It's not "legal" everywhere in China. What your friend is saying is that you may fall victim to extortion. Many of these escorts are in cahoots with the local police. Despite the appearance of modernity, scams are still rampant in China. Usually what they do is they just go to KTVs and take the women out. Since there's an establishment and owner, you're somehow assured you won't be subjected to extortion.

It's ironic that the Japanese and Koreans used to visit China during the early 2000's for sex. I was there and women would just call you in your hotel phone asking if you want a massage. Nowadays it's easier and cheaper to get sex in Japan and Korea.

Modern place but the people, especially those from the rurals and the older gens, are still yet to keep up in terms of etiquette and manners. One more turnoff is the smoking culture. Literal na kahit saan, kahit sa tabi pa yan ng NO SMOKING sign o kahit sa loob ng hotel room. They will just smoke everywhere, maliban na lang sa loob ng public vehicles and museums.

Di rin expat friendly, except sa major cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. I've experienced locals trying to get pictures with me dahil isa akong balbas saradong Pinoy na naglalakad lang, and bihira silang makakita ng di kagaya sa kanila na itsura.

Prostitution, once ko lang naranasan. Pero hindi sa major city, kundi sa Shantou in Chaoshan area of Guangdong province. Went up a building tapos pasok sa kwarto. Showup ang girls then ikaw mamili. If wala kang choice, another set of girls will be called for you until may mapili ka. Didn't know how much kasi nilibre lang ako. Chose a boobsy girl with natural pairs. Mind you, talamak din ang cosmetic surgery lalo na pag mga nagtatrabaho as escorts, KTV GROs, or plain whores. Service was okay, notable acts were shower action, rimming, BBBJ. I didn't bother DFK and DATYing her though. Language barrier is a challenge as I can only speak a handful of Mandarin and majority of people don't speak English everywhere in China.

20 years ago, Chinese girls in Dongguan will literally drag your arms to enter into the club. Every hotel back then was practically a brothel. Best of all, it was affordable, far more affordable than Vietnam these days. I remember a lot of Koreans going to China for sex tourism.

Now it's the opposite. These escorts are making far more than us, and in fact it's the Chinese which are the highest paying customers of high end Japanese and Korean escorts.

Although, China girls were not THAT pretty back then. Hindi pa uso plastic surgery that time. Now they all look like Douyin influencers already.
