I think there's a big difference between old money and new money. Old money would buy an island somewhere in Spain and develop it into a multimillion dollar real estate empire  for the other rich and famous. New Money are callous, often rude and distasteful.

Through work, dami ko nang na-meet na feeling rich, looking rich, claiming to be rich. Pero yung talagang sobrang yaman, napaka-simple mag-damit, hindi naka luxury car, yung iba nga, may crack na yung celfone! yung asal at pananalita nila, low key, not loud. dami nang lugar na napuntahan at kulturang naranasan kaya bukas ang isip, hindi sila tamad at hindi din stressed/workaholic--efficient sila without over-exerting. Isang giveaway ng mga tunay na mayaman yung kontrolado nila oras nila. Yun tipong one minute nadinig ko sila na may concert yung favorite band nila sa Tokyo, then next minute, naka book na sila. Hindi sila nagsasabi ng "punta aro after ko mag-file ne leave!"

One "sure-fire" way to determine a person's net worth is simply to look at income and expenses. Disregard all properties like house, clothes, gadgets, cars.

A person can drive an Audi and live in a posh Makati condo but if the source of income sounds ridiculous, the person is probably broke. It's well known that parents supporting their children just give a car or pay their rent but they never give cash.

pero di ako nagpapa-alipin sa pera. willing gumastos kung worth it naman pagkakagastusan.

Walang kwenta mag "looking rich" dito. If you can get people to look at you by dressing rich in HK, Japan or the US, here people will look at you AND ask to borrow money from you.

Ako rin haha.  I prefer to retire among renters in a slightly poor place.  I will rent myself a room preferably with its own full bath inside.  Nothing more than P4K a month.  I'll just live a simple, low-key life, travelling to my 2 vacation houses abroad every now and then.

I think sa school at pag me pinopormahan sa work lang uso yan.  Kasi pag nagkakaedad na, alam na rin kung sino tutuo at hindi.  Pero pag under 30s, pwede pa mag-look, feel, and claim to be rich.

I think social media has helped make people want to look rich, because of the social capital it grants. It's never sustainable though, so why bother? Hirap naman maging Xian Gaza type lol

really rich people don't care how others perceive them. feeling rich people care about how others perceive them.

It is because of the impression that wealth commands respect. Not sure if it's only a Filipino thing.
