From yahoo news-Ryan Fleming – Fri Oct 8, 7:17 pm ET

The title of the upcoming third movie in the Transformers franchise has been revealed, and unofficially confirmed by the folks at Collider. Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon will mark the third and final piece of the Transformers trilogy that very few realized was a trilogy until now.

Collider also confirmed a few pieces of info from the upcoming movie. The main villain will be Shockwave, there will be something that involves the space race between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., and the film will try to stay away from the humor and put forth a more interesting and compelling story- so in other words, more of the Transformers mythos and less of giant robots with clanging steel testicles fighting a pair of unintentionally racist robots, perhaps. The planet sized transformer Unicron has also been rumored to play a part in the film, and as the name suggests, much of the action will take place on the moon.

While many people (myself included) found the second movie to be chock full of fail, the series still managed to pull in massive box office numbers, somewhere in the neighborhood of $830 million worldwide, thus guaranteeing a sequel. The cast and the crew are all returning along with Bay, with the notable exception of the stunningly attractive Megan Fox, who quit. She will be replaced by the equally attractive Victoria’s Secret model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who plays Carly, a character taken from the original animated series who will act as Shia LaBeouf’s love interest.

“This one really builds to a final crescendo. It’s not three multiple endings.” Bay said in an interview with USA Today, “As a trilogy, it really ends. It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending.

Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon will be filmed in 3D, and is scheduled to bring more ’splosions directly to your brain on July 1, 2011.
