Upcoming Movies - Want To Watch?

Recommended Posts

Tintin:

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are teaming to direct and produce three back-to-back features based on Georges Remi's beloved Belgian comic-strip hero Tintin for DreamWorks. The filmmakers will each direct at least one of the movies. The movies will be produced in full digital 3-D using WETA Digital's performance capture technology.

The series, which has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide, chronicles the adventures of a junior reporter who will follow stories to the ends of the earth, even though he often finds his own life in jeopardy. His able assistants include a white dog named Snowy, the lunatic Captain Haddock, the muddled genius Professor Calculus and the Thompson Twins. Spielberg and Jackson have selected three stories from Remi's "The Adventures of Tintin" series, which encompassed 23 books published between 1929 and 1976. Spielberg has held various film rights to the series off and on for more than 25 years.

Rumor has it that the teaser trailer will be shown on the front of Harry Potter this summer. Here's a description of the trailer: the teaser trailer will show a series of playing cards falling in slow-motion against a black background. Over this we supposedly hear The Joker's voice. The last card to fall is a joker card "with also a picture of the bat signal on fire."

Unfortunately that rumor was killed. :P

AICN and many other sites around the web are reporting that a teaser trailer for the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight, will premiere before Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Unfortunately we have received word from a VERY GOOD SOURCE that this is completely 100% untrue. So mark this rumor as killed. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hits theaters on July 13.

Thomas Jane Drops Out of The Punisher 2

Posted on Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 at 4:56 pm by: Peter Sciretta

The Punisher star Thomas Jane revealed to AICN that he is dropping out of the proposed Punisher sequel.

“I regretfully and painfully had to pull out of P2. I can’t tell you how completely broken up I am about it,” Jane wrote. “Punisher fans are already fighting an uphill battle as it is. And I’ve always felt a responsibility to fight that fight for them and with them so that Frank Castle gets the treatment he deserves.”

While I very much hated the Punisher movie, but love the comic book character. I have a feeling that with the success of the family friendly comic book movies, the studio wanted to take the character in a more PG direction. And this is just my assumption.

Jane also wrote:

“What I won’t do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don’t believe in. I’ve always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch.”

Hulk and Iron Man to Appear in The Avengers Movie?

Posted on Friday, May 18th, 2007 at 12:49 pm by: Peter Sciretta

In the past I’ve viciously bashed Zak Penn as an overrated hack. He gets a lot of credit for being one of the writers on Bryan Singer’s X2, which many consider to be one of the best comic book adaptations of all time. But truth be told, he’s written a lot of crap, including the Elektra movie, X-Men: The Last Stand and an early draft of Fantastic Four. Anyway, when it comes to comic book movies, Penn is Hollywood’s golden boy of the moment. Not only is he writing the script for The Incredible Hulk do-over, but also a young X-Men spinoff and a film based on Marvel’s The Avengers. Penn now tells MTV that he hopes to bring both Hulk and Iron Man on screen together in the superhero team-up.

“‘Avengers’ is definitely going to happen; the idea was always to do a crossover with multiple superheros,” Penn revealed of the superhero tag team group, Marvel’s answer to DC’s Justice League. “I’m waiting to let ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Hulk’ come out because those are two characters that could appear in it. I used to think that movie would be impossible to make but now I feel like it’s not.”

Tagged by Marvel as “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”, the Avengers originally consisted of Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk. But The Hulk departed very early on (The Avengers vol. 1, #2) allowing Captain America to join. But the roster has always been fluid, allowing a rotating group of super-heroes to partake in the team. But most people assumed that Hulk and Iron Man would not be included in the film, especially since high profile actors (Edward Norton and Robert Downey Jr) are playing the characters in their own big blockbuster releases. One of the big problems of doing another X-Men movie is getting all the stars to sign on. With huge actors it’s harder to schedule and way more expensive. But does Paramount believe they could secure both Norton and Downey to a team-up movie?

We Own The Night Movie Trailer

Posted on Saturday, May 19th, 2007 at 11:40 pm by: Peter Sciretta

What if The Departed took-place in New York Cit, followed the inner workings of the Russian mob and instead involved two brothers? It would probably look a lot like We Own The Night. It probably helps that the film also stars our favorite foul-mouthed Boston cop Dignam. And that's actually not an insult but a compliment. The Departed was the best movie of last year, and this looks like it could be close to that level (well, you never know from just a trailer). The film is written and directed by James Gray (Little Odessa, The Yards) and premieres at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Duvall, and Eva Mendes star in this story about a New York nightclub manager tries to save his brother and father from Russian mafia hit men. Check out the movie trailer after the jump.

Universal owns the distribution rights, although the release date is not yet set in the US. Our best educated guess says that this film will hit theaters in Late-Late 2007, just in time for Awards season.

We Own The Night Movie Poster Features Twin Towers

Posted on Monday, May 21st, 2007 at 12:17 am by: Peter Sciretta

On Saturday, we posted the movie trailer for James Gray's New York City-based Russian mob story We Own The Night. We noted that the film showed promise, and went as far as comparing it to Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Well, apparently the film takes place in the last millennium, because the film's theatrical poster (via: IMPA) shows the movie's stars, Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes and Robert Duvall with the Twin Towers and the New York City skyline in the background. Obviously the Twin Towers have appeared in movie marketing since 9/11, but as far as I know, only in 9/11 related films and documentaries (World Trade Center, United 93).

After the 2001 attack happened, Hollywood spent a lot of time and money eliminating the WTC from upcoming films and promotional materials (Spider-Man, Zoolander …etc). And while I understand that seeing the towers in the background of a scene could be distracting, I always felt that digitally removing them was an insult to the people who died in the towers. It's almost like you're pretending that they never existed. Anyways, I'm glad to see that 2929 is not afraid to include the towers on the new poster, seen right. I wonder, does anyone know if this is the first post-9/11 non-9/11 Hollywood film to feature the towers on a movie poster?

And if you have not yet, check out the movie trailer. The film is currently playing at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Universal owns the distribution rights, although the release date is not yet set in the US. Our best educated guess says that this film will hit theaters in Late-Late 2007, just in time for Awards season.
