uaeboy25
Congrats nga pala sa Azkals Azkals? win 10th top soccer story of Sports Illustrated MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals’ quarterfinal victory over Vietnam in the 2010 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup made it to Sports Illustrated’s Top 10 soccer stories this year. The Azkals' 2-0 win over Vietnam early this month is ranked No. 10 on the list compiled by Sports Illustrated columnist Georgina Turner. “This year's tournament produced arguably the biggest upset in its history: Defending champion and federation powerhouse Vietnam lost 2-0 to the Philippines, ranked 151st in the world and without so much as a point off Vietnam in nearly 20 years,” Turner said in her column “Inside Soccer”. The Azkals defeated Vietnam in front of 40,000 Vietnamese spectators at the My Dinh National Stadium on December 5. Chris Greatwich scored the opening goal for the Azkals in the 38th minute. This was followed by Phil Younghusband’s precision strike at close range with 10 minutes remaining. The victory made the Azkals instant celebrities in basketball-crazy Philippines. It also sent Vietnam’s Portuguese coach Henrique Calisto fuming mad over the Philippines’ defensive style of play. "If the Philippines think they can win playing that way then my dear, poor, poor football in this region," he said in an interview published on the tournament's official website. The Philippines went on to score a draw against Myanmar and seize a semifinals slot. The Azkals, however, failed to advance into the Suzuki Cup finals after bowing to Indonesia in two semifinal games. Quote Link to comment
_eRon_
dapat may local league tayo para tuloy ang improvement natin pero maganda din na ang mga local or international based pinoy players ay makapaglaro sa ibang leagues dahil matutulungan silang ma-raise ang game nila by playing with the best possible competition.. kung may local league, they should pursue recruiting not only pinoy players, pati dapat foreign players makapaglaro para iimprove ang players natin skill wise.. get the best coaches & staff para maganda din ang skills training, nutrition and conditioning.. maganda ang boxing day games sa EPL: chelsea at arsenal & manutd at sunderland..go red devils! i hope we finish the year still top of the league Quote Link to comment

RER
edi wala tayong na produce na mga bagong talents at wala din magiging substantial financial backing. hanggat wala tayong sariliing liga walang future ang philippine footballYounghusband and Greatwich is not a product of Local League. Anyway ok na din magkaroon, basta wag nilang gagayahin ang PBA. Dapat kasama sa calendar ng local league ang international competition. Saka obligadong magpadala ng representatives. teio
marketing, logistics, and ROI are the things that hamper us from having a proper football league. at s'yempre, politics! although p'wede naman tayong kumuha ng pages mula sa ibang countries. say kung prob ang logistics, why not have luzon and vis-min divisions. tapos cities will just do a little retrofitting of their track or stadium and field in teams that are composed of local schoolboys and if they can afford them, big university/college players or, ehem, imports (dami ex-pats dito). para lang maumpisan, 8 to 12 teams per division until eventually mag-grow and be something of the tiered system tulad sa ibang bansa. for sure, magiging hotly contested ang mga laban sa visayas. bacolod vs. iloilo? cebu vs. dumaguete? eh paano kaya sa luzon kung saan magakakalapit ang cities? manila vs. quezon city? haha, wishful thinking... RER
Younghusband and greatwich donated a football clinic. Good sample of patriotism. Ibinalik nila sa bansa nila ang talent nila. Suggested name Cavite Drugs "Runners" Manila Lightning "Snatchers" Pasay Air Force "Hookers" sana nga matupad na Quote Link to comment

RER
So what do you want to happen then. hope that 100 thousand pinays get knocked up by foreigners with roots from a footballing nation and then end up living there and becomes a footballer? Name me a successful football nation that has no local league. As I said, ok din naman na magkaroon ng local league, basta ba makakapag ambag sila sa national squad. I think may local league na tayo, hindi nga lang masyadong sinusuportahan. Edited January 9, 2011 by RER Quote Link to comment
