Team" as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith. Bradley Cooper is in early talks to play Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck in the Joe Carnahan-directed pic based on the 1980s TV series. Production begins in late August for a June 11, 2010, release. Ridley Scott is producing with Jules Daly and series creator Stephen J. Cannell, with Tony Scott exec producing through Scott Free. Carnahan and Brian Bloom polished a script by Skip Woods, whose recent script credits include "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra" and "Wolverine." Neeson is in talks to play Hannibal, the role originated by George Peppard, while Cooper would play "Faceman," the role played by Dirk Benedict. Still to be cast are the roles of Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, played by Dwight Schultz in the original, and Sgt. "B.A." Baracus, the role that made Mr. T an '80s icon. Heavy Metal:James Cameron will co-executive produce and possibly direct a segment of the upcoming "Heavy Metal" anthology movie. Producer Kevin Eastman tells the site that "David Fincher and James Cameron are going to be co-executive producers on the film. Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film." The Jetsons:MTV Movies Blog recently spoke with Robert Rodriguez who revealed that he wants to shoot his live-action adaptation of The Jetsons next year. "I've been developing [The Jetsons] for awhile," Rodriguez said, adding that he's hoping to start shooting "next year." While the director did confirm that the film would be live-action, he was predictably mum about other details. Adam F. Goldberg (Fanboys) penned an early draft of the script, but it has since been reworked. "We're writing the script right now," Rodriguez said excitedly, before declining to drop any hints about the plot or potential casting choices. The Defenders:DreamWorks has purchased the family adventure feature "The Defenders" from "Heroes" actor Masi Oka. The story centers on a group of mostly teenagers from around the world who are involved in a multiplayer video game, each unaware of who they really are behind the cover of their consoles and avatars. They are forced to come together for a real adventure, becoming inadvertent heroes in the process. "Star Trek" and "Transformers" scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce, Gary Whitta will write the script and D.J. Caruso ("Eagle Eye," "The Salton Sea") is in negotiations to direct. Eat, Pray, Love:Javier Bardem is in negotiations to join Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts. The movie, Roberts stars as a married woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after trying to get pregnant and realizing that she’s not living the life she wants. Bardem would play Felipe, the man she meets and falls in love with on the final leg of said journey. Richard Jenkins also stars. Ryan Murphy wrote and will direct the movie, based on the Elizabeth Gilbert memoir. Priest:Cam Gigandet will star opposite Paul Bettany in "Priest," a horror Western that Scott Stewart is directing for Screen Gems. Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic book, "Priest" is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece. That latter part has yet to be cast. Michael De Luca and Stars Road Entertainment's Josh Donen are producing along with Mitchell Peck. sickness
Iron Man 2:http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/1109/rourkeiron.jpg USA Today has debuted the first look at Mickey Rourke as the Iron Man 2 villain Whiplash. Whiplash sports a power pack on his chest that looks similar to the one used by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). “The technologies are definitely related, and that’s part of the core theme of the film,” says director Jon Favreau. Whiplash is the alter ego of Ivan Vanko, a Russian who, Favreau says, “has constructed his own version of a suit.” Among the creative alterations: a pair of whips, powered by the suit’s glowing chest piece, expected to keep Iron Man cracking. Whiplash “is going to light them up,” says Rourke. The pic you see above is described as Whiplash making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. Quote Link to comment

sickness
The Hobbit:Guillermo del Toro appeared as a guest on Simon Mayo's BBC Radio Show yesterday (via TheOneRing.net) and talked a bit about The Hobbit. He did confirm that at least three big actors would return - Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Along with the casting news, del Toro revealed the following nuggets: [The] film will take some liberties with sub-plot material that is briefly discussed in the book. Most notably among this, is Gandalf’s departure from Bilbo and the Dwarves to confer with The White Council in Dol Guldur on dealing with an entity called the Necromancer (which later turns out to be Sauron himself.) We’ve always suspected this based on some statements, but this time, the intention to document Gandalf’s quest (which is not covered greatly in the book) was articulated clearly. Smaug the Dragon, del Toro revealed that after eight whole months of design work, they have only just “cracked the basic engineering.” It is anticipated that another six or seven months of application will be needed before the great flying, fire-breathing, gold smuggler will be in any kind of presentable form. Mission Impossible 4:J.J. Abrams, the man behind “Lost,” “Fringe” and the latest Star Trek smash is reteaming with Tom Cruise to resurrect superspy Ethan Hunt for a fourth installment of the popular franchise. “I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on Mission Impossible 4,” says J.J. Abrams, who directed 2006’s MI: 3, but hasn’t yet committed to directing the fourth. “Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing.” Bond 23:In a press release today producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions Ltd and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures announced that Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) will be the screenwriters of the 23rd James Bond adventure. Daniel Craig, obviously, is set to return as the British super-spy, but a director and date for the start of production is yet to be announced. As for story, last December Craig was asked about the direction the next film would take and if it would serve as a third film in a trilogy that began with Casino Royale. Craig told Collider.com, “We’ve finished this story as far as I’m concerned. We’ve got a great set of bad guys. There is an organization that we can use whenever we want to. The relationship between Bond and M is secure and Felix is secure. Let’s try and find where Moneypenny came from and where Q comes from. Let’s do all that and have some fun with it.” Shutter Island:The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson and Max von Sydow and is based on teh Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. The film tells the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.duction, with part one of the two-film feature set to be released in December 2011. Check out the movie trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUMEUgVBJek Conan (remake):Marcus Nispel has been set by Nu Image/Millennium Films to direct "Conan," ending a nine-year development ordeal to reinvent the Robert E. Howard-created barbarian first immortalized onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982. Production on the remake is set to start late this year in Bulgaria and South Africa. Nu Image/Millennium is making the film in a co-production with Lionsgate. Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta are producing with Fredrick Malmberg. Malmberg runs Paradox, the company that holds the rights to "Conan" and the other hero franchises in the Howard library. The Time Traveler’s Wife:An adaptation of the Audrey Niffenegger novel, the movie stars Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana and follows the ups and downs of their relationship as he struggles with an glitch in his DNA that causes him to jump back and forth in time. http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/1682/thetimetravelerswife.jpg Gulliver's Travels:Chris O'Dowd has been cast in the Fox comedy "Gulliver's Travels." The actor joins Jack Black, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet and Emily Blunt in the big-budget adaptation of the classic Jonathan Swift story. The modern version is about the adventures of travel writer Lemuel Gulliver, who while on a Bermuda Triangle assignment gets sidetracked to the secret island of Lilliput. O'Dowd will play Edward, Black's Lilliputian nemesis. John Carter of Mars:Walt Disney Pictures has set "Wolverine" stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins to star in "John Carter of Mars," a fantasy epic that marks the live action directorial debut of "Wall-E" helmer Andrew Stanton. itsch, a member of the "Friday Night Lights" ensemble who made his screen breakthrough as Gambit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," will play the title character, a damaged Civil War veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars where his involvements with warring raced of the dying planet force him to rediscover his humanity. Collins will play Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars. Collins worked with Kitsch in "Wolverine," playing Hugh Jackman's character's love interest Kayla Silverfox. She also co-stars in the HBO vampire drama "True Blood." Predators (remake):According to reports, Neil Marshall, British helmer of Dog Soldiers, The Descent and Doomsday, is apparently in talks to direct the remake of Predators. Marshall is apparently in negotiations to direct the film, from a script by Robert Rodriguez. There's still no word as to whether Predators will be a sequel, a prequel, or a reboot, but being that Marshall knows a thing or two about horror, expect lots of gore. Beautiful Girl:Screen Gems prevailed in a spec auction for "Beautiful Girl," a scary genre thriller from a most unlikely source: Michael Cunningham, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "The Hours." Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing through their Red Wagon banner. Story concerns a shy but brainy high school girl who returns for senior year after having slimmed down six dress sizes. She finds herself flirting with the handsome English lit teacher, but the mutual crush turns deadly when the teacher's obsession with the student compels him to exact maniacal revenge on everyone who was cruel to her. Something Wicked:Brittany Murphy has joined the psychological thriller "Something Wicked". The story follows a teenager and his girlfriend, who is way out of his league, whose lives are thrown into chaos when her parents are killed. Darin Scott will direct the feature which also stars. Joe Colleran is producing and wrote the script from a story by Joseph Mungra. Deadworld:Dark Hero Studios is planning a zombie feature film franchise adaptation of Gary Reed's comic book "Deadworld". "Deadworld" veers from the popular zombie mythology of depicting an apocalypse in which humans are overrun by flesh-eating corpses. "Deadworld" picks up four months after that event, where the Dead overtake the Earth, with humans few and far between. The protagonist is King Zombie, a Harley-riding corpse who holds a grudge against the survivors who made him an outcast. G.I.
