Mukhang marami na championships sina Danny I. at Olsen ah?

Congrats to SMB!

Also counting din yung mga Finals na pumasok ang SMB (pero di nag champion-a great feat although kung siguro nag tuloy tuloy ang Crispa and Toyota (maski di same players syempre), baka pangatlo lang ang SMB sa most championships won. Na disband kasi yung dalawa back in 1984

Pwede na magretire si Racela nito. :hypocritesmiley:

Unless gusto niyang magkaroon ng rings ang lahat ng mga daliri niya.

Mas madami championship si Racela back from his PF days pa. Before he was recruited by Ron Jacobs. May usap-usapan nun na gagawin syang assistant coach after retirement.

With regards sa line-up ng San Miguel, siguro minor changes lang ang mangyayari since kagagaling nila sa championship. Plus maglalaro na si Tugade and Seigle.

TANQUINGCEN’S NEW DILEMMA

AS the old saying goes: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

But that’s precisely what newly-crowned 2009 Motolite Fiesta Conference champion San Miguel Beer must do in order to come up with a better team for the coming season.

“That’s the reality of it,” said Beermen head coach Siot Tanquingcen Sunday, referring to the changes his recently-crowned team must undergo in order to further strengthen what is already a power-packed team.

“Medyo mahirap, pero kailangang gawin,” he added.

Danny Seigle and Lordy Tugade have recovered from the injuries that have sidelined them for majority of the past season and are set to make a return in the Philippine Cup that starts the season up this coming October.

The two players’ comeback means the Beermen should be the favorite to win a first-ever all-Filipino under Tanquingcen and the franchise’s first such title since 2001.

“Iyun (Philippine Cup) talaga ang pinaka-target, kahit na ni (team owner) Boss Danding (Cojuangco),” said Tanquingcen, whose team wound up fourth the last time out, losing to eventual champion Talk ‘N Text in the semifinals.

But some other current Beermen must also make way for certified scoring threats Seigle and Tugade.

“Iyun nga lang ang mahirap,” reiterated Tanquingcen, who took five conferences before turning his team into one cohesive title-clinching unit. “Kung kailan nabuo ang chemistry ng team, saka naman papasok ang ganito, na you have to make changes.”

He bared there are Beermen with expiring contracts, like Olsen Racela, Wesley Gonzales, Chris Calaguio and Jonas Villanueva, to name a few.

Because Villanueva won the Finals MVP award in SMB’s championship victory over Barangay Ginebra in the Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference, his contract is sure to be retained.

The future is not so certain with the others, even though Tanquingcen has admitted those who did not see much action in the Fiesta helped in their own way by prepping the starters and their relievers during practices.

Compounding the problem is the fact SMB has a No. 9 pick overall in the Rookie Draft.

Things can get a bit clearer later in the week, said Tanquingcen.

“Ipapatawag kami sa (SMC head) office. Du’n magkakaroon na ng konting usapan about the current players at kung ano ang gagawin sa draft pick,” he related.

It’s not that he shirks at the problem.

“Mas mabuti na ito kaysa wala kang pinamimilian,” he reasoned. “Armas meron na. Mamimili ka na lang ng kalibre ng bala.” (NCo)
