Thats their plan...even with NZ...yun webster brothers...with blatche positioning outside....at nde ginagamit sina fajardo and aguilar...enjoy mga kalaban kakasalaksak lalo na kung sina castro and romeo lang bumabantay....now imagine nyo kung si abueva bumantay kina parker or yun webster brothers...

Sa tingin ko mas madali na yung pag-qualify ngyon sa Fiba World 2019 kasi seven slots na ang kukunin sa Fiba Asia-Oceana. Pero sana targetin pa din natin yung pagiging no. 1 sa buong Asia.

Former national coach Yeng Guiao on Thursday warned that sending cadets to be part of the Gilas Pilipinas national team will erase the progress made by the squad in recent years.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is planning to revive the old cadet program and gather collegiate stars who will skip the PBA draft and commit solely to the national team.

“Palagay ko kung cadets ang ipapadala natin, ma-se-setback na naman tayo. They will not be the best players that we can send,” Guiao told GMA News Online in a phone interview.

Under the new home-and-away format, FIBA will hold two rounds of Asian qualifiers to be played on six windows: November 2017, February, June, September, and November 2018, and February 2019.

“Kung gusto natin magtuloy ‘yung momentum at hindi masayang ‘yung in-invest natin dito sa program na ‘to, we should still send the best players,” he said. “How we do that, I think ‘yun ang pag-uusapan ngayon.”

Hindi pa talaga pang Olympics ang Gilas. Yung Qualifier na yon. Parang mini olympics na rin yan. Ang nakakainis pa nito mga fans sa atin kung makahirit dati about the tall blacks parang sure win ang Gilas sa kanila. Kung dati referee ang sinisisi sa pagkatalo sa China ngayon ang coach naman. Baguhin kasi natin kung paano tayo mag train ng players lalo na ung mga malalaki nating players. Up to now pagka 6'5 ka ginagawa ka pa rin center. Pero duda ako sa PGs ng Gilas. Let's say nakalusot sila sa qualifier at naka pasok sa Olympics. Pagka natapat sila sa Team USA. Malamang mahihirapan si Romeo at Castro na ibreak ang press ng team USA.

Ang problema kasi dyan is how we develop and train players pagka malaki ginagawang center. kung ako si MVP babayaran ko itong si Boris Diaw para magpuntang PInas at turuan ng tamang footwork and post up moves ang mga malalaking players sa bansa.

1) Is it true that FIBA has completely changed the way international hoops tournaments work?

Yes! Beginning in November 2017, basketball will take a page out of soccer’s book, and adopt a “home and away” group format to decide who goes to big tournaments such as the FIBA World Cup and the Olympics.

2) Wait they seriously decided to copy how soccer does things?

I know right? It might be the first time in recorded history “let’s do what FIFA is doing” was used un-ironically.

3) Can you give me more details on how this will work?

It starts with 16 teams in a region being placed in groups of four to battle it out (the exception being Europe, which will have 32 teams in eight groups).

Let’s use the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region as an example. After the draw in May 2017, the Philippines gets grouped together with three other countries, say, New Zealand, Qatar, and Malaysia. On November 2017, February 2018, and June 2018, we’ll play those three countries, once at home, and once on the road. The best three teams in that group will then advance to the next round of qualifications.

Let’s say Gilas, the Tall Blacks, and Qatar advance. They’ll then get paired with three other top teams from another group, for example, Japan, India, and China. Gilas’ record versus New Zealand and Qatar will carry over, and then they’ll play the three new nations on September 2018, November 2018, and February 2019. While this is all happening, another group with six other countries, is doing the same thing. The best seven Asia-Pacific teams will then qualify for the FIBA World Cup, in September 2019.

The Philippines is in Group B, along with India and Chinese Taipei.

Group A is made up of China, Jordan, and Kazakhstan, Group C has Iran, Qatar, and Iraq, while Group D is rounded out by Japan, Korea, and Thailand.

The second round will see the trios combined into larger groups of six. Teams will then play the three new squads, with their record from the previous round carrying over. The top four teams from each of the new big groups will form the field of eight for the knockout Final Phase.

At stake for the top five teams in the competition will be an additional berth for their respective sub-zones in the 2017 FIBA Asia Championship, now known as the FIBA Asia Championship, the last tournament where qualifications will be done following the old FIBA format, before the home-and-away series is implemented.

As previously reported, the Philippines will be sending a pool comprised mostly of young guns and semi-pro players.

The tournament is set for September 9 to 18 in Tehran, Iran. The Philippines won bronze in the 2014 edition of the event.

This will be a disaster in the making....doesnt look good for me....remember iran will still have the services of haddadi....the rest ilalampaso lang ang gilas cadet...kahit sabihin nyo pang kasama si kobe paras....ala tayong laban...the only team na pwede nating talunin is THAILAND....

gilas cadets will have a hard time winning against taipei and india. yes i agree. ang sure win lang dyan sa apat na groups is against thailand...assuming makakaharap natin ang thailand. i hope not but i see disaster coming.
