hitman531ph
Influential radio stations of the 80s: WXB102 Underground new wave was their format. Although WXB102 was once Magic Disco 102, the change in format had a very loyal cult following even if it was broadcasting at only 1000 watts. 99.5 RT First to use CDs for broadcast. First to have female newscasters. Also played new wave due to their association with Social Distortion mobile (which later put up Faces and later Mars) but was primarily known for playing future pop hits several months before other pop stations played them. Also had Casey Kasem's American Top 40 and later Rick Dees Top 40 as well as oher imported radio programs like Weekly Top 30 and Special of the Week. WKFM Where jazz never sounded better. Introduced and played jazz fusion until 1984 when BBC (now ABS-CBN) pirated Helen Vela and promised her a radio station as part of a package of her employment. When Helen Vela came aboard, WKFM died. Power 105 Formerly DWLM Super Tunog Pinoy. Played new wave and broadcasting at 25000 watts and is a good alternative for people whose radio sets could not properly receive WXB102 (broadcasting only at 1000 watts). On Sundays, it played jazz. This format started 1984 and disappeared by 1987. Kiss FM Played pop and dance hits of the late 80s. Introduced Mike Francis and other dance hits of the same genre. Revived jazz every Sunday with Quiet Storm. NU107 With the shutdown of WXB102 and format change of Power 105, NU107 started playing new wave and some pop at first in 1987 and later metamorphosed to alternative rock by the 90s.
