Thor:

While Marvel Studios has just cast Chris Hemsworth as their hammer-wielding superhero, it seems they've found their villain as well. Marvel Studios announced today that Tom Hiddleston has been cast to play the villain Loki in the studio's highly anticipated movie Thor. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film penned by Mark Protosevich and Ashley Miller & Zak Stentz.

 

The news comes on the heels that Hemsworth, who can be seen in a small role as Captain James T. Kirk's father in Star Trek, was cast as the title character. Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the film. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce the film. The film will be released in the US on May 20, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

 

Loki, according to Marvel, is the son of Laufey, king of the frost giants of Jotunheim, one of the “Nine Worlds” of the Asgardian cosmology. Following Laufey’s death and because Loki was the son of a king fallen in battle, Odin, ruler of Asgard, elected to adopt him and raise him as a son alongside his blood son Thor, the future god of thunder.

Sherlock Holmes:

Guy Ritchie's revival of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Kelly Reilly and Eddie Marsan.

 

Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner Watson (Jude Law) on their latest challenge. Dan Aykroyd says 'Ghostbusters 3' may start filming in winter

 

Dan Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Murray's presence was the pivot point in making a third film happen. He holds a one-fifth controlling interest in the property rights and has been seen as the most reluctant to return to the paranormal comedy. Aykroyd said that is true but that it's more nuanced than the public portrayal of the situation.

 

"I don't put not making the third movie on Billy. We can't do that. I've been very busy. Harold's been busy, Ivan's been busy. And a third script really didn't coalesce properly. And Billy, you can't blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God's sake. Although I'm the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I've never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he's an artist. You can't force somebody into it. I'm sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we're at a point that there's a story that he can accept and that's going to work, and I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter."

 

The script is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing team behind the upcoming Jack Black/Michael Cera movie "Year One" (directed by Ramis), and Aykroyd is enthused about its premise of a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team. Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This." "He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it."

 

Aykroyd says he believes the movie will move forward but that he has also learned that "at any second everything could blow up." The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

Ben Stiller says that it would be set 10 years later with Derek Zoolander dealing with the fact that he is no longer a model, possibly spending his days running a modeling school and taking care of his now 10 or 11 years old son. And Stiller says that a sequel couldn’t be made without Owen Wilson reprising his role as Hansel.

A Very Private Gentleman:

George Clooney has signed on to star in A Very Private Gentleman for director Anton Corbijn who directed 2007’s well received feature Control. The film is based on the Martin Booth novel of the same name and will feature Clooney as an assassin who hides out in an idyllic Italian town before carrying out a final assignment. He resists his usual aversion to human interaction, and his friendships and romantic entanglements complicate his mission.

 

 

 

Footloose (remake):

“Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford has been confirmed as the lead for the upcoming remake Footloose to be directed by Kenny Ortega. The film is a remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon feature in which a family moves to a small midwestern town with strict moral beliefs, such as a ban on rock music and dancing.

 

 

 

Mandrake:

Hayden Christensen and Djimon Hounsou will star in "Mandrake", the adaptation of Lee Falk's comic strip "Mandrake the Magician". In the film, Jackson Mandrake lives life on the edge. Working as an underground magician and escapologist, his act has grown increasingly dangerous.

 

 

 

The Moth Diaries:

"American Psycho" director Mary Harron and produce Edward Pressman are re-teaming for Gothic horror flick "The Moth Diaries". Lily Cole and Scott Speedman star in the story of an elite New England boarding school where a mysterious young girl (Cole) arrives amid a spate of campus deaths. Speedman will play a literature teacher who leads a class on Gothic fiction. The story is based on Rachel Klein’s cult novel.

 

 

 

The Shortcut:

Adam Sandler produced (Scary Madison) horror movie, The Shortcut, which stars Dave Franco, Shannon Woodward, Drew Seeley, Raymond Barry and William B. Davis. The movie centers on two brothers who come upon a rarely used shortcut in their new town -- and soon discover the reasons why it's so rarely used.

 

A shortcut through the woods saved a lot of time getting to school, but no kids growing up in a suburban neighborhood dared to take it. The trail ran within sight of a scary house with an eerie old man who would accost its travelers with an ominous message to stay away. Town legend said he was involved in the disappearances of some kids long ago. Now that some of those same kids are in their late teens, they decide to find out the truth about the old man after they learn he’s still at his game.

Only Professor Kurland, who approaches Quinn to show him pictures of Katie and two other teenagers who went missing at the same time, thinks they're telling the truth. He warns Quinn that bad things happen to youngsters in this town.

 

One day, Megan and her best friend Ruth go to visit Ruth's grandmother. A wolf-like creature attacks them, having already savaged the grandmother. Ruth is torn limb from limb and Megan barely escapes with her life. As mysterious and frightening happenings occur one after the other, Quinn starts to believe there may be sinister forces at work in Marburg, but will he discover who or what is behind it all in time to save his family?

The love triangle begins as the Entertainment Weekly has the first ever images from Summit Entertainment's New Moon, the second film in the Twilight Saga being helmed by Chris Weitz. The second adaptation of the popular Stephenie Meyer series hits theaters November 20.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus:

In the present day, immortal 1,000-year-old Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) leads a travelling theatre troupe that offers audience members a chance to go beyond reality through a magical mirror in his possession. Members of the troupe include a sleight of hand expert, Anton (Andrew Garfield), and a dwarf, Percy (Verne Troyer), Parnassus had been able to guide the imagination of others through a deal with the Devil (Waits), who now comes to collect on the arrangement, targeting the doctor’s daughter (Lily Cole). The troupe, which is joined by a mysterious outsider named Tony (portrayed by Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell), embark through parallel worlds to rescue the girl.

Toy Story 3:

Pixar Collector is reporting the character you see is named Lotso and apparently he will be featured in Toy Story 3 due in theaters on June 18, 2010. This isn’t the first time this character has been mentioned, as his existence was first brought up by Jonas Rivera, the producer of next week’s new Pixar film Up, told MTV you could watch the teaser trailer for Up and “under her bed is one of the new stars of Toy Story 3.” As you can see in the image below, Lotso is featured in the lower left corner of a room filled with Pixar memorabilia.

Paramount Pictures has released the first photos from M Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender in Friday’s issue of USA Today. The Losers:

Spanish actor Oscar Jaenada ("The Limits of Control") is set to play Cougar in the film adaptation of the comic book series "The Losers" for Warner Bros. Pictures. The story follows a band of black ops commandos who are set up to be killed by their own government. They barely survive and set out to get even. Jaenada joins Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, Columbus Short, Jason Patric and Zoe Saldana. Sylvain White is directing.

 

 

 

The Zookeeper:

Rosario Dawson and Leslie Bibb have joined the romantic comedy "The Zookeeper" for Happy Madison. The film centers on zoo animals trying to teach the keeper (Kevin James) their methods of dating and mating to help him win back the woman of his dreams. Frank Coraci is directing from a screenplay by Jay Scherick and David Ronn, Kevin James, Rock Reuben and Nick Bakay. Filming kicks off late summer in Boston for a July 2010 release.

 

 

 

Bazooka Joe:

Mark Hammer has signed on to pen "Bazooka Joe", a feature film adaptation of the bubble gum comic strip for Tornante Co. Joe, who wears an eye patch for reasons never explained, has child-friendly misadventures, sometime joined by various friends like Pesty, Mort, Toughie, Hungry Herman, love interest Jane and a dog named Walkie Talkie. Bazooka, the gum and the comic, are part of trading card company Topps' stable which Torrante's Michael Eisner purchased in 2007.

 

 

 

The Roommate:

Frances Fisher (In the Valley of Elah) has signed on for The Roommate, portraying Leighton Meester’s mother. Lensing on the pic, written by Sonny Mallhi, has already begun in Los Angeles under helmer Christian Christiansen. She joins the previously cast Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet, Minka Kelly, Aly Michalka and Matt Lanter that centers on Sara, a college student randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. They start off as friends but things turn deadly as Rebecca begins to target people in Sara's life.

 

 

 

Imago Mortis:

It comes from the producers of Pan’s Labyrinth and The Orphanage and the script writer of [REC], Bessoni’s film follows a college student who stumbles across a secret society obsessed with capturing images of death through the eyes of the dying - and isn’t afraid to k*ll to get them.

 

 

 

Surrogates:

Disney has debuted the first official trailer for the new Bruce Willis sci-fi thriller Surrogates. Directed by former Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow, the movie is about a future where humans interact using surrogate robots while staying in the comfort of their homes.

A while back Joss Whedon ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer") put together a script for a live-action "Wonder Woman" film, but was quickly shown the door without much of an explanation. Then, it was revealed that Joel Silver has recently brought on executive Andrew Roma to bring the Amazonian princess to the big screen. Warner Bros, meanwhile, started looking for new writers and have been taking pitches. Now, they have learned that WB and Silver are in a hurry to find a director and are working together to attach elements to the film in order to get it up and going quickly.

 

there's an animated movie... its quite good... if youre itching for wonderwoman, this should whet your appetite... and it aint for kids... its violent (there are beheadings!)

Iron Man 2:

Empire Online recently swung by the set of the "Iron Man" sequel and briefly chatted with director Jon Favreau and actor Mickey Rouke.

 

Shooting is currently at the halfway point and Favreau hints that the Jim Rhodes (Don Cheadle) character could be decked out as War Machine sooner than you may think - "Rhodesy is definitely stepping up in this film. Let me put it this way: Tony's not the only person with technology in the film."

 

Rourke is enjoying the work but admits it can be tough - "It's been really brutal, because my Iron Man suit weighs 23lb. It's sort of a half-suit, with half my skin showing, with lots of Russian tattoos, because [Whiplash is just] out of a Russian-zone prison."

Avatar:

MarketSaw have posted (and confirmed with Fox) new official concept art pieces from James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi epic "Avatar". The bits of art involve a powersuit used by Sam Worthington's character in the film from the looks of it, and a scene involving the Na'vi alien race native to the planet. They are from "The Art of Avatar" book due out on shelves in December. As these are concept art sketches though, the final design will likely differ.

 

Avatar is set for release on December 18 from Fox and tells the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced their release plans for the long awaited 3-D motion capture feature film "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Kathleen Kennedy. The highly anticipated film will be released by Paramount in the U.S. on December 23, 2011.

 

Starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace) as the nefarious Red Rackham, the international cast also includes Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.

 

 

 

Toy Story 3:

A new teaser trailer for next year's "Toy Story 3" is attached to all digital 2D & 3D screenings of Disney Pixar's "Up". The teaser contains no actual footage from the film, mainly just an assembly of all the characters trying to build the logo.

Tomb Raider (remake):

Back in January it was announced that Dan Lin would be producing a reboot of the Tomb Raider movie franchise for Warner Bros. The producer has now revealed more on the film to about.com and given up some interesting info about the project.

 

"We're rebooting Lara Croft, it's a great origin story we're going to tell, very character orientated," Lin told the site before claiming the movie would be more "realistic" than previous Angelina Jolie-starring Tomb Raider entries.

 

He refused to give up any casting gossip, but did confirm that it would be a younger Lara. It was rumoured (then subsequently denied) earlier in the year that Megan Fox would play the trigger happy archaeologist.

 

 

 

Ghostbusters 3:

The Guardian sat down with Dan Aykroyd, who dished more on Ghostbusters 3, currently being developed at Columbia Pictures. Here's what he had to say:

 

"A period piece, it takes place two years after the events of the second movie and sees Manhattan once again under threat. It's closer in scale to Aykroyd's original vision but in canon terms, it's the next chapter of the story.

 

And now for the supernatural bit: after coming together for the game, all the players have stated their intentions to go back, and a script is being written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, writers on the US Office.

 

According to reports the original cast will act as mentors, handing the company over to a new generation, likely to be from the Seth Rogen and Steve Carell class of actors who are filling up just the same space in Hollywood as Aykroyd and Murray once did. "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her," says Aykroyd. "There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension."

USA Today has new images from Denzel's new post apocalyptic movie Book of Eli. The new movie by The Hughes Brothers stars Denzel Washington as a man wandering around a post-apocalyptic wasteland with a book that could hold the key to man's salvation.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (remake):

Vertigo Entertainment is teaming with Fran Rubel Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui, the rights-holders of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to reboot the franchise for the big screen. Sadly, it looks as though Joss Whedon will NOT be involved. Whedon wrote the original 1992 movie starring Kristy Swanson and was the brains behind the long-running TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.

 

 

 

Halloween II:

Dimension Films gave YouTube a brand new behind-the-scenes video from H2, which features not only new interviews with Rob Zombie and crew, but also your look at some unseen footage from the sequel arriving in theaters August 28.

 

 

 

 

Alien (prequel):

Website Collider confirmed today with Tony Scott our exclusive breaking news that Carl Rinsch will be getting behind the camera for 20th Century Fox's reboot of the Alien franchise started back in '79 by Ridley Scott. It was also confirmed that the reboot is being pinned as a "prequel". In the original, the terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, Aliens.

Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige went on record this week at an Iron Man 2 set visit being held in Downey, California, about the future of all upcoming Marvel movie adaptations. He talked extensively about The Avengers, Thor, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and The First Avenger: Captain America. The biggest news is that The Incredible Hulk will be making his next appearance in The Avengers movie, which has a tentative release date of May 4th, 2012.

 

Feige stated, "It will have been four years since he was in a movie by that point. By 2012. I'd like to see him in it. I'm not being coy. We're just starting the story. I was on the phone with Zak Penn this morning. He's coming in next week and he's going to work on the outline this summer. It's so intertwined with what we're doing before it. I almost wanted to get done with production on Iron Man 2, and the scripts to Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America well underway, before we even started The Avengers."

 

Neither this, nor the two previous Hulk films rule out the possibility of a third stand-alone film for the mighty green giant. Feige continued, telling his enraptured audience, "Now at least we can talk about Hulk being onscreen and Hulk being in a movie. I think we can go to something that isn't a surreal experience and is more a Marvel movie experience. It can tie into and be a part of this Marvel Cinema Universe that I've talked about."

 

Feige also gave his thoughts on Ant-Man, saying, "I want to make Ant-Man one of these days. I think that'll be surprising and funny. I love Edgar Wright. What he likes about it is that when he says he's doing Ant-Man, people go, 'Ant-Man? What the hell is that?' I think that's funny." Doctor Strange was also a point of discussion, "I think Doctor Strange would kick ass. I think we've done very well at this street level superhero aspect of the Marvel Universe. I think with Thor, you'll see us cracking into the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe in a very good way that's never been done before in our movies. I'd love to get into that supernatural element. I think that Doctor Strange could be a good lynchpin into that universe with 'Werewolf By Night'. Maybe with Blade again someday. I would like to see that side of the Marvel Universe on screen."

 

Kevin also discussed the casting status as far as The First Avenger: Captain America goes, "There are only a handful of stars that mean anything here, much less overseas. I do think that will be a factor in it. As long as we have the freedom to cast the best actor for the part. Whether it's an actor who's been a great actor, but hasn't starred in marquee action movies before like Robert Downey, or somebody that came out of Australia that we've never heard of." Kevin then went on to mention Will Smith, relating how much he loves the "Truth" storyline, which introduced a black Captain America that pre-dates Steve Rogers, "I love the 'Truth' storyline. I think that's very cool. I wouldn't do that as a first Captain America movie though. I think that arc came about four or five hundred issues into the "Cap" run. I don't see us launching with that particular comic."

 

Finally, Kevin ended with a tease of the The Avengers movie, hinting, "I think The Avengers is going to have it's own vibe. It'll have a different tone than the other Marvel movies. It is about saving the world, because there's no other reason for characters that powerful to band together. I think the scope and the scale will feel like a much bigger thing. Like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Whatever you had seen, whether Starscream was your favorite character or Megatron is your favorite character or Soundwave is your favorite character, you're going to see the experience of that epic thing coming together. I think it'll be the same thing with The Avengers."

 

Iron Man 2 is being directed by Jon Favreau and will once again star Robert Downey, Jr. The film opens May 7th, 2010.

The Karate Kid (remake)

MTV is reporting Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has signed on to star as the mother to Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith in the upcoming remake The Karate Kid. ”

 

Word around the campfire is Jaden’s character will not be named Daniel as it was when played by Ralph Macchio in the earlier films, but his name will be Dre. Mr. Miyagi will be known as Mr. Han and if you remember the evil sensei played by Martin Kove known as John Kreese, his new name is Li Quan Ha.

 

The story itself is very much the same as the original outside of names and locations. Henson’s character will be named Sherry, and things kick off as she is transferred to China where she will move with her young son Dre. Dre then gets in fights with bullies, meets Mr. Han, starts waxing on and off and then wins the battle in the end.

 

Sony Pictures will release The Karate Kid on June 11, 2010.

 

 

 

Unstoppable:

Chris Pine is in negotiations to join Denzel Washington in Unstoppable to be directed by Tony Scott. In the movie, an experienced train engineer who is about to be laid off (Washington) must team with the newbie conductor who is hired to replace him (Pine) to stop a runaway train that is carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. Mark Bomback wrote the script.

 

 

 

Jonah Hex:

The first photos of Josh Brolin in costume as Jonah Hex have found their way online. The movie stars Brolin as the title character, a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter who is known for having the right side of his face disfigured and for wearing a Confederate army uniform. The character first appeared in the early 1970s and graduated to his own series in 1977 that ran for about 10 years. A new series was launched in 2005.

Clash of the Titans (remake):

Check out the publicity shots of Sam Worthington as Perseus from the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans. The movie stars Worthington as Perseus, born of a god but raised as a man and helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on Earth. Louis Leterrier is directing the movie for Warner Bros.

Short Circuit (remake):

Dan Milano ("Greg the Bunny," "Robot Chicken") is set to script a remake of the 1986 family classic "Short Circuit" for Dimension Films. The original followed an armed robot that acquired a personality after a lightning strike, and sought the help of humans to prevent its destruction by its makers in the military. Milano plans to contemporize the story and bring a subversive edge to the original film scripted by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock. David Foster, Ryan E. Heppe and John Hyde will produce.

 

 

 

Total Recall (remake):

Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium," "Ultraviolet") will pen the upcoming remake of 1990 sci-fi classic "Total Recall" for Sony Pictures. The film will be a contemporized adaptation of the sci-fi saga based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale." The original Paul Verhoeven film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin. Neal Moritz is set to produce through his Original Films.

 

 

 

Scream 4:

The Arquettes are in negotiations to return to the Scream trilogy. Writer Kevin Williamson -- who is re-launching the knowing horror franchise as a new trilogy -- has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return to the series.

 

 

 

The Final Destination 3D:

The movie, the fourth in the series, follows the same basic story with the main character spending a day at the races and having a dream about an impending crash that causes multiple deaths. He wakes up, gets his ass the hell out and manages to survive the real deal only find himself being stalked by death. From there, he must figure out how to cheat death before he reaches his “final destination”.

The Hobbit:

Guillermo del Toro was in London this past weekend promoting new novel The Strain, but while here, he also spilled the beans on his forthcoming adaptation of The Hobbit.

 

Speaking to the BBC, del Toro said that his Gollum will be similar to the Gollum from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. "From a design standpoint it will be the same creature, just a few years younger, but I think that there is never a scene quite like the 'riddles in the dark' in the trilogy. As an introduction to Gollum and a flashpoint to the origin on the character, it is so powerful and primal that it would be different in that way. We are presenting a side of the character that is very strong and beautiful and iconic."

 

Del Toro, whose previous credits include modern horror classics The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth, added that his Hobbit is set to scare.

 

"The intensity of the scenes of The Hobbit will have the intensity that they had in the book when I was a kid reading them. The spiders of Mirkwood are a pretty harrowing experience and facing the great goblin in the caves is quite a thrilling moment. The Battle of the Five Armies, the first encounter with Gollum -- there are scary moments."

 

However, the director pointed out that the scares arise naturally from the text. "They are already there," he explained. "We are not inventing or trying to do horror for horror's sake. We are trying to imbue those moments of intensity in the book into the film."

 

The Hobbit is currently in pre-production, with part one of the two-film feature set to be released in December 2011.

 

 

 

The A-Team:

Liam Neeson is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to star in its long-gestating bigscreen adaptation of "The A-Team" as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith. Bradley Cooper is in early talks to play Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck in the Joe Carnahan-directed pic based on the 1980s TV series. Production begins in late August for a June 11, 2010, release.

 

Ridley Scott is producing with Jules Daly and series creator Stephen J. Cannell, with Tony Scott exec producing through Scott Free. Carnahan and Brian Bloom polished a script by Skip Woods, whose recent script credits include "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra" and "Wolverine."

 

Neeson is in talks to play Hannibal, the role originated by George Peppard, while Cooper would play "Faceman," the role played by Dirk Benedict. Still to be cast are the roles of Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, played by Dwight Schultz in the original, and Sgt. "B.A." Baracus, the role that made Mr. T an '80s icon.

 

 

 

Heavy Metal:

James Cameron will co-executive produce and possibly direct a segment of the upcoming "Heavy Metal" anthology movie. Producer Kevin Eastman tells the site that "David Fincher and James Cameron are going to be co-executive producers on the film. Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film."

 

 

 

The Jetsons:

MTV Movies Blog recently spoke with Robert Rodriguez who revealed that he wants to shoot his live-action adaptation of The Jetsons next year.

 

"I've been developing [The Jetsons] for awhile," Rodriguez said, adding that he's hoping to start shooting "next year."

 

While the director did confirm that the film would be live-action, he was predictably mum about other details. Adam F. Goldberg (Fanboys) penned an early draft of the script, but it has since been reworked.

 

"We're writing the script right now," Rodriguez said excitedly, before declining to drop any hints about the plot or potential casting choices.

 

 

 

 

The Defenders:

DreamWorks has purchased the family adventure feature "The Defenders" from "Heroes" actor Masi Oka. The story centers on a group of mostly teenagers from around the world who are involved in a multiplayer video game, each unaware of who they really are behind the cover of their consoles and avatars. They are forced to come together for a real adventure, becoming inadvertent heroes in the process. "Star Trek" and "Transformers" scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce, Gary Whitta will write the script and D.J. Caruso ("Eagle Eye," "The Salton Sea") is in negotiations to direct.

 

 

 

Eat, Pray, Love:

Javier Bardem is in negotiations to join Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts. The movie, Roberts stars as a married woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after trying to get pregnant and realizing that she’s not living the life she wants. Bardem would play Felipe, the man she meets and falls in love with on the final leg of said journey. Richard Jenkins also stars. Ryan Murphy wrote and will direct the movie, based on the Elizabeth Gilbert memoir.

 

 

 

Priest:

Cam Gigandet will star opposite Paul Bettany in "Priest," a horror Western that Scott Stewart is directing for Screen Gems. Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic book, "Priest" is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece. That latter part has yet to be cast. Michael De Luca and Stars Road Entertainment's Josh Donen are producing along with Mitchell Peck.

USA Today has debuted the first look at Mickey Rourke as the Iron Man 2 villain Whiplash. Whiplash sports a power pack on his chest that looks similar to the one used by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). “The technologies are definitely related, and that’s part of the core theme of the film,” says director Jon Favreau.

 

Whiplash is the alter ego of Ivan Vanko, a Russian who, Favreau says, “has constructed his own version of a suit.” Among the creative alterations: a pair of whips, powered by the suit’s glowing chest piece, expected to keep Iron Man cracking. Whiplash “is going to light them up,” says Rourke.

 

The pic you see above is described as Whiplash making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
