Free-agent RR Garcia not losing hope while in TNT limbo

 

RR Garcia has not played a single game for the past six months, but he's not losing hope.

The former Far Eastern University star is completely healthy, yet hasn't been activated this season by the TNT KaTropa under New Zealander consultant and de facto coach Mark Dickel who also has told him not to report to practice.

The long wait is a bit more bearable these days since Garcia, an unrestricted free agent, still receives his salary from TNT. But the renumeration will stop when his current contract expires on

 

Still, the former UAAP MVP said the desire to play is greater than his wish to sign a new contract.

“Sa akin naman, hindi ko naman kailangan ‘yun,” said Garcia, referring to his salary, in an interview with SPIN.ph. “Kailangan ko rin maglaro. Nami-miss ko na nga maglaro. Gusto ko na nga maglaro.”

 

Sources said Garcia’s situation was no different to that of TNT teammate Jericho Cruz, who hasn't been activated since news leaked months ago that he was to be part of a three-team trade that would bring rookie Bobby Ray Parks to Meralco.

Like Cruz, the 29-year-old Garcia, the sources added, was told to no longer attend TNT practice, without the benefit of an explanation.

Garcia neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, saying he is leaving his fate in the hands of TNT officials. For now all he can focus on is trying to be in the best shape possible in preparation for a call-up.

“Kundisyon naman ako. Araw-araw, workout ako. Siyempre, maninibago ako kapag naglaro ako. Parang balik rookie ako nun,” said Garcia.

“Maraming teams na kailangan ng point guard ngayon eh. Kaya nga nagpapakundisyon ako. Naghihintay lang ako ng tawag,” said Garcia.

 

Even with hopes dimming, the sixth pick overall of GlobalPort in the 2013 PBA draft said his priority is still to sign up with a PBA team once his current contract ends.

“Priority ko pa rin mag-PBA," said Garcia.

Mabigat yung dalawang laban ng Ginebra this week against TNT and SMB.. Maka-isa man lang dyan ok na. Delikado pa sila sa standing medyo dikit2x.. Nakabuwelo na yung blackwater at Northport tpos nasa baba pa yung SMB at Hotshots..
