malivogueako
nakakatulong ba ang pagiging CFA pag maglalaro ka na sa stock market??? I think stock market is some sort of gamble, so basically konti lang magagamit mo sa pinag-aralan mo when you are going to play in the market. CFA i think is puro theoritical how to compute but i think that shouldn't be the case. Im not sure though. Please rebut my statements for those who disagree. nakakatulong po ba? thanks Quote Link to comment

malivogueako
It will help you trade in stocks but it is no guarantee you will be successful. thanks for the confirmation. yeah i think even if you're a CFA there's no really guarantee. I mean, even the CFAs in the leading brokerage houses cannot make a winning recommendation. I'm using a certain stockbroker and most of the time they're recommending some stocks for us, customers, to buy but darn, their recommended buy is not a "good" buy. Most of the time, they suck at their recommendations. 90% of their recos failed. Im not saying CFA is completely useless but in my opinion, the reality is that those who can get the firsthand infos in companies, those who can predict the future, and those are extremely lucky are the winners of the stock market. Not those who extensively studied how to calculate certain indicators. Just my two cents Edited July 1, 2010 by malivogueako Quote Link to comment
danibbler
Yeah, even if you do have your CFA it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to choose the stocks that are going to zoom up in value. As an individual investor you're much better off investing in index ETFs. That being said, I do own some Apple stock from quite a few years back. Yay! Quote Link to comment

A CFA is trained to be proficient in the fundamentals. As such they may recommend a Target Price based on valuation and recommend a buy below the TP. However it would definitely be hard to bottom fish. Quote Link to comment
swami
How about the PSE Certified Securities Specialist course? http://www.pse.com.ph/html/NewsRoom/pdf/Marketing%20Poster_PSE-UST%20CCPED%20CCSC.pdf I don't think i would venture to try a different career for myself. I just would like to invest in the stock market, without being totally clueless about it, or worse, being totally dependent on stock brokers who, more often than not, are mere salesmen eager to sell the stocks of companies who induced them to sell their stocks.
