Yes, that is if they properly typed the subtitles. If the movie has substance and is originally on a language other than what we originally understand....then it's necessary so that the story could be fully undersood and appreciated.

Yeah, using your brains the right way include exercising those cells in order for them not to die. Stretching them by using your imagination. Thinking of ways to solve one's problem without whining, etc.
