In between those he swims. He bikes on weekends and never drink beer or eat meat. friend no.2 i got this friend who follows a very minimam exercise program like briskwalking to work. taking stairs instead of elevator, does not smoke, drinks socially...rides the bike on weekend...sleeps early.. when both of my friends went to see their docs...they were given almost same level of good health. now, I am not a person who can afford to do what friend no. 1 can do...i got work. Can there be an alternative exercise regimen for office workers to keep a healthy body (no hypertension, controllable cholesterol level, good heart condition).... Just wanted to chime in the original post. Madaming kulang na info, but just going by what was provided: malawak talaga ang range ng "good health". Basta w/in normal ranges ang blood work, at wala namang chronic illness, posible pa ring magkapantay sila from a medical standpoint. Longevity et al. is a whole different matter, but also much harder to measure objectively, and is definitely not in the scope of an APE. Both may be equally active and/or burn the same calories; F1 could spend most of his activity sa gym, but F2 spends it through most of the day. Plus, walking (& step counting) is an extremely powerful form of physical activity kasi kahit saan mo pwedeng gawin, including while doing other productive things. pointing out that Friend #2 "sleeps early" can imply that Friend #1 does not. Sleep (& stress) is a highly underrated aspect of health. Sa daming ginagawa ni F1 for fitness, baka nauubusan ang oras kaya malimit puyat. As all gym rats (should) know, you don't grow in the gym, but rather in bed. F1 might be missing out on lots of gains by not recovering enough for them. Stress is also key. F2 "drinks socially", while F1 not only doesn't, but also does so much fitness work, so he could be having higher stress levels. There are two takeaways from this (mukhang theoretical) comparison. First, kayang kaya maging fit kahit konti lang ginagawa. Walking is hugely underrated (mas lalo kung WFH or desk worker ka). Second, work-life balance, plus staying consistent, can lead to better sleep & lower stress, which are as important as exercise. Quote Link to comment
