The End of the American Century?

The situation today is totally different from the Japanese era. During that period, China was an extremely impoverished nation which could hardly feed its own population. There was wide-spread hunger in China immediately following the Cultural Revolution. Today, China has the largest economy on earth. It has modernized and broadened its military to a degree where it cannot claim that this is just for self-defense. They cannot even justify the size of their military just to get rid of a couple of pirates. That's overkill. It's like buying a .50 caliber machine gun to k*ll a couple of rats.

Clearly, China built up its military to enforce its claims on the West Philippine Sea. They need the natural gas and oil found underneath the West Philippine Sea to help fuel its overheated economy.

China is getting to close for comfort. They may not have the Philippines in their sights at the moment. But what happens if some idiot Philippine Navy officer under the influence of liquor orders his men to open fire on some Chinese ships? China will claim that we attacked them and launch a counterstrike against Metro Manila.

It's a scary thought that these Chinese are now so close to our territory. And who's to say that China may decide to annex the Philippines 10, 20 years from now? There's not much we can do if or when they decide to do this.

We cannot count on the United States to come to our aid, the Mutual Defense Treaty aside. America will always act according to its own self-interests. If China doesn't pose a threat to US security, the US won't lift a hand to help us.

Now, a US military presence in the Philippines could be used as some sort of bluff to the Chinese. Make them think twice before upping hostilities against ASEAN countries. The US is a counterbalance to the Chinese even if, in reality, when push comes to shove, the US will most likely abandon us.

So we will use our fear to justify the return of US bases in the Philippines?!

Was watching this last night, and Its very insightful

This documentary is a lobby of environmentalists that ignores technology and the issue of greater oil reserves AFTER Earth Day declaration that oil resources are about to dwindle and rapidly vanish. We are paying for the price of that poor declaration. From nowhere 20 years ago, Russian oil supply has become a major political issue that got EU countries claiming that East Europeans in former USSR cannot affiliate with an equivalent Russian economic block, despite the fact that most of East Europe were rooted in Soviet politics in the not so recent 50 years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

People ought to read some US history too and realize that prosperity happened with technology and innovation that delivered convenience to the ordinary people. The Civil War was really about industrial development versus agrarian elitism. It was industry that created the strong middle class. The oppressed and the persecuted by the ruling kingdoms from Old and FEUDAL Europe migrated to the New World. Now where was that issue in the movie? All of a sudden the USA is the most elitist and corrupt nation in the world today. But guess why are they likewise saying that Americans have lost control and multinational corporations lobby LAWS that help corporations create wealth at the expense of the majority who suffer economically from this government misrepresentation.

Americans as well as ordinary people the world over are victims of the elitist lobby which creates unfair competition. Why make all Americans pay for the actions of a few who misuse government, which is not democracy, but a type of socialism where (One World) government (or the politician) plays Almighty God?

Don't look now but Donald Trump is the leading presidential aspirant in the GOP. The question is: Will his success as a real estate magnate translate to being an efficient president? He currently has a seemingly insurmountable lead over other GOP aspirants and it seems that a 2016 presidential showdown with Hillary Clinton is in the works.

Reminds me of the time Villar, a real estate magnate in his own right, ran and lost to Abnoy in the last presidential elections.

If Hillary wins, she's no Aquino. Of that, I am certain. Hillary seems to be a "hawk". If the Chinese wanna dance, she will gladly dance the South China Sea two-step with them.

Hillary did unscrupulous things as Secretary of State; that's going to be a tough battle for her. That is if the American public is paying attention, it'll be difficult to defend that email scandal that's being investigated by the FBI.

Whoever the next US President is going to be, I hope he/she proves to be a stronger leader than the current one. World security depends on it.

Another campus shooting has happened in the US. Again what comes to fore are the gun control laws. Perhaps it is not yet the end of the American century if they can ask themselves why these things only seem to be prevalent in their place. It is important because the shooters belong to the generation of their future leaders. So why do these things happen now when gun control laws are even stricter now than they were generations ago? The Philippines also has strict gun control laws but it is not followed so much so that there are more guns in the Philippines than people. Yet there aren't that many school shootings, are there? Me thinks kasi it's because the kids here still receive spanking
