Writings of the Heart

if you don't make a move to finally kiss me next time we see each other, i will friendzone you so hard.

I like clean lines, checklists, the Aptos font, and schedules that align. I tuck fresh laundry into drawers while still warm and rerack my weights at the gym. I find that sorting each connection into its own compartment is a comforting process: friend, colleague, emergency contact, lover, liability, prey.

After months of casual hangs, including sitting down to dinner with my circle, you finally take your rightful place. And as I pulled away from that initial kiss, you murmured, "I’ve wanted to do that since the day I met you," and I knew:

Soft distraction.

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.
