i was under the impression that energy (or the lack of it) and not virtual social networking defined the previous decade. this decade is likely about green technology. just a guess.

[Energy was certainly one the hot issues, but mainly as the decade drew to a close; nonetheless, it certainly defined the decade of the 1970's. I think biotechnology/genome project had more influence than energy in the past decade]
