San Miguel Beer

Cabagnot maybe the Second Coming or the Messiah of SMB but jopit is starting to become the AntiChrist! Hehe!

Anyway, SMB had suited the greatest imports ever (Norman Black and Lamont Strothers comes to mind) so their import better live up to expectations...

SMBeer import fails height test

The Philippine Star 03/07/2007

San Miguel Beer has tapped a new reinforcement after its original choice, Kelly Whitney, failed the height measurement for imports seeing action in the Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Cup.

Kelly, a 240-pound banger, was measured at the PBA office yesterday at 6’6 7/16, just a shade above the limit pegged at 6’6. This means he cannot suit up for San Miguel this conference.

San Miguel, set to play defending champion Red Bull on Friday, has tapped Vidal Messiah, an American who reportedly played for the Canadian national team, to replace Whitney.

Whether Messiah will be allowed to play for the Beermen will be known today when he is measured at the pro league office. He’s already in town and has in fact been to San Miguel workouts.

Four more imports will be measured today not according to height but through their court value as the four-day-old Fiesta Cup resumes at the Araneta Coliseum.

Sta. Lucia Realty, one of only three teams with an intact local crew for this conference, parades 6-foot-5 Rock Winston when it takes on Air21 at 4:35 p.m.

Winston is a former US NCAA Division 1 player who also saw action for the Minnesota Ripknees in the ABA. His latest tour of duty was in Argentina.

Air21will have returning import Shawn Daniels to man the slot. At 6-foot-6, the 200-pound product of the NBA Development League is expected to do better than his previous stint with the Express.

The other game at 7:20 p.m. pits Alaska against Talk N Text, the team that lost superstars Asi Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Ren-Ren Ritualo to the national team.

Alaska will have Rosell Ellis, the muscular import who made his PBA debut for Ginebra in 2003. Not getting any younger at 32, he played in Australia after a second stint with Ginebra in 2004.

Talk N Text will have new import in J.J. Sullinger, listed as a 6-foot-5 guard who loves the open court. – Abac Cordero

I was watching the game last night...

It was so disappointing for SMB to part with Belasco just to acquire this inactive guy... -_-

this guy is a pretty decent player when he's in alaska

but he's a natural 2 kasi

when san miguel got him, they are grooming him to be olsen's successor

yeah... SMB really did their best to hide the guy!

too bad he had to play some pick up game against ordonio...

in the end... the alaska coaching staff knew about him and drafted him...

SMB was bent on getting him since he could play both the 1 and 2 positions...

guess who scouted and brought him over... Coach Ron!

Jaded observers contend that this conference could be a struggle for the Beermen, who lost a lot of offensive venom with Danny Seigle and Dondon Hontiveros on loan to the national team.

Considering their plight, coach Biboy Ravanes, who takes over the reins from RP5 mentor Chot Reyes, can only hope that Vidal Massiah is a miracle worker who can save the Beermen from the wrath of the vengeful defending champions.

Ravanes said Massiah flew in from the United States and tried out for a spot on the team. The 220-lb, 6-5 7/16 import was taken in as a reliever after San Miguel's original choice, Kelly Whitney, exceeded the allowable height ceiling of 6-foot-6 (he was measured at 6-6 7/16) making him ineligible to suit up.

Lordy indeed is out... however due to reasons other than a torn ACL...

did you guys see the game earlier? SMB didn't have energy...

from the onset they played like a team who's very tired... they took the lead only bec RB failed to make their shots...

I also think we need another import... I don't think Vidal will take this team deep...
