Jongkers
That place is swarming with pros that I won't touch with a 20-foot pole. Yes, I've told him that, doc.His school schedule forces him to sleep by 9pm so it's good. It's the afternoon naps that he hates though; his view is that he loses time to play. Now, he's looking forward to the baseball glove that Santa will give him this Christmas. And he wants to transfer to a school which has a baseball field. Quote Link to comment

gift_of_game
must be tough to be F-Rod...you set the single-season saves record on your contract year and can't even get yourself the kind of deal that you deserve. Quote Link to comment
consiglieri
uhm....does this mean that owners dont give a premium on saves? hell....these are your CLOSERS.... tough as nails pressure packed situation guys.. why you no love Quote Link to comment
agentjackbauer
Of course owners put premium on saves. They're just not willing to give K-Rod the huge (and long-term) contract he wants. He is not a closer with upside kasi. If anything else, pababa na sya (despite breaking the single-season saves record). Quote Link to comment
gift_of_game
F-Rod's looking for a 5-year, 75 mil payday. the Mets, who desperately need a closer, propped 25 for 2 with an option for a third year. teams are looking to save money. can't really blame them. it's a very big if---but if you can find a younger guy, groom him for the role and pay him a lot less---that's not a bad option there at all. kingsville
how about if they give him Coco Cordero-type of a deal? (close to 4yr, $47 mil) Mas OK lang talaga yung galing sa farm system. Get that guy and ready to groom him for the role. and there u go! Quote Link to comment
gift_of_game
they can give him that but will he take it? the Mets set the floor and that deal you propped could very well be the ceiling---or close to it. it's practically a baratillo market for closers. Quote Link to comment
Jongkers
K-Rod's problem, I think, is that there are too many tier-2 closers available. As much as the Mets are desperate for a closer, they won't give him the type of contract that he wants.I wont be surprised if the Mets end up with either Hoffman or Fuentes. Or even Putz! There's also the view that K-Rod is past his prime and that is evidenced by his peripherals. The 62 saves are there, yes, but the other stats around it are not very impressive. That's one more reason why he lost in the Cy Young race (not to mention, of course, that Cliff Lee and Halladay both had phenomenal seasons.) He'll have to settle for much less, I suppose. BTW, I hope Bradley ends up in Tampa.. hitting third ahead of Longoria! Woohoo! :thumbsupsmiley: Quote Link to comment
