Great scouting and preparation plus flawless execution...did it for BGK vs SMB

 

Downside is hindi pa 100% si JunMar and Tubid...and SMB's import get into foul trouble very early in the game

 

 

I think getting the import out of sync,leading to early foul trouble, was part of the gameplan... i saw cone do that to ginebra imports nung nasa alaska pa sya...

 

I was thinking before the game that the gins will fall to their usual flaws... la being defended well by ross... 3s not being defended well... ellis missing... and the gins missings 3s as well...

 

They did a fantastic job...execution was crisp... defense was flawless, ang layo ng smb sa average nila... ellis shot well... and as a bonus, they were able to hit some 3s almost negating the 3s of smb....

 

I hope they can do it again sa Meralco...

 

Nahirapan din si Wilkerson sa twin towers ng Ginebra, 'yung ibang teams mataas nga ang imports pero after ng import wala nang local na nasa 6'8 pataas, magaling din talaga ang import ng smb, kaya natural natuwa ako noong na-foul trouble na s'ya

chief baka nasermonan ni coach tim honestly ellis does not have to be spectacular...all he has to do is to be consistent.

 

on another note, importante din talaga pag pumapasok ang 3s. sol and ellis had a couple of 3s, scottie and LA i think had one each. bumubuka yung ilalim. as for othyus, consistent pa din ang laro at masipag.

 

natuwa naman ako at pinagbigyan ni coach tim yung mga sigaw ng fans na makitang magkasama sa court yung fast and furious.

 

 

sana si Ellis ganyan ang laro na walang hesitation tumira at mabilis sa depensa kse pag ganyan ang laro nya malamang sya na ang next Ping ng Ginebra .....

 

 

mukhang natauhan si Ellis, lalo na yung rumor na iti trade siya sa NLEX for Sean Anthony. sana lang maging consistent siya at stay aggressive.

 

Ellis played excellent basketball against smb, walang takot sumalaksak, maski noong last few seconds noong first o second quarter yata 'yun sumalaksak s'ya maski si Wilkerson ang sumabay sa kanya, he just needs to be consistent and not hesitate in taking the shots kung open, sabi nga panira na wag na ipasa

napangiti na lang ako nung nakita ko tong scene na to kagabi. sobrang nostalgic lang.

 

in other news pala, as of now, #2 na ang Ginebra sa next draft picking. Sana eh magpadraft si RayRay para sa atin ang punta ni Kiefer.

 

Lastly... Helterbrand signed a contract extension. 3 years. At may iniinda palang injury ito sa balikat, explaining the almost zero playing time.

Dapat 1 year o 2 years at the most lang, salamat sa mga championships na naipanalo ng The Fast and The Furious pero kailangan din naman mag-move on ng team para maging competitive, it'll be nice for them to retire as Ginebra players and of course to win another ring before finally retiring

I love to see Mark and JJ to be part of Ginebra coaching staff after their retirement. malaki din ang naging contributions nila for the team like championships and MVP awards. Plus they are Franchise players, dito sila sa Gins nag start, dito din magtatapos ang career nila sa basketball. alisin na lang sana sina Richard Del Rosario, Abuda at Olsen. Sana magkaroon naman ng Ginebra players ang coaching staff.

Tim Cone thinks Jayjay Helterbrand can play beyond 40

 

Jayjay Helterbrand is turning 40 this October, but Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone is convinced that the veteran Kings guard can still compete at a high level for another 2 years.

 

Helterbrand though has been buried deep in the bench, having to play behind starting playmaker LA Tenorio and rookie Scottie Thompson.

The other half of Ginebras once famed Fast and Furious backcourt has only played 5 games in the ongoing Oppo-PBA Commissioners Cup, averaging 0.4 point, 0.4 rebound and 0.6 assist in just 6.6 minutes.

But the American coach felt the six-foot playmaker is a much better shooter this season compared to his early years with the leagues most popular team.

Hes quick, hes even become a better shooter now than early in his career. He may not be as quick as going to the basket, but hes smart, plays the game at a high IQ level so cud he play another year or 2, Cone told FOX Sports.

I think he could even play through his 40s, which is unusual for guards because hes done a great job taking care of his body, he added.

The one-time PBA MVPs contract is set to expire at the end of the season and Cone is uncertain if Ginebras long-time point guard is willing to return next year.

But should Helterbrand elect to return, the leagues multi-titled coach believes hell still be able to contribute.

Thats (retirement or returning next season) gonna be up to him (Helterbrand). But his body is good and hes still healthy and hes quick, Cone pointed out.

The 58-year-old Cone said he respects Helterbrand for his commitment to the game, being 1 of the 1st players to arrive in practice, working out and taking good care of his body.

Even if hes not getting a lot of minutes, hes working out, taking care of his body. i think Jays very capable of extending his career but its really up to him, on how much time he wants to devote he said.

But thats really the key for older players, if they can take care of their bodies, then, they can extend their careers. But if they get lazy and be the same way they were in their 20s, it aint gonna work for them.

Helterbrand and pal Mark Caguioa are the only remaining holdovers from the Ginebra squad that won the franchises last PBA championship during the 2008 Fiesta Conference.

The 39-year-old Ginebra guard was a 2-time Mythical 1st Team member, 2-time Best Player and Finals MVP during the 2007 Philippine Cup. - By Richard Dy

I think coach tim is being generous enough. Obviously, the fast and the furious would like to taste a championship again together before they retire. And coach tim wants to give them maybe at least one. It can be done.
