Stuart Beattie ("Collateral") and Sommers will co-adapt the script and Jerry Weintraub ("Ocean's Eleven") is set to produce. Beattie and Sommers do not plan to work from the original 1914 Burroughs tome or any previous film, rather an entirely new approach though details beyond that are being kept under wraps. Guillermo del Toro had been attached to direct a script written by John Collee ("Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World") when the project was announced two years ago. "Tarzan" has been adapted countless times with recent adaptations including 1984's "Greystoke" with Christopher Lambert, a direct-to-video feature in 1998 with Casper Van Dien, Disney's 1999 animated feature, and the short-lived 2003 series with CK model Travis Fimmel. Torso:Se7en director David Fincher's next project will reportedly be the long-in-development adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis graphic novel Torso. Ehren Kruger (The Ring) penned the screenplay adaptation. Paramount Pictures "wants to shoot Torso, a big-budget production that will star Matt Damon as Eliot Ness, early next year in Cleveland. But studio officials say they need incentives to film in the state." Ness, who had previously brought down Chicago ganglord Al Capone, spearheaded the hunt for the serial killer dubbed the Cleveland Torso Murderer from 1935 to 1938. The killer was never captured and Ness' once promising career tragically ended in failure. Responding to Mark's intimations, James floats an idea to seek out "the sicko". Mark knows what he looks like. It can be done. Chasely goes along with it. sickness
Spider-Man 4 and 5:Speculation about who might be replacing Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man's webbed costume can now come to an end. Both Maguire and director Sam Raimi will be returning for Spider-Man 4, and they may be set to return for Spider-Man 5 as well. According to the report, the studio is looking to film both films at the same time both for reasons of cost effectiveness and because "it wasn't so easy to get everybody back together." And just who is 'everybody'? Well, it includes Maguire and Raimi. And it's almost a certainty that Kirsten Dunst will be back as well. According to the report Dunst's Mary Jane Watson will be featured, and Sony would "never recast her." The script for the film was written by Jamie Vanderbilt, and so far the studio is being tight-lipped about the villain and who might play the character. However insiders say that "once you find out who the villain is, you'll know who is playing it." One thing that is certain however is that it won't be a return of Venom. On a similar note, while the symbiotic alien costume won't be appearing in Spider-Man 4, Sony has hired screenwriters to begin work on a spin-off Venom film. No word yet on whether or not Topher Grace would return for the starring role. Soul Men:Two former backup soul singers Louis (Samuel L. Jackson) and Floyd (Bernie Mac) travel cross country to perform at a tribute concert in honor of their famous former band leader. They haven't spoken to each other in 20 years but reluctantly agree to travel together for the tribute performance. Both Jackson and Mac will do their own musical and dance performing in the film. Yes Man:Jim Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a man who signs up for a self-help program based on one simple principle: say yes to everything...and anything. At first, unleashing the power of “yes” transforms Carl’s life in amazing and unexpected ways, but he soon discovers that opening up his life to endless possibilities can have its drawbacks. Let the Right One In:A fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy’s wish for a friend seems to comes true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him. But Eli’s arrival coincides with a series of gruesome deaths and attacks. Though Oskar realizes that she's a vampire, his friendship with her is stronger than his fear... Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a disturbing, darkly atmospheric, yet unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence. sickness
G.I. Joe:MTV Blogs has an interview with G.I. Joe Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's take on Cobra Commander. “As we see it, he’s a very twisted character,” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura exclaimed to MTV News, telling us the key to Cobra Commander lies in his gritty past…and that we’ll see every grimy piece of it. “As the backstory evolves, you discover why his personality [is like that].” While stopping short of drawing parallels between Gordon-Levitt’s PG-13 villain and that of Heath Ledger’s terrifying Joker, di Bonaventura does find one noteworthy comparison. “I thought what was great in ‘The Dark Knight’ was that Heath kept telling you different stories [about his past] so you never knew what it was, and they were all spooky and crazy. [in our film] you get to see it, and you get to understand what’s happened to this guy.” Inside Man 2:A sequel to Spike Lee's "Inside Man" is moving forward at Universal, with Terry George in negotiations to write the screenplay and Lee coming back to direct the Brian Grazer-produced pic. "Inside Man 2," as the project is tentatively being called, will pick up on the characters and dynamic but not the storyline of the original. The first "Inside Man," which was penned by Russell Gewirtz, centered on a standoff between a bank robber (Clive Owens) and a hostage negotiator (Denzel Washington) at a New York bank. Lee says he foresees that the new film will continue the relationship between the two main characters but in a new high-tension situation. "I want the script to be even better than Russell's, and Russell wrote a really good script," he said. Grazer will produce "Inside Man 2" via his Imagine Entertainment banner, with Lee and Daniel Rosenberg exec producing. Denzel Washington and Clive Owen are interested in re-teaming for the project, Lee said. Gatchaman:The official site has released a 10 second movie clip which is the last shot of the trailer for GATCHAMAN! The film is set to be released sometime in 2009. The original Gatchaman story revolves around five young superhero ninjas engaged by the International Science Organization to oppose a group of technologically advanced villains, known as Galactor, from trying to take control of the Earth's natural resources. To do so, the ninjas battle various giant monsters deployed by Galactor to capture rare resources. Quote Link to comment

Batman 3:Casting rumors for the next Christopher Nolan-directed Batman have run rampant ever since The Dark Knight opened, with one of the most persistent being Johnny Depp as the Riddler. Michael Caine spoke to MTV recently, where he confirmed the rumor. Even with Depp recently being non-committal about the role, Caine still says that Depp is a lock for the Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman will be the Penguin. Caine said:When Christopher [Nolan] said we were going to do The Dark Knight next, I didn't what that meant in Batman terms. I said, 'What's the story?' and he said The Joker. I said, 'Oh, s-t! How are you going to top Jack [Nicholson]?' He said, 'Well, I've cast Heath Ledger. And I went 'Ha! I couldn't top Jack, but if anyone could, maybe Heath could.' And he did. I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, 'Are we going to make another one?' They said yeah. I said, 'How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says 'I'll tell you how you top Heath - Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.' I said, 'S-t, they've done it again!'" [Laughs] The Last Pharaoh:Will Smith may next morph into a god. "Braveheart" scribe Randall Wallace will write "The Last Pharaoh," a Columbia drama crafted as a vehicle for Smith to play Taharqa, the pharaoh who battled Assyrian invaders in ancient Egypt. Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz will produce for Overbrook Entertainment. Smith, who has long wanted to play the pharaoh, brought Wallace the Taharqa story. The film will focus on his battles with Assyrian leader Esarhaddon starting in 677 B.C. Fake Identity:Val Kilmer has taken the lead role in the crime thriller "Fake Identity" for Nu Image/Millennium Films. The story centers on an American doctor working in Chechnya whose life takes a deadly turn when he helps a mysterious woman escape from her would-be assailant. "Invisible" revolves around a young woman who has retreated from the world and is consumed by numbers and math. Things begin to change when she becomes a second-grade math teacher. Marilyn Agrelo ("Mad Hot Ballroom") helms the film, based on Aimee Bender's novel, starting next month. Pam Falk and Mike Ellis (The Wedding Planner) adapted the script. Bat Out of Hell:As a red eye flight from Los Angeles to New York takes off, everything seems to be normal. That is until the co-pilot kills the pilot and a rouge group of coach passengers head into first class armed and ready to k*ll. Their claim - there are 9 passengers in the front of the plane who must die tonight. They are vampires, and our "heroes" will crash the plane if they have to in order to ensure what must be done is done. Not willing to die without fighting, the vampires unleash their fury in a battle of strength and wits six miles high, and all before the sun rises on an unknowing New York City. Body in a Dumpster:Midwestern life comes to a halt when a young girl is found brutally murdered in a dumpster behind a small-town diner. There's something not quite right about the deserted church on the edge of town. Evil Dead: the MusicalProducer Don Carmody is in negotiations with Sam Raimi to adapt stage play "Evil Dead: the Musical" into a 3D movie. Conceived by George Reinblatt, Christopher Bond, Frank Cipolla and Melissa Morris, the camp stage interpretation of Raimi's cult classic horror trilogy was originally mounted in Toronto and Montreal and has since gone off-Broadway. Bond and choreographer Hinton Battle will co-direct the 3D film version which they hope to shoot in Toronto next Spring with some of the original cast. Pontypool:What begins as another boring day on the air for shock jock Grant Mazzy quickly turns deadly when reports start piling in of people developing strange speech patterns and evoking horrendous acts of violence. But there’s nothing coming in on the news wires. Is this really happening? Before long, Grant and his small staff find themselves trapped in the radio station as they discover that this insane behavior taking over the town is actually a deadly virus being spread through the English language itself. [Laughs] The Stone Report has just gotten word from Philip Seymour Hoffman that he hasn't been officially cast in the potential upcoming The Dark Knight sequel, nor has he even been offered the role. Rumor has the acclaimed actor playing The Penguin in the next Batman film. Hoffman stated, "Some friend of mine told me he read that. First I heard of it." Phillip said that no one from Warner Brothers has given him a call as of yet, continuing with, "I grew up a comic book fan, so I love that stuff. I love going to that stuff. I think what they're doing with that whole Batman story is really true to what that whole Batman thing has always been. It's one of the darkest origins of a superhero, to get all nerdy and geeky on you. That character sees his parents gunned down as a young child: I remember when I was a kid reading that story, so seeing it now come to life as the dark tale that it really is as an intense, really dark, very visceral, adult tale that they're doing now, all the great work people are doing on it, of course I wouldn't say, 'Well, no, no no.' But I don't know the reality of it, so I wouldn't say 'yes' to you." sickness
Transformers: Revenge of the FallenAccording to tf2005.com, "The character of Devastator will appear in the upcoming "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". - Seven construction vehicles merge to form Devastator- Devastator has lots of upper body strength, like a gorilla- Not just green, some of the vehicles are red and yellow http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/684/attachmentkl2.jpg G.I. JOE:Joseph Gordon-Levitt confirmed to MTV News that he does wear a mask, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told us recently that it wouldn’t be the classic hood. But while we’ve been busy speculating over what’s covering his face, would you believe it’s what’s underneath that might be most surprising? “The cool thing about my character was that it’s not that digital,” exclaimed Gordon-Levitt, revealing that he underwent significant changes to adapt to the role. “I get to put hours of prosthetic makeup on and see a different creature altogether. I’ve seen how he looks and it’s really cool.” The transformation into a “creature” falls in line with di Bonaventura’s comments to MTV that the film will tell the origin of a “very twisted” Cobra Commander and that the figure’s gritty backstory will be shown in all its disturbing glory. In that interview, the producer also revealed that Gordon-Levitt will have his own take on the character’s famous high-pitched screech from the 80’s animated series. So what does the actor have to say about it? “I love that voice [from the cartoon],” enthused Gordon-Levitt. “Chris Latta is a fantastic voiceover artist, but if you did that exact voice it would sound ridiculous in a live-action movie. I guess it’s half Chris Latta and half me.” The vocals won’t be the only thing inspired by the cartoon, but according to the star, the film is taking pains to carve out its own niche on the franchise. “Everything is different,” he said. “I think it maintains the spirit of it and all the fun, but it brings the character into three dimensions. It wouldn’t look good if you did an exact replica of the cartoon. You wouldn’t want me wearing a skin-tight bright-blue dictator’s uniform. It would look silly.” Rango:Johnny Depp will reunite with "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski on "Rango," an animated pic that Paramount will finance and distribute. The studio has slotted the film for a March 2011 release. Depp will voice the lead character, a household pet that goes on an adventure to discover its true self. John Logan ("The Aviator") has penned the script from an idea hatched by Verbinski. Verbinski will work with Industrial Light & Magic on the animation. "Rango" will be produced by Verbinski’s Blind Wink Prods., Graham King and John Carls. Par-based Nickelodeon Films is expected to be involved as well. The CG "Rango" will be Par’s most ambitious star-driven entry into animation. Duke Nukem:Fresh from working on the film adaptation of the tongue-in-cheek film noir/action title Max Payne (as a producer), Scott Faye has already partnered up with 3D Realms to get a film adaptation of Duke Nukem underway. The Wrestler:Centers on Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a 1980s-era star pro wrestler who has become a burnt-out shell of his former self. After he has a heart attack during a small-time match, a doctor tells him he could die if he fights again. In an effort to build a new life, Robinson takes a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper and tries to build a relationship with her son. But the prospect of a rematch with his old nemesis the Ayatollah proves too tempting to resist, even if it means risking his life. The Thirteenth Hour:New Line Cinema has acquired Richard Doetsch's upcoming time-travel novel "The Thirteenth Hour". Described as a cross between "The Bourne Identity" and "The Time Traveler's Wife", the book follows a man accused of brutally murdering his wife who is given a chance to save her by going back in time, in one-hour increments. He puts together clues to figure out not only who killed her but why. Michael De Luca will produce the film, one of his first New Line projects since leaving his post as production president eight years ago. Doetsch previously wrote bestseller "The Thieves of Heaven." Tooth Fairy:Julie Andrews will join Dwayne Johnson and Ashley Judd in Fox's family comedy Tooth Fairy. Also on board are "Extras" star Stephen Merchant, who also co-created "The Office," and pro skateboarder Ryan Sheckler (MTV's "Life of Ryan"). The film centers on Derek Thompson (Johnson), a minor-league hockey player whose nickname is the Tooth Fairy because of his ability to knock out opposing players' teeth. Judd plays his girlfriend. When he discourages a youngster's hope, Derek is ordered to one week's hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with wings, magic wand and frilly tutu. Along the way, he rediscovers his forgotten dreams. Andrews will play Lily, a high-ranking, acerbic supervisor with the Tooth Fairy Department charged with overseeing Derek's stint as a tooth fairy. But unbeknownst to him this machine is also empowering creatures from other realities, giving them the ability to "drift" - travel between dimensions. Davis discovers that a "drifter" has been causing the random mutilations and sets out to destroy his brother's machine. In the process, Davis is exposed to a vast amount of the machine's energy, turning him too into a drifter. The studio is in discussions with producer Joe Roth for a new version of "XXX," one that would bring back Vin Diesel as star and Rob Cohen as director. The duo teamed on the 2002 original, which starred Diesel as Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who gets drafted by the government for a dangerous mission. Roth controls the property because the original film was made by his Revolution Studios, which was also behind "XXX: State of the Union," a sequel that starred Ice Cube and was directed by Lee Tamahori. sickness
The Spirit:http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/9264/spiritver11ss2.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/8330/spiritver12mw0.jpg Sherlock Holmes:Recently Entertainment Weekly has been pretty good on the casting rumor front so when they say Jude Law is in talks to star in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes I tend to believe them and expect an official announcement to follow soon. If cast, Jude would star alongside Robert Downey Jr. as the title character in a Sherlock adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original tale, but it is also said that the "Sherlock Holmes" comicbook played a part in the creation of the new story. Also starring in the feature is Mark Strong as the film's villain with production is scheduled to begin in October. At one point Russell Crowe was rumored to play Watson. The Green Hornet:In a press release sent out today Columbia Pictures announced Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle) will direct and star in The Green Hornet. Chow will star as Kato, opposite Seth Rogen who co-wrote the film with Evan Goldberg. The film is set for release on June 25, 2010. Couples Retreat:Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau will star in Couples Retreat for Universal Pictures. The story, based on an idea by Vaughn, follows four couples who go to a tropical island resort. While one couple is there to work on their marriage, the others are there to play but soon discover that participation in the resort's couples therapy is not optional. Jason Bateman and Faizon Love also star. Peter Billingsly will direct from a script by Favreau with production currently scheduled to start in October in Bora Bora and Los Angeles. Middle Men:Luke Wilson and Giovanni Ribisi will star in Middle Men which will chronicle of the birth of the online porn industry. The indie drama centers on a straight-and-narrow businessman who builds the first online billing company dealing exclusively with adult entertainment and finds himself in the middle of a whirlwind filled with starlets, conmen, Russian mobsters, federal agents and international terrorists -- all while trying to hold on to his marriage and family. Shooting starts next month in Phoenix. George Gallo will direct from the script he wrote with Andy Weiss. A Fox's Tale:Freddie Highmore will voice the lead character in the upcoming animated feature "A Fox's Tale". The story revolves around a young Fox named Little Jack who enjoys a blissful life in the woods until his father is captured and forced to work in a circus. Little Jack teams up with a young boy, and together they devise a plan to save the father. Bill Nighy, Miranda Richardson, and Sienna Miller also star. Mike Moran will be composing all-new songs for the film which George Gat will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Doka. Dark Fields:Neil Burger confirmed that he would start shooting Dark Fields with actor Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) in New York City sometime this winter. Based on the 2002 novel "The Dark Fields" by Alan Glynn, the Universal Studios thriller is about a pill that makes you smarter and it's Burger's first film directed based on someone else's script, in this case an adaptation by Leslie Dixon, who's also writing the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. While She Was Out:A suburban housewife (Kim Basinger) is forced to fend for herself when she becomes stranded in a desolate forest with four murderous thugs. What starts off as a quick trip to the mall ends in the woods with a fight for her life. All she has is a toolbox and her will to survive. Quote Link to comment
Igniz
Games-to-Film Update AliceAmerican McGee's Alice, the gamemaker's twisted take on Alice in Wonderland, has been on and off for over a decade. The latest iteration had Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar set to star, but as of June the whole thing seemed to be on the skids. Producer Scott Faye wrote on his blog: "Alice is presently in 'turnaround' from Universal Studios. Jon and Erich Hoeber have written a very compelling feature film screenplay adaptation of the Alice game. Their screenplay will certainly serve as a jumping off point as we find a new studio home for the project. In terms of the realistic chances of seeing the Alice project being produced, all I can say is that I have invested (along with Julie Yorn and Karen Lauder, my producing partners on the project) a lot of time and effort in this project. We will get it made." Director Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder) had been attached, but both he and Gellar are no longer linked. It sounds like it could still happen. It took eight years for them to make Max Payne, after all. BioShockPirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski has been hired by Universal Pictures to helm and produce a movie version of 2k Games/Irrational Games first-person shooter BioShock. The script will probably be written by John Logan (Sweeney Todd, The Aviator). For the uninitiated, BioShock is a unique game that mixes a spine-chilling setting illustrated with art deco art and architecture, sci-fi themes of bio-genetic mutation and self-modification. After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, the player discovers a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. CastlevaniaLast we heard, director Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) had been hired by Rogue Pictures and Crystal Sky Entertainment to direct their movie version of the classic Konami vampire videogame Castlevania. White, who is also attached to the film adaptation of Frank Miller's Ronin, took over from Paul W.S. Anderson who had planned to direct, but opted to make Death Race instead. The studios have also brought in Death Sentence scribe Ian Jeffers to do a rewrite of the film. The Castlevania movie had been set for a 2008 release, but it hit a few bumps in the road. It's been a year since we've had confirmation that this project is still in development. It could be a great one, so we'll keep tracking it and have more for you soon. Clock TowerHairspray hottie Brittany Snow is set to star in this Senator Entertainment adaptation of the best-selling Capcom videogame franchise. The story centers on a young woman gets a disturbing phone call from her estranged mother warning her not to come home. When she investigates, she uncovers a terrible supernatural truth from her past. Martin Weisz, director of The Hills Have Eyes II, is helming the project, which is set for a November production start in Los Angeles. Duke NukemMax Payne producer Scott Faye is planning to bring another videogame maverick to the big screen, Duke Nukem. Faye is collaborating with publisher 3D Relms' Scott Miller on the project. He says, "I'm working diligently at making a Duke Nukem movie scenario that will live up to the character and its import in the videogame world... as is the case with all of my game adaptations, I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation." The gun-toting, bleach-blonde antihero has been causing carnage on a variety of gaming platforms since his 2-D, PC debut back in 1991, with two next-gen console offerings in now the making, as well as the long-delayed PC update Duke Nukem 4Ever. Far CryPerennial videogame movie director Uwe Boll stikes again! The Far Cry flick is actually finished, but as far as we know it's still look for a distributor. Til Schweiger (King Arthur) stars in the role of the charismatic ex-elite soldier Jack Carver, Emmanuelle Vaugier (Blonde & Blonder, CSI:NY) will play reporter Valerie Cardinal and Craig Fairbrass (The Bank Job) has been cast as Parker. Udo Kier (Grindhouse, Blade, BloodRayne) will reign as the evil and arrogant Dr. Krieger, the obsessive madman behind many mysteries and deadly secrets of the Krieger Corporation and its creature. Natalia Avelon, Ralf Moeller, Michael Pare (Eddie and the Cruisers), Michael Eklund, Don Davis, Jay Brazeau and Chris Coppola (Postal) round out the cast. Gears of WarLive Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is set to direct the Gears of War movie, based on the popular Epic Games title. Screenwriter Chris Morgan has been drafted to pen the script for New Line -- his previous credits include Wanted and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Epic Games exec Mark Rein told Variety in June, "It's like with our games, you can have it right or have it right now. We want to get it right. There's no timetable for us. We just want to make as good a movie as we can, and we think [Wiseman's] the guy who will do it." Gears of War is tentatively set for a 2010 release. God of WarA movie version of the PlayStation hit God of War appears to be solidly in development at Universal. There's been no official announcement on this, but director Brett Ratner (X3, Rush Hour) is rumored to be directing the movie God of War is a bloody story of vengeance, set in an ancient Greece full of mythical beings and deities. The hero of the story is a Spartan warrior named Kratos, who must carry out missions for the gods on Olympus to prevent Ares from destroying the city of Athens. Screenwriter David Self is writing the script for the adaptation. His previous credits include Road to Perdition, Thirteen Days, The Haunting, and the upcoming Wolf Man movie. Kane & LynchKane & Lynch is on the fast track at Lionsgate where they've got Die Hard star Bruce Willis set to play mercenary "Kane" Marcus. Veteran stunt coordinator and 2nd unit director Simon Crane will make his feature directing debut on the Kyle Ward-scripted action flick based on the popular Eidos Interactive videogame. The story tells the violent and chaotic journey of two men -- a flawed mercenary and a medicated psychopath. The story will parallel that of the game, which follows the pair as they encounter one another while en route to death row, and together they decide to embark on a quest for revenge against Kane's former employers, one of those mysterious and covert organization types. Lynch has yet to be cast, but Billy Bob Thornton's name has been kicked around. Max PayneMax Payne, adapted from the 3DRealms game, hits theaters on October 17 courtesy of 20th Century Fox. The story stars Mark Wahlberg as maverick cop hell-bent on revenge against those responsible for the brutal murder of his family and partner. His obsessive investigation takes him on a nightmarish journey into a dark underworld. As the mystery deepens, Max is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world and face an unthinkable betrayal John Moore, whose most recent projects include WWII drama Behind Enemy Lines, horror remake The Omen and airborne adventure Flight of the Phoenix, directed. The movie also stars Mila Kunis, Beau Bridges, and Chris Bridges. Metal Gear SolidKurt Wimmer, the filmmaker behind sci-fi actioners Equilibrium and Ultraviolet, is the latest name to be associated with the writing and directing gig on the game-to-film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. What exactly would the movie be about? It's unclear, but for his part, game creator Hideo Kojima has hinted that it might be different from any game storyline. "Things one can express in a game are different of those in a movie," he said in a 2004 interview with Variety. "It would have to be a very different script, almost a different story." What we do know is that writer-actor David Hayter, who has provided the voice for Solid Snake, the game's protagonist for years, will likely not be involved in the movie version. Hayter had pitched his take on the project to Konami, but they passed. Prince of PersiaHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire helmer Mike Newell is directing the live-action adaptation of Prince of Persia, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Ben Kingsley plays the evil Nizam, who plots to k*ll his brother King Shahrman, blame it Dastan, and then nab the Persian throne for himself. The script was penned by Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Boaz Yakin, and the game's creator, Jordan Mechner. Prince of Persia had been set for release next year, but it's been bumped by Disney to 2010. SporeA film based on EA's popular sim could be coming to the big screen. "With Spore, we're looking way outside the game space, such as TV, movies, etc. We're basically planting the seeds to spread Spore out to a much wider group of people than would ever play a computer game," creator Will Wright told Reuters in an interview in August. Spore begins in the primordial ooze, as players create a character from DNA that will grow, survive, and mate as it evolves from a single-celled organism to a fully-formed member of an establishing species. As more and more creatures inhabit the world, and as evolution forms the future, your species will join herds, clans, even civilizations. The more advanced the creatures of the planet grow, the more complex the strife of survival becomes. It's a hugely customizable gaming experience that would certainly be a challenge to bring to the big screen. Spy-HunterSpy-Hunter has been in development for some time now, but things on the project based on Midway's hit game appear to have slowed to a crawl. The latest is that Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson has been tapped to write and direct the movie for Universal. Anderson joined the project last summer and at the time he told industry insider mag Variety that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is not currently set to play the title role, as had been the case when the project was first setup. The movie follows a fighter pilot turned intelligence agent who does battle with a nefarious terrorist organization from behind the wheel of his fully armed G-6155 Interceptor vehicle. From inside the car, which has morphing capabilities that allow it to change from a car into a motorcycle, jet ski and submarine, he hunts the dangerous spies and assassins of Nostra, who engage him in their own sophisticated vehicles. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li20th Century Fox will release the new Street Fighter movie, about female fighter Chun Li, played by Kirsten Kreuk, in February. Kreuk stars along with, Neil McDonagh (M. Bison), Chris Klein (Nash), Michael Clark Duncan (Balrog) and Robin Shou (Gen). Actress Moon Bloodgood stars as a new character, Detective Maya Sunee. So, what's up with the flick focusing on Chun Li and clearly not including some of the videogame's most popular characters? Screenwriter Justin Marks wrote on the movie's blog, ""Think of the X-Men franchise," he wrote. "Think of the way it started with a simple story of Wolverine trying to find a place in the world. And then it spawned an entire universe of amazing characters. If we didn't keep this movie grounded, we would risk turning Street Fighter into a parody of itself. And to those of us who are fans of fighting franchises, the last thing we want is a movie that doesn't take itself seriously" Romeo Must Die helmer Andrzej Bartowiak is directing. TekkenTekken, based on the long running and highly successful Namco video game franchise of the same name, is written by Alan McElroy (Spawn, The Marine) and directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas, Murder at 1600). The flick's fight choreography is handled by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2, Doom, Red Cliff). Set in 2039, the film tells what happens as the greatest fighters from around the world come to compete in the last and greatest sporting event of all time, the Fist Tournament. After World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth. The story follows Jin Kazama, a street fighter that enters the tournament in order to avenge the death of his mother that he blames upon Tekken's powerful and controlling Chairman, Heihachi Mishima. He knows that the only way to get close enough to Mishima to k*ll him is to win the tournament. With the help of Lucas, an ageing Iron Fist Champion and fight trainer, Jin makes his way through the tournament, but in doing so, he begins to uncover his own past and inner demons as well as exposing a dark underbelly to Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity.
