kanski
i am an online shopping virgin. having missed out on a shoe that i was eyeing, i am now turning to online shopping as an alternative. problem is, i am a bit skeptical. i've heard so much about amazon and it's being a legit place to purchase. i however am skeptical about all the other less known online sites offering better prices. i opened this topic hoping that those who've bought stuff via the internet would post what site did they purchase from, what did they purchase, and what was their experience. Wyld
Im a big online shopping fan because I just hate going to the malls -- too crowded. What ive learned from doing online shopping is to shop from reputable sellers. I prefer to shop directly from the brand's website instead of resellers. That way im assured that the item/s I purchase are authentic and not knock offs. I also try and browse the sites I frequently shop at to check on specials/sales or other offers (like gift with purchase or free shipping). That ends up as money saved. If you must shop in Ebay - make sure you read the seller's feedback pages to be sure that the seller is above board. Still a risk though because you never can tell with these Ebay sellers. If you live in the Philippines or outside of the US - check if the site youre shopping at ships to your location, and if they do, check how much shipping will cost. If you can find one, use a proxy service that will purchase the item for you and then ship it out to you for a fee. That might be more cost effective. Quote Link to comment
denimhead
always check the ebay sellers feedback page ... dont buy from somebody with less than 95% approval rating more often than not theyre scammers or bad sellers.. and for ebay make sure to use paypal so you can have a recourse in case the seller is a bastard .. never use wire transfers Edited May 20, 2009 by denimhead Quote Link to comment
Wyld
....and for ebay make sure to use paypal so you can have a recourse in case the seller is a bastard .. never use wire transfers of course -- how can i forget the most important rule of all. use paypal ALL THE TIME. paypall guarantees and protects your purchases so in case you receive the item or receive the wrong one or a counterfeit one, you can get your money back. there are some other online stores / sellers that take paypal too. kanski
great info guys. unfortunately, the brand i'm interested in (adidas) doesn't have the item i want on stock anymore. i tried checking out the web for it and found out that some online sellers still have the shoe in question in my size. i'm thinking, if amazon (the only on line seller i heard friends have used) still had it on stock, i'd probably give it a go. unfortunately, the the ones that have the item in my size are unknowns, at least to me. thus my apprehension. i've been introduced to johnny air cargo and i think i will course my purchase through them. and thanks to you guys, i'm reading up on paypal. now if only the other sites offered comments from past customers.. babyelephant
I've been a member (selling and mostly buying) from Ebay since 2004 and I've never had a bad experience. Just be careful all the time and use Paypal!! Also keep all of your correspondence, just in case. Quote Link to comment
alpha_male
ive been a long-time buyer over at amazon, ebay, eastbay. no problems on my end. as stated in earlier posts, always check for seller or merchant feedbacks. i usually have my items shipped initially in my brother's US address. once they're enough to fill up a balikbayan box then i have it shipped back home. there's also the option of registering with johnny air (jac), then for a fee of $6.5/lb for non-electronic items they can have it shipped back to the phils. i have yet to try registering with paypal though. thanks for the info. Bitoy
Madali lang mag-register sa Paypal. Pwede rin iregister yung credit card para doon na lang i-debit ng Paypal. Registration just took me a few minutes. Para ka lang gumawa ng new email account. I ordered for a reference book from Amazon a few years ago. 21 days lang supposedly yata yung shipping but it was taking longer so I complained to them. They sent me another one free of charge. After a few weeks of getting the book dumating yung original order. Nadoble tuloy. I was willing to send it back to Amazon at their expense (shipping) pero they just told me to keep it. Nasa akin pa yung extra book and I am just planning to donate it to UP. Quote Link to comment

kanski
just to revive this thread that i've started, i am happy to report that the shoe that started this whole odyssey for me, i saw on amazon again. so i ordered it, coursed through johnny air cargo, and received it just prior to the holidays. now all that is left for me is to see if no fraud was done in my credit card bill. i've had charges for purchases not done by i billed to my credit card and it wasn't a pleasant experience at all.
