Who Is Into Scale Modelling?

Thank you Sir Boelcke!

Ah yes.... "ground crews", those guys are incorrigible. I recall that when we had exhibits without glass cases some years back, that these guys would try to start up the props manually, rotate turrets, check wheel balance, and even take home some of the items!

Models really attract that type of attention whether you put a sign or not.... :thumbsupsmiley:

Thank god for acrylic and glass cases. Wish we also could electrify them a bit too! :upside:

Oh yes, the props. Haay. Almost makes me shed a tear when I recall them dearly departed blades. How may have fallen victim to those who cannot read "Please Do Not Touch."

Doc,

Hey, lets see them figures of yours.

The models.

Scale models, I mean, although if you want to post the other models too then by all means please do.

The scale models are still in their boxes Herr Boelcke, but I do have some pix of figures that I had some fun with. Perhaps you recognize the place from the background:

As of this writing, no serious fit issues, goes together relatively well, almost like a Tamiya kit. However it isn't a snap tite, have to play around with the peg and locating hole to achieve a temporary (and moving) join, but overall, very nice and smooth finish, minimal touch up required to fully appreciate the aesthetics of the model. Provided a pleasurable hour and a half of modelling bliss but will leave you wanting more.

Excellent review! Im completely convinced with the merits of this model! I really should get my hands on it and go tinkering asap!

I just hope its not in the Hasegawa league in terms of pricing.

My Scottish friend arrived from Jordan last Saturday together with his filipina wife and two lovely daughters aged 8 and 14. We spent most of that night looking at his builds, which can be seen at britmodeller.com. His specialty is Spitfires, and he has built just about every 1/48th Spitfire kit (the worst, he says, is the old Airfix kit). He also does jets once in a while, but he concentrates on English planes, any era. He used to do masters for Cooper Details resin parts for Spitfires and I think does their technical stuff occasionally. He is now head of the Department of Science at the University of Jordan, and I had a laugh when he told me he uses the department's laser cutter to cut vinyl masks for canopies. He is very keen on accuracy and I can appreciate it when he showed me what he did with the cockpit of a Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster which I gave him 2 years ago. He scratchbuilt maps, a codebook, umbrella and all the wiring in. He also told me that among all the IPMS sites worldwide, IPMS Norway gets the most hits (because of their news on European produced kits) and next is IPMS-BAC (because of news on Trumpeter kits). We'll meet up again when he returns to Manila from Quezon province next month and we'll talk more shop.

I feel honored by that, Doc. Thanks!

Heres something recent off my shelf.

I call it "Contact Bearing..."

Its supposed to depict a Phil Army unit on patrol and running into a rebel force. The unit immediately engages and the radio operator calls in fire support.

The grass is made of artificial leaves bought from a department store, cut up into blades, bunched and planted onto the base. I was looking for something different from the usual straw dio grass. On hindsight I shouldve used artificial leaves with less obvious fabric patterns. It shows up on close up shots.

Comments welcome.

As usual very nice vignette. I can even recognize the First Infantry Division (Tabak) patch!

Thanks Doc! Youre right on the patch.

:)

I have no excuse except to say that I'm a military brat. One of my dreams is to model the Philippine Marines vehicles. I already have an LVTP 5 with resin interior, a 6x6 truck, Kennedy and Willys jeeps, Humvees and now the Cadillac Gage V-150. I'm still working on the references but I've already viewed Oppus' website and will get in touch soon with Gen. Martir.
