Batman: Gotham Knight

Wizard's 2008 movie preview has a few details, informing salivating Batfans that the "movie" will actually be a collection of six stories from different writers, directed by Bruce Timm (BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES). The new stories, done in anime style by three Japanese studios, will apparently bridge the gap between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT and explore "different facets of Batman often seen in comics but never really explored in animation and film." The stories will link together thematically but also be independent, each with a different appearance, particularly in regards to Bruce Wayne and his nocturnal alter ego.

The Avengers:

IRON MAN director and card-carrying comic fan Jon Favreau wouldn't mind a shot at assembling THE AVENGERS. The original incarnation of the superteam featured Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp, with Captain America joining shortly after. But since Marvel's characters -- once scattered to various studios -- are slowly gravitating back to their control, the logistics of such a gathering are not beyond the realm of possibility. In fact, rumor has it that the IRON MAN and INCREDIBLE HULK movies might share cameos from another Marvel character, SHIELD director Nick Fury.

Bond 22:

Gemma Arterton has been cast as the new Bond girl for the latest installment of the James Bond franchise. Rumors of the casting had been making the rounds for the last couple of weeks, but it was officially confirmed today by the film's producers as well as Arterton's agent. Although nothing is known about the character, it was revealed her name is "Fields". The movie is currently filming in London with Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007. Marc Forster is directing.

Nightmare on Elm Street:

New Line says there are NO immediate plans for "Freddy vs Jason 2". The good news is that New Line is actively developing both the previously announced "Friday the 13th" remake, and another "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie.

Frankenstein:

Guillermo del Toro -- visionary director of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth -- is apparently planning a movie version of Mary Shelly's monster classic Frankenstein. The Mexican helmer told MTV News he's in planning on the "definitive take" of the spooky tale, and revealed that he's already begun pre-production duties and is crafting several drawings. "I started doing some notes before the strike," he revealed. "

Doomsday:

"Doomsday," written by Marshall, is set three decades after a lethal virus tore through a major country, leading to the country's walling off. When the virus, known as the Reaper, resurfaces in another country, an elite group is dispatched to the infected country to find a cure. There, they end up shut off from the rest of the world and must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.

Prom Night (remake):

Donna's senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty, and love. Surrounded by her best frinds, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible.. the man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of a killer, and survive their Prom Night.

G.I. JOE:

Marlon Wayans has joined the cast of G.I. Joe for Paramount Pictures. In the movie, Wayans will play Ripcord, the leader of the military unit. The iconic Snake-Eyes, the Joes' masked and silent ninja, will be played by none other than Darth Maul himself, Ray Park. G.I. Joe's female leads so far include Rachel Nichols (P2, Alias) as Scarlett and Sienna Miller (Layer Cake, Stardust) as the sinister Baroness, although rumor has it that a few more female Joes might also be in the mix. On the Cobra side of casting, Storm Shadow is set to be played by actor Byung-hun Lee (Winter Sonata). Lee is a superstar in Japan and his native South Korea, and should be familiar to gamers as the main character in Capcom's Lost Planet. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known as Mr. Eko on Lost, will play ordinance expert Heavy Duty, while Sleeper Cell's Said Taghmaoui has been cast as communications specialist Breaker. (Like Ripcord, Breaker was a white character in the comics.) Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in negotiations to join the movie based on the American soldier action figure created by Hasbro. Stephen Sommers will direct from a screenplay most recently written by Stuart Beattie.

Bond 22:

It was announced today that Olga Kurylenko will be playing 007's leading lady, "the dangerously alluring Camille, who challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper's betrayal". The announcement comes hot on the heels of news that Gemma Arterton had joined the cast. Instead, we now know that Arterton will be playing MI6 Agent Fields opposite Daniel Craig's Bond. The cast also includes Mathieu Amalric as the film's sinister villain, Dominic Greene, a leading member of the villainous organization introduced in Casino Royale, Judi Dench as M, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis.

The Reader:

Kate Winslet will replace Nicole Kidman in The Reader for The Weinstein Co. The drama follows a teen who falls for an enigmatic older woman in postwar Germany. Ralph Fiennes and David Kross also star in the movie which will be directed by Stephen Daldry based on the book by Bernhard Schlink. Kidman chose to drop out of the project after announcing this week that she was pregnant.

Eagle Eye:

Michael Chiklis has joined the cast of Eagle Eye starring Shia LaBeouf. The story revolves around a slacker (LaBeouf) and a single mother (Michelle Monaghan) who form an unlikely partnership when they are framed as terrorists and forced to become members of a cell with plans to carry out a political assassination. Chiklis will play the U.S. secretary of defense. The cast also includes Billy Bob Thornton, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Azizi and Anthony Mackie. D.J. Caruso will direct for DreamWorks.

The Host (prequel):

The plot revolves around the restoration of the Cheonggyecheon, a stream that runs through the heart of Seoul and into the Han River. For years the stream was covered by concrete, but it was restored in 2005. It is now one of the main tourist attractions in Seoul, although the restoration has made life more difficult for the inhabitants around the stream. This prequel will take place in 2003, when the restoration just started, and it seems that the unearthing of this stream gives way to the monsters getting out.

An unnamed movie production company has established a rapport with the game's developer 2K, and want to bring BIOSHOCK's amazing retro realm to reality using 300-style green-screen and CG techniques. We've all seen some outstanding videogames get shredded or sodomized in their translation to the big screen, so lets just hope the developers keep the reins tight on their intellectual property.

Set in the 1960s, the game follows a man whose plane crashes near the underwater city called Rapture. Built by a businessman as a sanctuary for brilliant scientists and artists to freely practice their crafts, Rapture fell into chaos as the inhabitants slowly became obsessed with genetic modification.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Rumor has it that the seventh and final Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into two separate films. This comes as an artistic decision, not a financial one. The crew working on the sixth Potter film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince were informed of the decision this week. The seventh novel is 776 pages long, and Rowling insists that splitting the film in two will allow fan favorite scenes to stay in the movie.

A source close to the film states, "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well." Warner Brothers simply stated, "People are discussing all possibilities."

X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

Liev Schreiber ("The Sum of all Fears," "The Manchurian Candidate") will play Victor Creed - aka. Sabretooth - in the Gavin Hood-directed "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Schreiber involvement was previously thought to be that of a young Stryker, the villain played by Brian Cox in "X2: X-Men United" who was responsible for Wolverine's creation.

Instead "Six Feet Under" and "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall is in talks for the role of Stryker, whilst Michelle Monaghan is being sought for Silver Fox. "Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe. The film opens next May.

Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans

As we know, the film is set to be a prequel story and will not star either Kate Beckinsale of Scott Speedman. The current cast includes Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Rhona Mitra and Shane Brolly and it is set to be directed by Patrick Tatopoulos.

The latest version of the synopsis tells us this prequel traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
