@bubuy: That's the thing with closers. It doesn't matter which team he plays as long as he's the chosen one to do it. We have 162 games of non-stop baseball. We already played a quarter of 'em, and Capps is almost in double-digits. Even with the firesale, he should finish with 30+ saves as long as he can stay healthy and efficient.

I know you'll bring up Hoffman's case right now, but if I were the owner, I would wait it out because he's still the closer. He's not blowing a lot of save opps. (2 BS, I presume). The main concern for a Hoffman owner is the age, not the stuff. Pero kapag si Heath Bell na ang closer dito, ayawan na kay Trevor.

Evil Empire - Good decision picking Pujols as the 1st-rounder even with all the injury talks. He still hits it out of the park even with that injury; imagine if he's fully healthy? Certainly capable of a 50-HR season. Markakis, Kinsler and Mike Young are good parts of his core as they bring 5-tool skills to the Empire's table. If Jay Bruce enters the fray, it's showtime!

The franchise is keen on keeping most of its batters but some of 'em aren't completely secure to stay. Nick Swisher (acquired from A-Team for 3B Beltre) is struggling right now, but he's a strong 2nd-half guy and shall bounce back to give a massive contribution on the batting cats. With his sweet position eligibility, it would be hard to let this guy go. Hank Blalock (yup, another Ranger) is in the DL and might have lost his swagger as a hitter. Raul Ibanez has a history of being inconsistent. Butler has a lot of upside but kinda underperforming. Of all the remaining batters, Pudge the catcher seems to be the legit candidate to stay, given the position is not that deep as well.

As for the pitching, the Empire had publicly stated its strategy to surround "gyroball specialist" Dice-K (franchise pitcher for years to come) but haven't produced excellent results, although it's decent enough to compete. The closers are money, of course with K-Rod The Man leading their relief pitching corps and backed by the Ageless Wonder, Mr. Hoffman. The SPs are dicey, led by.. Dice-K! Aaron Laffey from the Tribe is a promising young pitcher. Bay Area hurlers Eveland (OAK) and Sanchez (SF) ain't bad, either. Galarraga is obviously a short-term solution. But the others are not helping the cause.. yup, that includes Carlos "Mr. Excitement" Silva.

For them to compete this year, gotta find a legit no.2 starter and more importantly, a third baseman to spell Blalock or occupy the DH spot.

The best thing about this franchise? It has tons of prospects. It has a lot that it might spare one for each other team in this dynasty league. The most intriguing ones are Daric Barton who plays everyday at 1B for the A's and 17-year-old Angel Villalona who plays 3B at the minors for the Giants. The latter is said to have tremendous power that some scouts actually compare him to... their franchise hitter (Pujols).

didnt really pick him, sort of.. he fell into my lap with the 5th pick.. that was amazing considering this is keepers..

I was expecting Pujols to slip further because of his ironman ways, unprioritizing his health just to continue playing every day. completely admirable trait for any athlete but him being a star player, he should at least think about his team's future too...

I dunno why but each time I see Volkie's pic, I remember Speedy.

edit:

I know newbies will try their darndest to gain some cred but I'm with cheese here, those f#&kers in the sports threads are throwing their weight around like damn fools.

hehe, I thought I'm the only one getting tired of the bandwagonning "witty" cracks and "old man-type wise words" that are starting to liter almost all the basketball related threads there...

they're too reliant in the law of averages, throw in a lot of posts there and maybe 1 or 2 would accidentally make sense...

Lakas ni volkie.. 12 Ks.. Naka-exercise na yung umpire kaka-punchout ah!

Sige ayos lang, pagdating ng football at basketball, ako naman ang mang-hihingi ng ANALysis na yan! hehe..

Fukudome is my Homey - The foundation of this team starts with Grady "5-tool king" Sizemore and super lefty Johan Santana. Sizemore leads a loaded OF cast alongside Juan Pierre, namesake sensation Kosuke Fukudome and his real "hommie", Pat the bat! The last two OFs who were drafted in the middle rounds of this dynasty draft are doing an awesome job that they actually turned into a bargain. 1B Adrian Gonzalez is also a legit guy to remain for years to come. He's on pace for another 30-HR season which cements his place among the elite first basemen. Underrated studs Iwamura, Stephen Drew and Mark Reynolds are pleasant surprises.

The only problem lies with the catcher position. Yadier is only a short-term solution, probably shorter than your thumb. Derek Jeter is struggling; which is not good as he's actually the "team captain" here! This is why S-Drew makes sense here. Howie Kendrick is glass, although he might be the future 2-bagger. Has to find some space for rookie David Murphy (probably DH) or dangle him as a trade bait.

On the other hand, his solid pitching holds one of the best 1-2 punch aces in the league with Santana and fellow lefty Scott Kazmir; with another rookie phenom Johnny Cueto anchoring the middle of the rotation. His back-end of the rotation is actually better than most teams with Jair "mother's soap" Jurrjens, another Jap import Hiroki Kuroda and Royals future ace Luke Hochevar. It also helps to have two of the best closers in the league with Papelbon & Valverde.

Consig Red Sox - Speed kills! Chase Utley's the man here alongside Red Sox favorite Big Papi. His speedy outfielders Ellsbury, Taveras and draft sleeper Carlos Gomez are paying good dividends for what should be a bright future in the outfield. They're versatile, too (Ellsbury and Gomez are both LF/CF/RF eligible). Bengie Molina is currently delivering at the C slot. They're currently manufacturing R, RBI and SB's and should continue that the rest of the way.

But they gotta have TULO back. The franchise shortstop is shelved until the All-Star Break and evidently, there is no replacement for him. (check his lineup for today, it's freakin' empty). No wonder he's desperate for Tulo. Andy LaRoche might not be the long-term solution at 3B.

They also possess a lethal 1-2 combo; with franchise ace Cole "the Camel" Hamels and Justin V. If Joba becomes a starter and Matt Cain heats up, you're looking at a jaw-dropping rotation that resembles a wall for everyone to bump on. Soria and Broxton are good relief pitchers. Soria is the present, Broxton for the future. But he has his favorite guy, Joe Blow. You know what that means, right?

Mutts With Bats - This one's led by Ryan "a-hit-is-a-blessing" Howard. He's backed up by excellent speedsters Figgins, wonder FA pick-up Ryan Theriot and Carl Crawford. Acquiring Hunter Pence from a trade is a very good acquisition as he improved a lot on his power and some additional speed. Now holds one of the best outfield groups in the league, with Hideki Matsui and Aaron Rowand providing some more run support.

Aramis Ramirez is doing splendid so far at DH, but can he stay healthy? If he does, this team will contend and sky's the limit for them. Jason Varitek is not getting young although he's decent so far, with Chris Iannetta waiting in the wings. Rolen is another 3B whose health is questionable as well.

On his pitching side, Lackey is very good; not "lacking" and he's money as your ace! But the rest of the rotation has to be solidified. Sinkerballer Carmona is another good acquisition, but he's inconsistent right now. Nevertheless, he should be the one to be kept among the given SPs. AJ Burnett will give you K's and he still does up to now, but like your 3B, have to cross fingers for his health. Derek Lowe and Ollie Perez have to step it up. Danny Cabrera is a pleasant surprise from the Orioles. Now he's the one to watch; and if continues his ongoing success, his under-the-radar rotation will be noticed.

The closers are not bad with Nats relievers Rauch and Chad Cordero, and Rays oldie-but-goodie Percival. Manny Parra is the future, but will he close?

^

lemme qualify that then, a retarded and lame young man's game.

and actually, for every bad Allas fan, there's four vultures wearing purple and gold and 3 donning green so... hahaha!

that said, I got nothing but respect for the "real" fans and the teams...it's those casual "super gatong" leeches that have made the whole thing ugly.

^ain't it now obvious we're from different sides of the fence here but we're griping about the same thing...

I guess nothing else left to do there but wait out those fairweather fans/hecklers and wait for the light of day to once again shine there...

one last parting shot, damn you Cuban for encouraging this kind of fanaticism!
