Tips For The Newly Graduates

Recommended Posts

If, by the time you graduate, you haven't made yourself a road map, start making yourself one already because you are already late making one. For the fresh grads, the mentality is always to get a job. And if you are a new graduate reading this, what the heck are you doing reading this? LOL! Get out there and get a job! :P

Seriously though, make sure you double check your resume (biodata). Get the names of people and the company right. Basic! There are, however, people who miss out on this.

1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!

2 : The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity. (wag masyado mapili sa trabaho)

6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one. If you agree, pass it on. If you can read this - Thank a teacher!

I'll share what one of our senior exec shared with me (I could have sworn he read it somewhere but I can't recall so benefit of the doubt to him. Besides the way he delivered it was so appropriate for the situation at that time). Here's what he said (he's 62 na BTW - you'll know why I had to share this as you read on):

"When I was growing up I thought I should go out and change the world, as I went and learned about the world in my younger years I realized that I should just change my country, but it was also difficult so I figured I'd make a change in my town. As I grew older I realized I cannot change my town so I decided I will change my family, late into my years I learned that I cannot change others nor my family so I decided to change myself.

Now I am an old man and I learned that since I changed myself I was able to change my family, in turn we made a stronger impression in our town. This made our town so significant that our country started to notice and we were able to influence the country and who knows maybe later on...the world"

Young grads, before you go out to the world and blame everything for your success and failures, know that your future stats from what you change from within. There are bigger things in the world than us so we must learn to find our place in the world to understand how we can contribute. Not all of us will become CEOs, political leaders, technocrats or business moguls but this does not deny us the right to make a significant impact to society.

I am not a fan of telling people what to do but I am always happy to show people the opportunities that they can grab. The rest is up to you, be happy with what you chose and be honest with yourself with how you measure success.

Yun lang po..bow.

set a goal, and be sure to make some objectives under it..

If you really want to succeed sa natapos mong kurso then try to stay on track.. ( marami kasing umiiba ng direksyon) mahirap kumuha ng trabaho but make sure na related pa rin siya sa course mo para atleast kahit papaano may maipapakita kang experience if ever an opportunity arises.

Make sure your CV is concise. During the interview, show some backbone, have confidence and answer straight to the point. These people don't have time to listen to your life story. they want someone who can DO the Job.

Good luck graduates :D

learn microsoft excel, it is the barrier between working hard and working smart. ito rin ang mag dedetermine kung ikaw ay magOT, maguuwi ng trabaho, or uuwi na walang takehome at gumimik!(vlookup, concatenate, left, right, mid, countif, countifs, sumif, sumifs,if,and,or,pivot table)

bear in mind that your first job will suck 80% of the time. the pay will be low,and the work hours and location is so inconvenient. pero take note na you are a fresh grad. wala ka pang skills sa real world kaya pwede wag magreklamo!kahit na cum laude ka ng kung anong school, what you learned in school amounts to sh!t if you have an arrogant behavior

a lawyer friend of mine once asked me that she is looking for a firm that will pay her 30k-50k salary kasi she graduated from a well known school. i told her na even i wont pay her that much kasi fresh grad palang siya. hindi pa siya worth bayaran ng ganun kasi anong alam niya sa trabaho?iba ang lakaran sa labas. diskarte ang binabayaran, hindi lang basta theoretical knowledge. and she is not even a top student!hahaha

stay with the company for at least three years. learn everything you need to learn from that place. kung taga photocopy ka lang ng papel, tanungin mo kung para saan at kanino ibibigay. pag taga reformat ka lang ng pc, magtanong about networks.

be humble dahil again, your high grades amount to sh!t outside.it only gets you through the door. but it wont keep you in there. learn the ropes bago magpasikat.

Don't be half-as$ed with your job applications; treat it like a full-time job. There are 8 hours in a working day so it shouldn't take you 3-6 months to get an interview. If you start today you should be able get an interview in a few days. If you take it seriously you can land several interviews by next week. After you have taken a few exams it will be easier to score higher when it counts. When you get at least one job offer you will be more confident in your next interview. Your existing job offers may increase your value in your next interview because they usually ask about existing job offers if they're interested in hiring you.
