Hay naku, Doc. Masyadong malala na ang aking kalagayan sa ngayon at wal pa rin akong mahanap na lunas sa aking sakit. Halong psychological na talaga nga. Kasi kahit alam ko na ang aking dapat gagawin, hindi ko pa rin maiwasan.

 

I compiled listing wherein I have an inventory of, not only my kits waiting construction or completion, but also all my paints, tools, and all whatnots.

 

OC na OC na nga. I was soooo amazed na I have about 24 shades of gray by various brands (enamel, acrylic, lacquer - huwag na yung watercolor). Namputsa.

 

I have even resorted to not buying 'of the shelf', thus burdening Natalie with having to order the kits from abroad. Ang ganda ng aking 1/72 Zeppilin Staaken by Roden - Germany's greatest bomber and the largest plane of the First World War. Naman!!!

 

I have even purchased about 5 Hasegawa Eggplanes. Naman, naman!!!

 

Malapit na ang November IPMS-BAC Exhibit. Ay EWAN.

 

Don't start this, I only have to look at my unbuilt kits. As to ordering through Natalie, I have recently resorted to buying kits online. If I know someone is going to the US, I get their address (or their relatives) and have it delivered there, so when they come back, I get my kits and save on the shipping costs. I bought a lot of decal sheets this way from TwoBobs Aviation. You are not alone.

hey doc last week i cleared out a section of my cabinet and stuffed all my unbuilt kits inside. nilabas ko lang yung mga in-progress. i plan not to open a new kit until all of those pending gets done

Lessons learned from my past two builds:

 

1. Brush painting cannot pass for airbrushing even with heavy weathering.

2. Don’t be too lazy to dry fit, dry fit and dry fit everything before glueing.

3. When using liquid cement or super glue, less is more.

4. Correct any mistakes before painting.

5. Gloss paints dry longer then flat paints

6. Keep detached parts (especially small ones) together in one container.

7. Lacquer thinner works great with Tamiya acrylics and gives a super flat finish.

8. Hardware thinner and oil paints don’t go together. Better to use the more expensive but way much better turpentine or lighter fluid.

9. When painting tracks, wear old clothes, have a throwaway rag handy, and make sure you don’t have a meeting the next day where people can notice paint spots on your hands, arms and under your fingernails.

10. The best time to clean acrylic paint is when they are still wet.

11. After an oil wash, wait for the paint to dry a bit before attempting to remove the excess wash, unless you really want to dirty it up.

12. Wipe and Shine works almost as good as Future.

13. Have patience with everything (even in life!).

Although Id qualify number 7 with Gunze Lacquer Thinner.

 

 

Anyways, heres the latest off my bench. Kitech 1/300 kit. Costs P189 and the parts look every bit like it. Had to fill each panel line with superglue, sand smooth and rescribe. The landing gear is garbage, so for the first time in a long time I built an in-flight model. I made the decals myself.

Nice desktop display! Are the decals stock?

 

BTW, I used hardware lacquer thinner (the P25 per bottle type), and I can live with the results. Serves as the airbrush cleaner as well. Hey I'm a cheapskate.

I printed out the decals from Scopa sheet. Had to do the graphics for it myself too.

 

I use bottled hardware thinner to clean airbrushes too. Im probably more of a cheapskate than you, Doc.

I buy surgeon's scalpels, blades and syringe needles from Mercury. I suppose you've tried there but if you have doctor friends, couldn't they give you their discards? I do hope that this is for modelling purposes.

i've only seen needles higher than gauge 21 at mercury. yes sir i use them for paints. malaki kasi gauge 14 sakto para malipat ang kalahating bote ng paint kahit malapot pa hehehe

Oh you want really big needles? Why not try veterinary supplies? I once saw a big plastic syringe in a pet shop that is used for forcing down liquid medicine to a dog's throat. To transfer paint I just use a laboratory styrette, you know, one of those long glass tubes open at both ends? I dip it in the paint bottle, cover the other opening with my thumb and presto!

Ah I didn't see the last line in your post. You're not a cheapskate. I would have handpainted the graphics using masking tape. I even reuse old masking tape, it has almost no adhesive left so less chances of lifting paint. I'm cheapskater than you sir.

I do that too. Sometimes if I dont have anything to mask after painting Id just stick the used tape onto the cutting mat and let them stay there until right about that time their tacks become too sticky for comfort. Just in case I had to paint something and require used masking tape.

I hear ya Herr Boelcke. My wife thinks I'm crazy whenever I try to salvage old motors, wires, plastic containers, bottle caps, paper lining from shoes and clothes, coffee stirrers and other garbage.

 

The one thing that has really helped my building kits is a dedicated area for working. I used to work literally "out-of-the-box" with any kit, so I had to put all the sprues, cement and tools in the box after every session and bring it out again when I felt like working. Most of the time I was just too lazy to even look at it. Now I can work on 3 or 4 kits at a time, knowing I don't have to clean up my mess as often.
