Justice League of America:

’Mad Max’’ star Hugh Keays-Byrne was announced yesterday as playing ‘The Martian Manhunter’ in the film. He joins Megan Gale (Wonder Woman), Armie Hammer (Batman), Adam Brody (The Flash), Teresa Palmer (Talia al Ghul), Common (The Green Lantern) and Zoe Kazan (Iris Allen).

 

 

 

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins

Warner Bros. will open McG's Christian Bale starrer "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" on May 22, 2009, the start of Memorial Day weekend. Storyline is being kept under tight wraps, but plot is part of a planned three-picture arc that begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust. A group of survivors led by John Connor (Bale) struggles to stop the machines. Sam Worthington ("Avatar") is in talks to star as well.

 

 

 

Night at the Museum II: Escape From the Smithsonian

Hank Azaria has revealed to MTV News a few more details about who to expect in the highly anticipated sequel to "Night at the Museum." First off, he's playing "a fictional Egyptian pharaoh that comes to life. I'm the villain in the movie and have all sorts of nasty plans for modern society and poor Ben Stiller gets caught in the middle of it."

 

Azaria also confirms that Amy Adams ("Enchanted") will be playing Amelia Earhart, whilst original cast members Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Ricky Gervais will all return.

 

 

 

Transporter 3:

Jason Statham will return as Frank Martin in Transporter 3. In the three-quel, Statham will reprise his role as the mercenary driver/delivery man. Francois Berleand will return to the franchise while new addition Robert Knepper ("Prison Break") will also star. Olivier Megaton will direct, replacing Louis Leterrier who directed the first two movies. Luc Besson and Steve Chasman will produce. Besson co-wrote the first two films.

 

 

 

Shutter Island

Emily Mortimer, Jackie Earle Haley and Max Von Sydow have joined the cast of Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island for Paramount Vantage. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as a pair of U.S. marshals who travel to a Massachusetts island to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane. Chaos ensues as they encounter a web of deceit, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island. Mortimer and Haley will play patients at the facility while Von Sydow will play one of the hospital's physicians. Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams and Patricia Clarkson also star. Laeta Kalogridis adapted the screenplay from Dennis Lehane's 2004 novel.

 

 

 

The De2cent:

In the sequel to Lionsgate's terrifying film, Shauna Macdonald's character of Sarah returns as a rescue crew finds her and takes her back into the cave to find survivors - where terror ensues once again.

 

 

 

100 Feet:

Feet! A young woman, Marnie Watson, is granted early release from her prison sentence for manslaughter (killing her husband – a violent NYC cop – in self defense) on condition she wear an electronic ankle bracelet and remain within her home, effectively under house arrest, for the remainder of her sentence. Her late husband’s partner keeps tabs on her from a patrol car parked across the street, hoping she’ll violate probation and he can send her back to prison. But the 100-foot radius her ankle bracelet allows isn’t the worst of her problems. Her dead husband --now a malevolent ghost--is still in the house, where he died -- intent on savage revenge

Astroboy: The Movie

British thesp Freddie Highmore has signed on to voice the titular character in Imagi Studios upcoming CG-animated feature ASTROBOY, an adaptation of the Osamu Tezuka series of the same name. In an effort to save time and promote laziness, here's a breakdown of the plot, courtesy of Imagi's press release: "Set in futuristic Metro City, AstroBoy, is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist to replace the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving father's expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the man who had rejected him." The film's set for release in 2009.

 

 

 

Watchmen:

Niall Matter (The Best Years, Eureka, Stargate Atlantis) has told Watchmen Comic Movie that he plays the role of Mothman in the upcoming comic adaptation. In the comics, Mothman is one of the original "Minutemen," a group of heroes who fought crime in the 1930s and '40s. The Minutement served as the inspiration for the later team of the Watchmen. Mothman, aka Byron Lewis, isn't seen much in the graphic novel, and is best known for being the former superhero whose career took a toll on his mind, drove him to become an alcoholic and led him into a sanitarium.

 

 

 

The Stepfather (remake):

Amber Heard and Jon Tenney have joined the cast of The Stepfather. The remake of the 1987 horror thriller stars Dylan Walsh as a soon-to-be husband who might have murdered his previous family. Sela Ward will play his future wife. Tenney will play her ex-husband who is trying to reconnect and protect their teenage son (Penn Badgley). Heard will play Badgley's girlfriend. Nelson McCormick will direct for Sony Screen Gems.

 

 

 

The Box:

Norma and Arthur Lewis are faced with a terrible dilemma when a mysterious glass box turns up at their door. If they press the button inside the box, they'll get enough money to save their ailing son, but in exchange, someone, somewhere in the world will die. When the temptation to save their beloved son becomes too much to bear, Norma pushes the button. Immediately, a gunshot rings out somewhere nearby. The Fast and the Furious 4:

You've all probably heard by now that Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will be back behind the wheel for The Fast and the Furious 4. It's also been reported that hottie Jordana Brewster will be reprising her role in the high-octane street racing franchise. Now, there's word of another babe joining the cast. Rumor has it that newcomer Gal Gadot, who reportedly narrowly missed being cast as a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace, has snagged a part in the fourth Furious flick. The Fast and the Furious 4 is expected to film this March in Los Angeles, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

 

 

 

Race to Witch Mountain:

Ciaran Hinds and Alexander Ludwig have joined the cast of "Race to Witch Mountain," Disney's remake of its 1975 adventure movie "Escape to Witch Mountain". The adaptation revolves around a pair of paranormal-powered siblings who, with the help of a Las Vegas cab driver, go on the run from a diabolical group of men who wish to exploit their abilities. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays the cabbie, AnnaSophia Robb and Ludwig will play the kids, whilst Hinds will play the nefarious leader of the evil group. Andy Fickman is on board to direct the action thriller scheduled to begin filming late March in Los Angeles.

 

 

 

Tropic Thunder:

Tropic Thunder stars Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jay Baruchel, Jack Black, Nick Nolte, Steve Coogan, Bill Hader, Matthew McConaughey and has a cameo from Tom Cruise. Stiller directed the pic and it hits theaters on August 15, 2008.

Dragonball:

The live action Dragonball movie will be pushed back from August 15th to April 3rd, 2009. The cast includes Chow Yun Fat, Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum and Jamie Chung. The film, directed by James Wong, follows Goku (Chatwin), a warrior alien who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the universe and controlling mystical objects known as Dragon Balls. Stephen Chow is producing. Dragonball is currently shooting in Mexico City and Los Angeles.

 

 

 

Final Destination 4 3-D:

Justin Welborn (The Signal) will join Nick Zano, Krista Allen, Andy Fiscella, Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten and Haley Webb in Sean Ellis' Final Destination 4 3-D. The story kicks off when a teenager's premonition of a deadly racecar crash spares his life and those of a few lucky others. But death continues to stalk those who escaped it. Filming is underway with no

release plans announced just yet - but the film will hit theaters in HD 3-D from New Line and Warner Bros. Pictures.

 

 

 

Last House on the Left (remake):

Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter will star in Rogue Pictures' "Last House on the Left." Dennis Iliadis is on board to direct the remake of Wes Craven's seminal horror film about escaped convicts who take two teenage girls hostage and then take refuge in one of the girl's home after leaving her for dead. Mark Haslett, Carl Ellsworth and Adam Alleca penned the screenplay. Craven is producing alongside Marianne Maddalena and Sean Cunningham.

 

 

 

Unborn:

Meagan Good, Carla Gugino, Jane Alexander, Idris Elba and Rhys Coiro are joining a rabbinical Gary Oldman and a haunted Odette Yustman in Rogue Pictures' supernatural thriller "Unborn." Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing writer-director David Goyer's tale of a girl (Yustman) tormented by the soul of a boy who died in the Holocaust.

Good ("The Love Guru") will play the girl's best friend, and Gugino ("Spy Kids") has been cast as her mother. Alexander will play a Holocaust survivor whose brother's spirit is returning. Elba ("American Gangster") will play a priest who helps Rabbi Oldman perform exorcisms. Coiro (HBO's "Entourage") is the college professor of Yustman's character, and Cam Gigandet will play her boyfriend.

Watchmen:

Bangkok Dangerous (remake)

Nicolas Cage, Charlie Yeung, and Shahkrit Yamnarm stars and the Pang Brothers direct. A hitman (Cage) in Bangkok to pull off a series of jobs falls for a local woman and bonds with his errand boy.

 

 

 

The Fast and the Furious 4:

Michelle Rodriguez is set to reprise her role of Letty in Universal Pictures' The Fast and the Furious 4. Also returning for the fourth film are first installment cast members Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster. According to Universal Pictures, in the anticipated film The Fast and the Furious 4, Brian (Walker) and Dominic (Diesel) team up to help the feds stop a heroin importer known as Braga. Brian - and ultimately Dominic - wins a place on the criminal's team, where he and his flashy Nissan plan to catch the man red-handed.

 

 

 

Law Abiding Citizen:

Gerard Butler who has launched his "Evil Twins" company with longtime manager Alan Siegel. And, with the announcement, comes word that their first project will be Law Abiding Citizen in which Butler will also star. The psychological thriller will find Gerry (as his friends call him) starring as a successful assistant D.A. who finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system. Shooting begins this summer from a script by Kurt Wimmer.

 

 

 

Pierre Pierre:

Jason Reitman ("Juno") is attached to direct and Jim Carrey will star in Fox Atomic's comedy "Pierre Pierre" reports the trades. Written by Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton, the politically incorrect story, dealing with racism, sexism and Europeans, centers on a self-indulgent French nihilist (Carrey) who is entrusted to transport a stolen Mona Lisa and in the process falls back in love with his homeland.

 

 

 

Notorious:

Rapper Jamal Woolard (aka Gravy) will star as Notorious B.I.G. in Notorious for Fox Searchlight. The biopic centers on the life of Christopher Wallace (aka Notorious B.I.G.) from his beginnings as a Brooklyn crack dealer to his rise to the top of the world of hip-hop. His murder has never been solved. The movie will also star Angela Bassett (as Biggie's Mother, Voletta Wallace), Derek Luke (as Sean "P Diddy" Combs) and Anthony Mackie (as Tupac Shakur). Antonique Smith, Naturi Naughton, Dennis White and Julia Pace Mitchell round out the cast.

 

 

 

Obsessed:

Beyonce Knowles, Ali Larter and Idris Elba will star in Obsessed for Screen Gems. The thriller casts Elba as an asset manager who has a knockout wife (Knowles) and thriving career until a temp office worker (Larter) begins stalking him. Steve Shill will direct a script by David Loughery. Production begins this summer.

 

 

 

Chain Letter:

From the producers of "Saw" comes the horror feature, which introduces the chain-wielding killer 'Chain Man' (Michael Bailey Smith). The tale of a maniac who targets teens when they fail to forward chain mail. Matthew Cohen, Cody Kasch, Michael J. Pagan, Cherilyn Wilson, Reed and Segan play his targets. Clifton Powell will play their high school coach, and Russell and David will play the police officers on the killer's tail.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time:

Director Mike Newell ("Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire") will lens action adventure pic "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" in Morocco for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney Pictures. Based on the best-selling video game series, the live-action feature is scheduled to film in the North African country in mid-June - actor's strike notwithstanding. Jeffrey Nachmanoff ("The Day After Tomorrow") and vidgame creator Jordan Mechner penned the script for the film scheduled for release July 10th 2009.

The Chaser (remake):

Scribe William Monahan ("Kingdom of Heaven," "The Departed") is in discussions to adapt and produce an American remake of the Korean thriller "The Chaser". Leonardo DiCaprio is circling the lead role of an ex-cop who goes on the warpath trying to find a missing girl. The girl, who may or may not be alive, is being used by a serial killer to taunt the police. The story is loosely based on the exploits of a real-life serial killer. Warner Bros. Pictures just picked up the remake rights to the project and is developing with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

 

 

 

Hotel Transylvania:

Jill Culton ("Open Season") will direct Sony Pictures Animation's "Hotel Transylvania" reports the trades. The story centers on Simon Van Helsing, the youngest in a long line of monster hunters. The last thing Van Helsing wants to do is fall in love with Dracula's Daughter, Mavis. Upon discovering that they are natural enemies, the doomed couple attempts to bring peace between monsters and humans. In the end, each family will have some new blood.

 

 

 

Hell Ride:

Larry Bishop takes on the role of Pistolero, head honcho of the Victors, a group of badass bikers who are out to avenge the murder of one of their members at the hands of the 666ers, a rival gang whose actions live up to their hellish moniker.

Superman Returns director Bryan Singer directs a World War II thriller starring Tom Cruise and penned by writing partners Chris McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander. The "July 20 Plot" on Hitler’s life is one of the most heroic but least known episodes of WWII. Severely wounded in combat, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg returns from Africa to join the German Resistance and help create Operation Valkyrie, the complex plan that will allow a shadow government to replace Hitler's once he is dead. Midnight Meat Train (2008) is a horror film based on Clive Barker's 1984 short story of the same name. The film will follow a NYC photographer who attempts to track down a serial killer dubbed the "Subway Butcher" and discovers more than he bargained for under the city streets. The feature film version will be directed by Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura, starring Bradley Cooper, Roger Bart, Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields, adapted by Jeff Buhler, produced by Tom Rosenberg of Lakeshore Entertainment, distributed by Lionsgate for 2008 release.
