Georgy Zhukov (1896-1974) is considered one of the most famous Russian generals of World War II: 
 
Military career
Zhukov was a Soviet Marshal and the most important military commander of the war. He was a key figure in the defense of Leningrad, Moscow, and Stalingrad. His victory at Kursk forced the German retreat that led to the Red Army's entry into Berlin. Zhukov's men raised the Soviet flag over the Reichstag.
