Igniz
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Back in July, it was hinted that Chicago helmer Rob Marshall might be directing the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but we haven’t heard anything since… until now. At a DGA screening of Nine, Marshall confirmed that he would be helming the Disney sequel. When asked what he would be doing next, Marshall responded “ya’know, it’s something that I was offered and never in the world thought I would do but then I was like ‘why not?’… I’m doing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean….” According to the AICN report, Marshall also mentioned that he had met with Johnny Depp, and that they are both excited to work together. The fourth film will be based on Tim Powers’ pirate novel On Stranger Tides which was optioned by Disney years ago. The novel tells the story of Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth. Here’s the plot of the novel: Puppeteer John Chandagnac, bound for Jamaica to recover stolen money from his uncle, becomes Jack Shandy after pirates attack his ship and force him to join their crew. Shandy’s struggle to accept his new life grounds the story for readers, even as Blackbeard and vodun magicians whisk everyone away to dreamlike lands where the Fountain of Youth itself awaits. The chaotic sea battles sing, though at times key events happen so quickly that they get lost in the shuffle as Jack tries to comprehend where he’s going and what’s at stake. JRR Tolkien's The HobbitBrian Cox is rumored to be a major contender to play a dwarf in Guillermo del Toro's big screen version of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit. The story says that the producers are currently casting these roles and that Cox is at the top of the list. There is no other information aside from that. Based on JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit, is the story of Bilbo Baggins, who is seen in Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit follows Bilbo as he first encounters Gandalf. He is somewhat unwillingly swept off on an adventure to the lonely mountain to rid it of the dragon, Smaug. The dragon is guarding a treasure of enormous value that he had firstly taken from the dwarves who once lived there. A major battle shortly, ensues. The Hobbit is slated to be released in November 2011. Thor:Variety reports that Marvel Studios and Thor director Kenneth Branagh have signed Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano to play The Warriors Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god. They join a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard. Filming is set to start in January for a May 20, 2011 release. Edited November 17, 2009 by Igniz Quote Link to comment
Igniz
Thor:Idris Elba has joined the cast of "Thor," Marvel Studios' film centering on the Norse god of thunder. Kenneth Branagh is directing the adaptation of the Marvel comic. Chris Hemsworth will star as Thor; Tom Hiddleston will play Loki, and Natalie Portman is the love interest Jane Foster. Elba will play Heimdall; as the guardian of Asgard, he stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from intruders. Shooting is due to begin in mid-January in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Elba, repped by ICM and Ken McReddie Associates in London, most recently appeared in Screen Gems' "Obsessed" opposite Beyonce Knowles. He next appears in Screen Gems' heist thriller "Taken" and will have a turn in Dark Castle's DC Comics adaptation "The Losers." http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/8894/capture214200974012pm31.jpg While Kenneth Branagh's upcoming superhero tale already has a huge cast in place, it seems another new actress has been cast as well. MTV Splash Page recently spoke with Thor star Natalie Portman, who was promoting her new film Brothers, and she revealed that Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) has a role in Thor as well. "Well I'm really excited," Portman told MTV News. "Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she's a good friend and an amazing actress, so I'm looking forward to that." Though she didn't reveal who the latter would play. However, there seems to be plenty of speculation that Dennings, who most recently starred as Norah in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, could be taking on the role of Enchantress, an inhabitant of Asgard known for her magical powers and mind control capabilities. http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/6848/katthor.jpg Quote Link to comment
