Thanks again for the site hitman! I visited it a while ago and saw Total Recall by The Sound... when I saw it I I thought the song title was familiar and I knew that it was a song I used to like even though I forgot how it went..and then I downloaded it and I got teary-eyed listening to it... I love this song, thanks again bro, and also to the original uploader, whoever it was... this brings back a lot of memories...*sigh*

You're welcome Hex. I uploaded that myself. Glad you enjoy it.

Hi peeps! :zorro:

I dunno if you guys are familiar with this nostalgic song that keeps running in my head - the title of which, I unfortunately forgot. <_<

Anyways, I only remember some of the lyrics which goes:

I look but I don't see,

Listen but (I) can't hear,

Shadows follow me.

So hard I tried to hide,

My feelings deep inside.

But still I reach for you.

So I want you to stay,

Here with me..... :flowers:

That's a great ballad. If i'm not mistaken, the title is "On My Own Again". I'm not 100% sure, though. I'll try to find my copy. I'm having a hard time recalling the name of the singer, but i could still remember when he guested in Eat Bulaga to promote the song.

It's melody was somehow similar with Bread's "Lost Without Your Love", particularly the intro.

Thanks for uploading the Bauhaus songs! I haven't seen the more darker Cure songs yet, so I'll request for them here:

The Cure--Charlotte Sometimes

The Cure--The Figurehead

The Cure--One Hundred Years

The Cure--A Night Like This

Of course, the last one came from "The Head On The Door", one of my favourites there aside from In Between Days".

na upload ko na ito lahat check mo nalang, meron pa lang akong the cure - paris(compilation).......

Music media in the 80s consisted of vinyl records, cassette tapes and compact disc. Records dominated the 80s specially so for middle and upper class with component type stereo sets which came with single or dual cassette tape deck with Dolby Noise Reduction, an AM/FM receiver (which means a pre-amplifier, amplifier, tuner in one), a turntable set up in a black finish wooden cabinet with glass door and two speakers. Some 70s stereo sets crossed over into the 80s with top-open natural varnished wood cabinets with 4 speakers called quadrosonic stereo sound. Professional DJs use Technics SL1200 which was improved over the years and is still being used today by dance club DJs who still use records.

Locally manufactured records, even those made in Taiwan, Hongkong and Singapore were poorly made. Philippine made records have a slight quality advantage over the static filled records of the 3 other countries. The reason some people are forced to buy records from the 3 countries is that many songs or albums were released first in those countries. Some albums released in those countries never see print here. US and German made records had the best quality vinyl but costs as much as 500 to 1000 pesos (1980s pesos: P7 to $1 in 1980 to P22 to $1 in 1989).

Records in the 80s were the 12" long play (LP) which contained full albums (in 33-1/3 rpm), 12" extended play (EP) which were extended or remix versions of popular songs for dancefloor purposes (in 33-1/3 or 45 rpm) and the 7" single with a larger hole in the middle where you need an adaptor for the spindle. There were always two sides. Side A and B or sometimes referred as Side 1 and 2.

The cassette deck was given a boost in the latter half of the 80s with the HX Pro technology which gave cassette tapes near vinyl record quality clarity. Dolby noise reduction was relegated to the background as an option with B or C type. The B type Dolby was for "Normal" or ordinary tapes. The C type was for chrome dioxide (chrome for short) and "Metal" tapes. I was told the Metal type tape is hard on the tape head but recording came quite close or almost identical to the original. Tapes came in 120, 90, 75, 60, 45 and 30. The music companies used the 75 (for long albums), 45 (most widely used) and 30 (for short albums) for the tapes sold in the market. Blanks sold 120, 90 and 60. TDK, Maxell, Sony, BASF and Memorex were the well known brands. However, two local brands MTK Magnetics and Dynapak (same manufacturer) had decent quality normal tape. If you had a turntable and a cassette deck, home recording was always a convenient thing to do.

The advent of compact disc in 1982 did not impact the music scene until the late late 80s. Compact discs appeared in music stores in 1985 and were 300 and increased to 375 each, while CD players were 6000 to 12000 each (remember the 80s peso value). The sound quality was marvelous but the players were expensive and bulky. Only Sony and Philips (co-developers and inventors of CD) sold CD players here until 1987 when more brands joined in.

Eto my ultimate request--The Damned's whole LP, "Phantasmagoria". Actually had that tape, but someone borrowed it and didn't return it. Aww...I actually have tapes of all my requests, but it would cost me much if I transfer them all on CD, hehe! Well, a U2 song that I like (and again, it's in one of those borrowed tapes that never returned) is "The Three Sunrises".

You're very much welcome. However, as thonetteski says, I'm not the only one you should thank... this community has made significant additions to the website... 80s enthusiasts like thonetteski, arnoldtan, Hex Arenas, jokelang, mwah and those who I don't recall for now as well as others who may have contributed anonymously...

Just in:

Soft Cell - What

The Sundays - Summertime

(lots of people think one-hit wonder ang The Sundays, and isip nila HWTStory Ends lang yung ok nilang song. Summertime is another, and I think a cable channel is using this song sa station plugs nila? Also OK yung WILD HORSES, ginamit sa Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Anyway, ganda ng lyrics ng HWTSE. Nice that yung lines na "Its that little souvenir from a terrible year"...ay naging "...colourful year" later on in the song...What do you think happened in the shed? :-)

Joy Division - Atmosphere (this sounds surprisingly modern even after 30 years, and ginamit sya sa soundtrack ng Trainspotting)
