PimpDadi
Best nation in basketball is a tie between the Philippines and Lithuania (at least in Vinlus) Sa Pinas bawat barangay may basketball court and 85% of males can shoot and dribble but 99% knows the game. Proof? - what kind of country would elect former basketball players as mayors, vice mayors or councilors? We even sent two pros in the Senate! Even a referee Tito Varela one an election at some point It is just part of Pinoy culture.Of all the countries in Europe, only Lithuania has a basketball court in every village. They also know the game. You will have to wonder how a small country almost beat the USA Dream Team in the semifinals of the Olympics. They were the first team that proved that USA is not that dominant and they did not even have the legendary Sarunas or even the contemporary Zydrunas Ilgauskas or Darius Songaila. These former Soviet republic was a perrennial source of Olympians for the once proud giant USSR.When its World Cup season, almost all the Europeans talk about it and enjoy sharing their insights with my singaporean and Korean colleagues. In a European conference, I was surprised when a diminutive Lithuanian approached me and asked me if only the two of us were out of place in the sports bar. We talked about X and O's of the game and laughed at the other Europeans after the soccer game ended in a draw zero-zero. I was just happy none of that ever happens in hoops :thumbsupsmiley: Quote Link to comment
Nash35
i think USA pa din pag dating sa basketball..... Quote Link to comment

wuts
disregard natin afro-american player.. for example sa USA (stockton, bird, hinrich, jayson williams, mark price, chris mullin, dan majerle.. syet wala na akong maisip na magaling na puti).. Again, which country is the best in baskeball? note: im not a racist or something.. hehe.. Quote Link to comment
ninjakidpower
Technically it's still the US. They're the best in attacking the rim, transition baskets, and defense. The Olympics is a good gauge pero it's really hard to put a collection of talents altogether and make them functional. Second to me is Argentina and Spain. They play smart and tough. Recently nagiging athletic na rin sila. Quote Link to comment
pidginpoker
argentina, ibang iba ang team work, no show, just game on Quote Link to comment
pits_of_jairo
Pinas! kahit maliliit, you can see the passion for the game, and basketball courts every where in the Philippines is a proof of it... But for real, USA pa rin syempre. They were like the innovators and trend setters for basketball. Quote Link to comment
Vegasboy32
A team lead by lebron james and melo anthony were not able to bring Team USA to the Finals of the FIBA World Championship Tournament. This year's team was able to make it to the Championship. The last time this happened was in 1994. I hope they bring the crown tomorrow. This topic is misleading. Ang pinaguusapan ba dito kung saan country sikat ang basketball? Of course US pa rin. Kahit high school selection nila kayang tambakan ang All Star Selection natin sa PBA. Quote Link to comment
Vegasboy32
Congrats to Team USA. Quote Link to comment
junix
with their victory at the FIBA it has to be USA "B-Team" (?) for the moment Quote Link to comment

Vegasboy32
We have to consider that teams from Europe and latin america have been playing together as a team for about 6 to 8 years already. While this current team from the US was just assembled about two months ago. I have to give credit to Coach K and his coaching staff for making the necessary adjustments in their lineup. They had to go small in order to win again. With this victory, The US and Britain are the only ones that have clinched a spot in the next Olympic games. Quote Link to comment
complicated8
The defense should have concentrated on KD. Let the other members of team USA beat them. Congrats, USA. Just wish that the other countries sent their best and gave their countries a better fighting chance. Dirk, Gasol, TP, Manu, others didn't play. Is it possible here? Mukha kasing hilaw na hilaw pa rin kasi ang Smart Gilas to compete with other Asian powerhouse even with the help of naturalized players. Coach Toro may be the most brilliant coach since Ron Jacobs but I still believe the formation of a competetive national team needs the help of everybody, including PBA. Dito pa lang dapat may teamwork na. As long as greed, commercialism and indifference rules in our midst, our basketball program, same with our country, wont go somewhere. Yung Iran kahit may commercial league sila, nakuha pa ring hiramin ni Coach T sina Hadadi and Co. which made his plan to dominate Asian basketball possible. Quote Link to comment
