Good Guide for todays draft

Top-heavy draft? Take a look at the depth chart at each position in this batch of PBA rookie hopefuls

WITH Christian Standhardinger and Kiefer Ravena hearing their names get called within the first two picks as sure as the sun to rise on Sunday, the mystery starts at No. 3 in the PBA Rookie Draft at Robinsons Place Manila.

After San Miguel Beer and NLEX make their selections with the Nos. 1 and 2 picks, respectively, Blackwater's selection remains a wildcard with the third overall pick.

Once that’s answered, the next question is the depth of this draft class.

Raymar Jose, Jason Perkins, and Jeron Teng are expected to go after Standhardinger and Ravena and round out the Top Five of the first round in what looks like a top-heavy draft.

After that, questions abound on the quality of this year's rookie class.

The picks at the bottom half of the first round, though, are still also good enough to get you players who can make an immediate impact – like Lervin Flores, Robbie Herndon, Rey Nambatac, Davon Potts, Julian Sargent, Sidney Onwubere, and Jett Manuel.

The first three to five picks in the second round can likewise yield serviceable cagers with beanpole Jebb Bulawan, scorer Louie Vigil, and stocky big man Joseph Gabayni expected to lead the

The engineer is now a King: ‘Ginhinyero’ Jett Manuel joins the Barangay

Shortly after his name was called, a portion of the huge crowd that had gathered at the activity area started the familiar “Gi-ne-bra!” chant, underscoring the pressure that comes with playing for this storied franchise. It’s a burden not lost on Manuel.

Saw some highlights of Jett Manuel in his UAAP days.. parang James Yap ang galawan.. and with Scottie and LA in Point spot.. magandang SG ito kc gunner tlga.. Tpos may Ferrer/JDV sa wings.. ganda ng line up nxt season

Para ding Jeff Chan (decent threes and slashing lay-ups) with better defense...

After what transpired sa Rookie-draft, the powerhouse SMB just became even stronger. It seems like no other teams, save for Ginebra, can match the towers of SMB - Fajardo and Standhardinger. Ginebra have Slaughter and Japet Aguilar.

This only made the PBA a little more boring.

Malamang anak ni Elmer Cabahug si Elmer Cabahug. The Elmer Cabahug who was Alaska's outside sniper in the late 80s.

Anak nga n'ya, nasa venue si Boy Cabahug kahapon....

Pucha, nung time na na-draft nila si Tautuaa then ibang team ang kumuha ke Troy Rosario at biglang napunta si Rosario sa tnt ok lang, tapos ngayong hindi sa kanila ang first pick ngawa sila, katawa na lang, obviously sourgrapes pano 'di nila nakuha si CS.

conratulations engr. jett manuel. welcome to ginebra san miguel. your gungho style of play during your UP days will certainly be of good use to the team.

Napanuod ko sa Gilas si Manuel noon, gutsy player, hindi takot sumalaksak sa loob kahit malaki ang kalaban, hope he can contribute to the team. Also, akala ko isa kina Pots o Sargent ang kukunin nila dahil available pa, nagulat ako na they opt for Manuel, me nakita siguro sila d'yan that makes them passed-up on those 2 players. Sana shooter din 'yung Elmer Cabahug gaya ng tatay n'ya, tingin ko Ginebra got what they need sa draft, a shooter and hopefully 2 shooters, paghahanda na 'yan sa retirement ni Jay-Jay at MC47 might follow suit by the end of next season....

THE 'last ride' finally came for the Fast and Furious.

Jayjay Helterbrand is set to retire from the professional basketball, ending a long partnership with Mark Caguioa at Barangay Ginebra.

The 41-year-old Helterbrand announced his decision on CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk on Monday morning, putting an end to a fruitful 17-year career that saw him win six championships and a league MVP.

“I’ve had a great career. I have no regrets whatsoever,” Helterbrand said. “I think this is the perfect time for me to hang it up, and on my own terms. I don’t want to retire from basketball because of injuries.
