No, Mon Fernandez was absorbed by Purefoods when it bought the Manila Beer franchise in 1988. The trade happened after the second conference or All-Filipino conference in 1988.

nope... Mon Fernandez was the franchise player of manila beer but was traded to tanduay for abet g... in 1988, mon again was traded to smb for abet guidaben.. in both trades it was alleged that mon was involved in game fixing.... abet had expressed his dismay especially in the second as he was leading the MVP race in 1988 (which mon eventually won) and the fact that his career was affected by mon's issues...

this tanduay franchise was bought by pure foods and therefore got mon Fernandez and some stalwarts of the original franchise then had gotten jerry, jolas, nelson and Alvin...

Now that you mentioned it, yes, Mon was with Tanduay already when they beat Ginebra in the 1986 All-Filipino. My bad. I remember Guidaben crying because he was traded by SMB to Purefoods after the 1988 All-Filipino conference.

Anyway, Tanduay was a bitter rival in the corporate world and in the court. That All-Filipino conference was one of the most closely-fought championship contest. I remember hoping for a Ginebra win in Game 4. Alas, the Gin Kings lost that game and the championship.

2) Ramon Fernandez for Alberto Guidaben, Part 1 (1985)

Has there been a time when the top two centers of the league have been traded for each other? It has, not just once, but twice! Let's start with the first trade when Ramon Fernandez, then a two-time MVP winner (1982 & 1984) was playing for the Manila Beer Brewmasters and rival Alberto Guidaben, the 1983 MVP, suited up for the Tanduay Rhum Makers after Crispa had disbanded at the end of the 1984 season. Both players remained the dominant slotmen in the league, but Guidaben was having the better season after having adjusted quickly with his new team. But with both teams struggling in the 3rd Conference, Manila Beer initiated the move to ship Fernandez to Tanduay for Guidaben. Although the Brewmasters ended up runner-up in that conference, Fernandez had the better of Guidaben in the succeeding season as Tanduay romped away with the first two conference titles.

What I remember was it was in the 1988 trade that Fernandez was accused of game-fixing, not in the original trade.

just an idea, for sbp's and the pea's consideration hehehehe
