BARANGAY Ginebra turns back the hands of time on Sunday when it dons retro jersey to honor what is considered the team that best exemplified the franchise's 'never-say-die' spirit.

 

The Kings will be wearing the club's 1991 playing jersey when they go up against the Meralco Bolts in the main game of the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.

"We will use retro jerseys tomorrow (Saturday) to honor the 91 team," said Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

That 91 Ginebra team of charismatic playing-coach Robert Jaworski is best remembered as the first team in league history to come back from a 1-3 deficit to beat Formula Shell for the First Conference crown.

Tough-playing guard Rudy Distrito cemented his status in Ginebra lore when he nailed the fadeaway, game-winning baseline jumper in the Game Seven win, 104-102, to cap the historic comeback.

Twenty six years later, the Ginebra jersey was recently re-launched as part of the team's Ganado Classics: A Decade of Jersey Collection.
