Mac Users Of Mtc (apple: Go Ahead, Take A Bite!)

Somebody gave me a PowerBook G4 para i-convince akong mag-mac. It's uses a magsafe charger. I noticed one thing however. When I am using the mac and it gets hotter, the charger shuts down. When I unplug it and re-plug it after few minutes, it charges again. If the unit it off, the charging is continuous without interruption. Is this normal to this type of unit? Hope to hear a reply. Thanks in advance!

  1. No Powerbook model ever came with a Magsafe connector. I know. I have had them all. Since you specificall mentioned a Powerbook G4, no G4-powered Apple laptop in 12-, 15- or 17-inch was ever released with a Magsafe. The power adapters on these units plugged on the right rear side of the unit and used something that looked like a collared mini-stereo plug with a pilot light around the collar. This is probably how you know that the charger stops working. If it stops charging while being used, the problem is probably not in the adapter but in the unit itself. Ageing Powerbooks tend to be prone to problems that cause the power management unit of the computer to shut down power to prevent damage. It can be as simple as dirty insides which can not be adequately cooled. It can be an overheating trackpad and/or display module (yikes!). It can also be something that can be solved in firmware by tweaking some settings. Once the unit starts restarting on its own and then gets hard to start up you know that the problem has worsened. Is it normal for this type of unit? Yes, but by my experience only for those that have been misused and/or badly maintained.
  2. I suggest that you send it in to an Apple repair facility for cleaning before things get out of hand. They will also evaluate it and let you know what future problems you can expect. The problem can also be an overheating battery by the way.

I only entrust my Apple equipment to one shop. Ynzal used to be an Apple reseller but some politics got in the way for the them but they are still a certified Apple service facility AND the shop of choice of almost all of the advertising and graphics agencies in Manila for servicing Macs. They are in QC, just a block away from Timog Ave. check out their details at www.ynzal.com

MGA BOSSING IM USING A MAC BOOK PRO 13 YUNG 2GIG LANG , accdg sa mac tumatagal daw til 7 hours pero yung mac ko mga 3 to 4 hours lang minsan zinga poker lang grabe bumaba ... is this normal... sori ah first timer eh

The following would be my guess of the battery load of your computer:

  1. Airport or network card - constantly working as Zynga is web based.
  2. Your hard disk would also be probably spinning as your browser tries to cache the constantly changing browsing history each time you draw a card.
  3. As you are playing, your screen wold also be constantly on and probably on its brightest setting.
  4. What other utils do you have running? SMC Fan Control can raise your battery load by running the fans at a higher speed (a good idea if you are working in a non AC room in the tropics).
  5. Do you have a cooling pad connected? What about an external HD? Ipod? iPhone? Bluetooth is on?

You know 3 to 4 hours is not so bad. The 7 hours is always quoted as a figure under the best possible conditions. Meaning, lowest load, dimmed screen, etc.

Imagine what the real world endurance of those cheap windows based laptops would be if they are being quoted at 3 to 4 hours by the vendors?

My benchmark is if I can watch a full movie on one battery charge, that is pretty good.

Try the Apple Mac Service center along P. Guevarra St, San Juan. Never been inside the shop but Im sure it is an authentic service center for apple, it has an Apple Logo billbooard.

For those who want an ACCURATE weather tracker (not only for the Philippines, but the whole world), search and download OSXPlanet. Your desktop will be converted into a world map (just select mercator in the preferences menu), complete with satellite-views of storms/low pressure areas, (which are identified as such) cloud cloud cover, etc (also shows the direction or path of the storms. Better than PAGASA from my experience).

It will also show you which part of the earth is at daytime, and which parts are at night.

If you choose, it can also show volcano eruptions, earthquakes, etc.

I recommend it.

By the way, although IT IS FREE, I do encourage you to donate. It's worth it kasi.

like? porn sites? hehe

For testing suspicious software and porn sites, I use a wintel machine na patapon. I have Vista on a Faronics Deep Freeze volume and just keep on deleting that volume if something goes wrong.

Never had the need to use any anti-virus app on my Macs. Well, Mac for now as all my computers were destroyed by the flood that engulfed my house. Masakit sa loob but on the bright side, a good excuse to get new equipment.

boom are you familiar with the black and white prob when upgraded to snow leopard?running in my wifes macbook is smooth but when i brought home my mbp from the office its different. The only quick solution thats out yet is to restart your mac while dvi is plug in. Hope mac will release a fix on these right away

flood sucks ! :thumbsdownsmiley:

More like: flood spews! But yes, the darn thing got my entire house. Only two out of 20 cats survived, along with my family and two big dogs. What was not washed away when an empty freezer broke through the roof followed by everything that would flot, was ruined.

One entire data rack was toppled over and drowned in muck. Up to now, techs are still trying to clean and dry but I am not optimistic. When we evacuated, I wrote off everything in mind mind already. Yes, goodbye xServe, goodby Drobo Pro and goodby Apple LCD displays. But it is a fair exchange for our lives.

I feel like a newly wed shopping for all new stuff for the house. We've abandoned the house until it can be torn down and rebuilt and have moved into a condo south of Makati. Sadly, our dogs will have to stay kenneled at the vet's for now. The only thing I don't regret losing is that stupid HTC Touch Cruise Windows Mobile Phone which I've been dying to but could not throw away for political reasons.

I never had it. I heard of it, but I never experienced any. From Mac Mini (C2D) to MB Air and MBP it was a smooth upgrade and no gltches for me except the one on downgrading Flash. When the new post-flood hardware comes in, I'll post if I get any hinkey behaviour.
