gift_of_game
and well, they could also argue that if you switched them up, the Phils probably would've won it anyway. if anything, Fat Albert could've hit .400 in that park. (200 K's = only good for pitchers.) Quote Link to comment
gift_of_game
huwaat?a freakin' jockey won the AL MVP?!?!?! Quote Link to comment
gift_of_game
guess this is our cue to feel warm all over and cheer for the little guy... c'mon now, this is even more atrocious than Pujols winning the NL MVP.doesn't the award mean anything anymore? Quote Link to comment
bubuy
i cant believe hamilton placed 7th.. and yeah, pujols was the best player sans the playoffs.. his stats compiled even had a DL stint and yet he wasnt that too far off howard's.. OPS wasnt even close.. if he was hitting in that philly playground and with that supporting cast, he'd even have more.. and he's actually younger, more suitable for keeper leagues.. gift_of_game
guess it's a marketing thing...the novelty candidate from the more popular ballclub pulled it off. Quote Link to comment

bubuy
too bad kinsler had season ending sports hernia injury, he was on an MVP type season too.. btw doc, is there a difference between a sports hernia and a regular hernia? Quote Link to comment
kingsville
congrats to master B, with his franchise playa winning the NL MVP plum.(edit) and ajb na rin for the surprising AL MVP award. Jongks, pwede na siguro mag-winter meetings pero walang trade talks.. haha! I'm actually more shocked with CC factoring in the MVP race.di ba pang-Cy Young awards lang yun? gift_of_game
too bad kinsler had season ending sports hernia injury, he was on an MVP type season too.. btw doc, is there a difference between a sports hernia and a regular hernia? good question. I looked it up master B and while the mechanism of injury is more or less similar (weakening of the muscles and tendons of the lower abdominal wall), it's a bit different since...>it's typically seen among competitive athletes (though there are no exact figures)>the presentation is varied (pain during sports movements, particularly hip extension, and twisting and turning; also pain during coughing/sneezing) >typically with no palpable hernia (and there are some who would argue that hernia is a misnomer)>the anatomic injury/lesion would vary from patient to patient (tendon tear, muscle or nerve entrapment etc.)>the injury tends to linger and the definitive treatment is surgical>the recovery rate is quite good for competitive athletes (65 to 90 percent) Quote Link to comment

gift_of_game
^guess they're just adhering to the athlete-warrior code (no pain/no gain etc.)...and he probably got a shot before coming back, haha! Quote Link to comment
denimhead
when Howard won in 06 .. pujols said "I see it this way: Someone who doesn't take his team to the playoffs doesn't deserve to win the MVP." Quote Link to comment
