Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

The first couple of official images of Jake Gyllenhaal in the 2010 videogame adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time showed up online.

 

The film is set for release on May 28, 2010 and is based on the video game - set in medieval Persia, Earth’s mightiest and most mysterious kingdom, where a king and his son defeat the powerful Maharajah and kidnap his daughter, looting his palace of priceless treasure, including an extravagant hourglass, and a mysterious dagger.

The Twilight Saga's New Moon:

Acclaimed actress Dakota Fanning has officially joined the cast and will play the Volturi Jane in the Twilight Saga New Moon. The rumor was online since a long, but nice to have an official confirmation from Summit Entertainment.

 

In the universe of Twilight, the Volturi are like law enforcers among the Vampires: they are much respected, end even feared because of their mind control tricks

 

So Dakota Fanning will play the role of Jane, one of the prize members of the Volturi Guard and one of their highest ranking guards, a sadistic person and a pet of Aro a former Volturi leader. She seems rather bitter and easily justifies inflicting pain on anyone with her power. Jane has a twin brother named Alec and they both reside in Volterra, Italy.

 

 

 

Robin Hood:

Scott Grimes (TV's "ER"), Kevin Durand (TV's "Lost," "Stargate: SG-1") and Alan Doyle (lead singer of Canadian folk-rock band Great Big Sea) have been cast as various members of Robin Hood's Merry Men in Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. Penned by Brian Helgeland ("LA Confidential," "A Knight's Tale"), the story is being billed as a retelling of the origins of the key characters of the Robin Hood legend. Cate Blanchett is already on board as Maid Marian. Grimes has been cast in the role of Will Scarlet, a skilled swordsman and Hood's nephew. Durand is playing Little John, Hood's right-hand man. Doyle is playing Alan a Dayle, who in lore was a roving minstrel and needed help when his love was being forced to marry another man.

 

 

 

A Perfect Getaway:

Director David Twohy has taken to his blog to update fans on his upcoming thriller A Perfect Getaway. The movie was originally scheduled for release this past weekend through MGM — but will now be released by Universal Pictures, possibly sometime in August. The movie (also written by Twohy) stars Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich as a couple honeymooning in Hawaii who find themselves victimized by a pair of killers, played by Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez.

 

 

 

The Cabin in the Woods:

Camp counselors Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard have recruited Kristen Connolly ("Revolutionary Road", "The Happening"), Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek"), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("The Village") and Jesse Williams ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2") for their fun little jaunt out to "The Cabin in the Woods." The United Artists horror film had already bagged Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor") and Bradley Whitford ("Bottle Shock"). The genre-tweaking screenplay was written by Whedon, who is producing, and Goddard, who is directing. The plot and character descriptions have been withheld by the filmmakers and the studio.

 

 

 

The Roommate:

Leighton Meester, one of the stars of "Gossip Girl," is getting ready for some late-night whispering sessions on the big screen. The actress is in negotiations to star in the Sony Screen Gems thriller "The Roommate." Christian E. Christiansen is directing, and Roy Lee and Doug Davison's Vertigo Entertainment is producing. The story follows Sara (Meester), a college student who is randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. Things turn deadly when Rebecca becomes obsessed and begins targeting people in Sara's life.

Iron Man 2:

According to Nikki Finke (Hollywood Daily), Mickey Rourke is pretty much a lock to play the villain in director Jon Favreau’s upcoming Iron Man 2. The news was rumored a couple of months ago, but word was that Marvel offered Rourke a mere $250,000 for his participation in the sequel. But, Finke is reporting that negotiations have resulted in a much higher payday for the Oscar-nominated actor.

 

In addition to Rourke, Scarlett Johannson has reportedly also joined the cast, playing Black Widow. Emily Blunt was originally attached to the role but was forced to back out to make Gulliver’s Travels for Fox. Johansson’s deal could also see her return for potential sequels and spin-offs, including Marvel’s planned Avengers movie.

 

 

 

Thor:

According to rumors, Josh Hartnett is on the “short list” to play the villain Loki in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Thor based on the Marvel Comics character.

 

In the comics, Loki is Thor’s adopted brother. Because of his smaller stature, he grows up to be jealous of the attention given to Thor. Loki develops an interest in sorcery and uses this skill in his pursuit of power, becoming known as the “God of Lies and Mischief” and later the “God of Evil”. The character made his first official Marvel appearance in Journey into Mystery #85 in October 1962.

 

 

 

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

Check out the image that appeared on The Daily Mirror where it shows the first look at Daniel Radcliffe in a forest scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It is the seventh and final of the Harry Potter series, the film as you may know is split in two parts.

The Twilight Saga's Eclipse:

Summit Entertainment has tapped Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona to direct "Eclipse," the third pic in the "Twilight" vampire series. Summit, which had no comment Wednesday, is expected to make the official announcement soon. The minimajor recently gave "Eclipse" a release date of June 30, 2010.

 

Bayona's a protege of Guillermo Del Toro. He directed the Spanish-language horror-thriller "The Orphanage," which was exec produced by Del Toro, and is attached to helm the Universal thriller "Hater," with Del Toro and Mark Johnson producing. Summit's opted for a different director on each "Twilight" pic. Chris Weitz replaced "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke on "New Moon." Production's due to start shortly on "New Moon" with the key thesps -- Robert Pattinson as Edward, Kristen Stewart as Bella and Taylor Lautner as Jacob -- reprising their roles.

 

"New Moon" is set to open Nov. 20. Melissa Rosenberg, who penned the "Twilight" and "New Moon" scripts, is working on "Eclipse," in which Bella is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob. The four books in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series have sold more than 17 million copies worldwide.

 

 

 

The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break:

The Gotham Group has optioned Mike Jones' screenplay "The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break," based on the novel by Steven Sherrill. Gotham's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein ("The Spiderwick Chronicles") and Lindsay Williams are producing. Live-action project centers on the mythical half-man, half-bull minotaur who was supposedly slain by Theseus 3,000 years ago and now lives a lonely life in a Wichita trailer park, making ends meet as a short-order cook in a rundown diner. Sherrill's book was first published in 2000; "Minotaur" is currently out to directors.

 

 

 

X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes

Spanish helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has made a deal with MGM to develop a film based on director Roger Corman's 1963 pic "X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes," a movie from the Lion's library. The original starred Ray Milland as a scientist who is near a breakthrough in X-ray vision technology when his funding is cut off. Desperate to show results, the doc applies eye drops that eventually cause him to lose control over his growing powers. Mandeville Films partners David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce with Enrique Lopez Lavigne. Lou Arkoff will exec produce.

 

 

 

Drag Me to Hell:

Director Sam Raimi returns to the horror genre with "Drag Me to Hell," an original tale of a young woman's desperate quest to break an evil curse.

 

Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home. Check out the movie trailer...

Blood: The Last Vampire (live-action)

"The Last House on the Left" helmer Dennis Iliadis has signed on to direct the thriller "Cure" for Michael London's Groundswell Prods. Story centers on a young man who sends his wife for an experimental treatment to save her from a terminal illness. Although she returns completely cured, she is suddenly infected with something more terrifying. "Max Payne" scribe Beau Michael Thorne wrote the screenplay. Lensing is skedded to begin in the summer. Vertigo Entertainment's Doug Davison and Roy Lee ("The Strangers") are producing alongside Brian Witten and Michael Connolly.

Marvel Movie Update: New Release Schedule!

Marvel studios strengthens self-produced film release schedule through 2012

 

Get out your calendars Marvelites and get ready to mark them up—with the film release dates associated with the continuous story arc (YES!) on the road to "The Avengers!" Plus, if your Spidey senses are tingling, that's because "Spider-Man 4" now has an official release date!

 

Paving the way for the production and release of "The Avengers," Marvel announced today an adjusted release pipeline for its self-produced feature film properties that reflects the first time individual super hero characters and story arcs will be inter-woven and culminate in a multi-character motion picture.

 

Separately, Marvel Studios confirmed today that Sony Pictures Entertainment will release "Spider-Man 4" on May 6, 2011. Additionally, Marvel Studios has revised the release dates for "Thor" and "The First Avenger: Captain America" as part of its release strategy for an uninterrupted road to "The Avengers" now debuting May 4, 2012.

 

A Marvel character-based film will now launch the summer box office season for three years in a row, from 2010 through 2012.

 

"This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel's movie debut dates, big screen character introductions and momentum. It maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character 'The Avengers' film in 2012," said David Maisel, Chairman, Marvel Studios.

 

Sony Pictures' and Marvel Studios' "Spider-Man 4" is slated for May 6, 2011. To date, all three motion pictures in the phenomenally successful "Spider-Man" franchise have generated nearly $2.5 billion worldwide theatrically.

Clue:

Universal has attached Gore Verbinski to develop "Clue," a live-action murder mystery based on the Hasbro board game that he would direct. Verbinski will produce through his U-based Blind Wink banner, along with Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir, who also have an overall deal at the studio. Verbinski will next direct "Bioshock" for U. "Clue" is one of the few board games to surpass $1 billion in sales, in more than 50 markets. It was developed in England by a retired legal clerk named Anthony Pratt during WWII and released in 1948.

You may recognize Alexander Skarsgård as the 6'4" Nordic vampire Eric Northman on True Blood, or perhaps as Sgt. “Iceman” Colbert from Generation k*ll, or you may just know him as veteran actor Stellan Skarsgård’s son. Now, there’s rumors saying that director Kenneth Branagh is considering him to play the titular gleaming Norse God of Thunder in Marvel’s upcoming film Thor, which will definitely increase that recognition factor.

The Avengers:

"The Avengers" release date was recently pushed back by Marvel from July 15th, 2011 by almost a year to May 4th, 2012. The schedule change gave some room for "Thor" to be squeezed in, but apparently that wasn't the only reason for the move.

 

Reports says that Marvel is having some financing issues, but more importantly, the studio wants "Iron Man" helmer Jon Favreau to direct "The Avengers." Without the date change, it would be impossible for Favreau to finish "Iron Man 2" and still have time to take on the multi-superhero film.

 

This doesn't mean that Favreau has already negotiated a deal, it just means that he if he wants to take on "The Avengers," he will have first dibs. Right now, it looks like Favreau will end up taking the job. He has expressed interest to do so and is already getting ready to go into production on "Iron Man," which is set to hit theaters on May 7th, 2010.

 

 

 

Pirates of the Caribbean 4:

Keira Knightley, who starred in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, said that she won't be returning for the fourth installment, which is bringing back Johnny Depp.

 

"It was a completely fantastic experience, and it was an amazingly large portion of my life, but I don't think I need to go there again," she said. "I think that it's done. But I'm very excited to see the next one. And [Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow] is so wonderful in that character. I think it'll be wonderful."

 

Even before Disney announced the signing of Depp, rumors have been floating around that the studio wouldn't bring back Knightley or Orlando Bloom. Knightley has now confirmed this. At this point, the new film is looking likely to focus on Jack Sparrow and his family.

 

 

 

GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

Wonder Woman:

There was a regime change late last year over at Silver Pictures, Andrew Rona is now the man in charge and will be the man spearheading the live action Wonder Woman project along with mega producer Joel Silver. Sources in the Burbank studios have confirmed there is quite a bit of movement on the WW front. With Green Lantern going into production this year, it looks like Princess Diana may finally get the go ahead from WB. WB and Silver Pictures are in the early stages but they are eager to get started on the movie. WB is looking for new writers on the project and have been taking pitches the last few weeks.

 

Created during World War II, the character was initially depicted fighting the Axis military forces, as well as an assortment of supervillains and supervillainesses. In later decades, some writers and their editors preferred to retain the World War II setting, while others updated the series to reflect an ongoing "present day."

 

 

 

The Goon:

Check out the first look at The Goon based on the Dark Horse Comics title. The animated movie, being produced by David Fincher, was announced at last year’s Comic Con. Created by Eric Powell, the story centers on the title character who, along with his sidekick Franky, battles The Zombie Priest, an undead mobster who is building up an army of zombies, monsters and demons. The comic is currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary on shelves. The movie is being developed by Blur Studios, the company also working on the upcoming Heavy Metal movie.

It (remake):

According to the trades, Warner Bros. is bringing Stephen King's landmark horror novel "It" to the big screen in an adaptation being produced by Lin Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment. Dave Kajganich has been hired pen the script, which follows a group of kids called the Losers Club that encounter a creature called It, which preys on children and whose favorite form is that of a sadistic clown called Pennywise. When the creature resurfaces, the kids are called upon to regroup again, this time as adults, even though they have no memory of the first battle. The novel is set in 1958 and 1985, though the feature version will be set in the present day.

 

 

 

The Strangers 2:

French music vid/commercial director Laurent Briet is in the running to direct a sequel to last year's sleeper hit "The Strangers". Original film writer/director Bryan Bertino penned the script which apparently will take place in a trailer park. Shooting begins this summer. Briet worked on special effects for "The Ring" remake and the short film "Little Minx Exquisite Corpse: Rope a Dope".
