photographer
Ginebra bringing in Gabe Freeman in bid to salvage campaign after Josh Powell exitFrom: Snow BaduaApril 14, 2014, 01:44 pmhttp://contents.spin.ph/image/gabe-freeman-41414.jpgGabe Freeman is a two-time PBA Best Import awardee whose last stint in the Philippines was with the San Miguel Beermen in the ABL. Jerome AscanoBARANGAY Ginebra is set to bring in former PBA Best Import awardee Gabe Freeman as a replacement for Josh Powell in a bid to salvage its campaign in the PBA Commissioner's Cup. The 6-foot-6 Freeman, according to sources, will arrive from the US on Wednesday morning to take the place of the highly touted Powell, who bid the team goodbye on Sunday after getting an offer to make the Houston Rockets' roster in time for the NBA playoffs. That should give Freeman enough time to process his papers and acclimatize in time for his debut on Sunday against Rain or Shine in a game which will determine the Gin Kings' pairing in the quarterfinal playoffs. On Sunday, Ginebra governor Robert Non said management is looking to bring in either Andre Emmett or Charles Thomas, but both apparently are not available to come in on short notice. Insiders said Ginebra also considered bringing back Dior Lowhorn, the team's import in last year's Governors Cup, but the wide-bodied import couldn't break loose from his contract in Japan. Freeman, 28, won two Best Import awards while playing for San Miguel Beer in 2009 and 2010. He also had a stint with the Philippine Patriots in the Asean Basketball League and had a short stint last year in the same league, this time with the San Miguel Beermen. Freeman's name was first floated around when Ginebra was searching for a replacement for Leon Rodgers. However, word got around then that the import was out of shape. Even if Freeman arrives on schedule on Wednesday morning, Ginebra will have to race against time to secure his license since Games and Amusement Board officials have already sent out a memo informing the public that will only be open for half a day on Wednesday. “Yun ang worry namin. Paano kung biglang mag half day ang mga opisina sa Miyerkules? Hindi makakalaro ang import sa Linggo. Multa yun. Saka kailangan naming manalo para sa seeding,” said a source. Quote Link to comment

photographer
Former Ginebra coach Rino Salazar: 'Jaworski should coach Gin Kings again'April 15, 2014, 03:59 pmhttp://contents.spin.ph/image/salazar-jaworski-41514.jpgAlthough he's mum about the messy coaching situation of the team, former Ginebra coach Rino Salazar says he believes Robert Jaworski is the perfect person to handle the team. "Sonny's record speaks for itself," he says. Jerome Ascano/ Gerry RamosHOLLYWOOD - Once a Ginebra King, always a Ginebra King. Seeing the proud franchise very close to his heart struggle in the PBA Commissioner's Cup despite assembling a formidable roster, one-time Ginebra coach Rino Salazar has issued a call for the original King to come on board again. Salazar disclosed that had he been able to talk personally to Robert Jaworski Sr., considered the heart and soul of Ginebra's original never-say-die team, during the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley II over the weekend, he would have tried his best to convince the 'Big J' to handle the team again. "Sasabihin ko sa kanya na siya na lang uli ang mag coach ng team," Salazar told Spin.ph at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas during fight week of the Pacquiao-Bradley rematch. Both Jaworski and Salazar were in Las Vegas to watch the Pacquiao fight along with another former Ginebra mainstay, Peter Aguilar, father of current Gin Kings star Japeth. The last coach to handle the team in the pre-Mark Caguioa era, Salazar said he's still in touch with the happenings around the PBA, more so with the league's most popular ballclub which is currently struggling in the mid-season tournament notwithstanding the talented roster it assembled this season. Although he's mum about the chaotic coaching situation in the team, Salazar believes Jaworski remains the perfect person to handle the team. "Sonny's record speaks for itself," said Salazar, Jaworski's longtime deputy at Ginebra who is now based in Alaska. Ginebra also briefly coached Ginebra after Jaworski's departure, leading the eighth-seeded Gin Kings to a famous upset of top-ranked Talk 'N Text in the 1999 All-Filipino semifinals behind Bal David's last-gasp game-winner. He also won a championship as head coach of Shell in the 1992 First Conference and together with Norman Black served as Jaworski's assistants in the first Philippine team made up of professional players to compete in the Asian Games. That team won the silver medal in the 1990 Asiad in Beijing, losing to China in the finals. Edited April 15, 2014 by photographer Quote Link to comment

Agent_mulder
The more he should play hardball or else ma turn - off yung mga scouts ng NBA if he continues to play softball. Final: Alaska 83 - Ginebra 73 .................. Saksakan ng malas sa shooting percentage ang Barangay sa first half coupled with kung ano ibato ng Alaska pasok. Injured ang import natin sa paa......the curse is still on. Sino kaya sa coaching staff ang may balat sa pwet. Buti nanalo ang Batang Pier giving Barangay Ginebra a free ride to the playoffs.Just in................... Unconfirmed reports say Ginebra import Josh Powell has received offer to join Houston Rockets in time for NBA playoffs Well looks like tama ang sinabi ko, pigil o ingat si Powell dahil gustong makabalik sa NBA It's all over the sports news feeds. Powell is heading to Houston. SINO. BA. NAMAN. KASING. ABNORMAL. NA MEMBER. NG. GINEBRA. COACHING. STAFF. ANG KUMUHA KAY. POWELL???? Sino naman nagsabing member lang? Lahat sila either abnormal or BOBO!!!!! O ngayon!?!?! k*ll mentality?!?!?! Sayang talaga.... Alam nyo pinakamagandang fit sana sa Ginebra si dollard....at the expense lang ni ellis.....dko alam bakit nde nascout ng gins si dollard....si rodgers pa pinili.... di ko masisi ang management for bringing what they thought was a a-lister of an import.. heck they spent money on that guy... pero sana they should have learned their lesson... 2nd time na to na they brought in a guy na maganda ang NBA experience only to fail their fan base... na miss ko tuloy yung dating agent ng gins na si sam unera.... i think he brought in hacket, briggs, matthews, cole, davis, ward, waller etc... baka daw i tap ng ginebra yung import na tinitingnan nila for the 3rd conference.... emett ba yun? di ba pwedeng i tap nila si dollard tutal wala na ang barako bull?... parang loaned import tulad nung ginawa nila ke chambers at parks nung me min-tourney ang pba... They should have opt for Freeman in the first place instead of Powell, 'di naman kasi guarantee na pag galing ng NBA ang isang import mag click s'ya sa PBA eh, in the end si Freeman din pala ang kukunin nila, baka nanalo pa sila against alaska kung si Freeman ang kinuha nila eh, ang hina na yata ng agent ng Ginebra ngayon, 'di gaya ni Sam Unera noon na talagang magagaling na imports ang nakukuha para sa Ginebra.... http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/ginebra-orphaned-as-import-josh-powell-gets-call-up-from-houston-rockets-in-time-for-nba-playoffs-v02 Hayop din ang malas natin sa import: Non said they asked Powell if he could play in the second half and the former Laker suggested to play possibly for two minutes.“Sabi niya I’ll try first two minutes in the second half. Jerome AscanoAFTER a hectic first day in Manila, Gabe Freeman has received the all clear and is ready to go for Barangay Ginebra. The two-time Best Import awardee had a whirlwind day after arriving in a 3:40 a.m. flight from Phoenix, Arizona, joining Ginebra in a one-and-a-half-hour practice at Green Meadows before leaving in a huff to take care of his working visa and professional license. At the end of the day, Ginebra team governor Robert Non said Freeman is eligible and ready to make his return to the pro league on Sunday against Rain or Shine as a replacement for Josh Powell, who opted out of his contract with the Kings to take up an offer to join the Houston Rockets in the NBA. “He’ll be ready by Sunday,” said Non. The 28-year-old basketball journeyman had to be whisked out of the practice venue to comply with the basic requirements from the BID (Bureau of Immigration and Deportation) as well as the Games and Amusement Board before the two offices close for the Holy Week break. “Yung basic requirements ng import like BID, GAB and the special working permit naayos na naman today,” Non told Spin.ph. Freeman, who will be officially measured at the PBA office on Saturday, 1 p.m., is no stranger to PBA fans, having played for the San Miguel Beermen in the 2009 and 2010 Fiesta Conference. He led San Miguel to the 2009 PBA title and played seven games for the Barako Bull in 2012. Freeman owns PBA career averages 21.1 points, 16.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 60 games. He also suited up for the Philippine Patriots and later on, with San Miguel Beer in the regional Asean Basketball League in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Quote Link to comment

RED2018
Gabe no doubt is a hard nose player with a lot of intensity and winning attitude. But someone 'whispers' he's been out of competitive games. You see, a talented player is a talented player alright, kaya di masyado mahahalata sa practices at scrimmages ang pagiging out of competitive games. But he can surely gain back his real form. Sana lang hindi pa too late... Edited April 20, 2014 by artedpro Quote Link to comment
