abiakak
Windows XP does not, natively, supports SATA drives. you need a third party driver for that. The only way to install Windows XP, with a SATA drive, is to load third party drivers (press F6 when loading). The catch is that you need to have your drivers on a floppy. When XP boots watch the bottom of the screen it will prompt you when to press F6. Then see if you can browse for the drivers. May be try putting it on a flash drive and see if it will find it or get a USB floppy and see if that will work. Maybe consider using vista basic since it has SATA support built in. -- I've had no trouble setting up a regular SATA drive with SuSE 9.2, 9.3 or Ubuntu 5. Try the followinig options: 1. Go to the bios and look for something called SATA Support, and disable it, and start the computer again form the CD.2. Check your bios (only in some bios) if your drive is detected as the first controller.3. Lastly, try to check if your mobo has an updated bios version. Backup your current bios version, flash it with the new one, then try to install the drive again. Quote Link to comment

You might wanna try Medusa (http://www.cad-schroer.com/index.php?ziel=Products-MEDUSA-M4Personal&land=com&scr=1.1). I don't really use this kind of software so I can't say if it's good but it would be good to hear feedback from someone who can evaluate its functionalities. Quote Link to comment

rayt64
I use Slackware Linux ver 12 for HDD full install. I use SLAX live CD for run on CD or Flash Drive without the need of a hard drive. I also use SLAX live CD to remove virus on flash drives and mobile hard drive and also to recover important files form a crashed Windows PC. Quote Link to comment
wintermute
i'm using linux too -- for over 8 yrs now. started on debian potato.currently running two machines with ubuntu 'hardy heron' 8.04 (both upgraded from 5.10 'breezy badger')and two machines with debian etch Quote Link to comment
james_bandido
im still on 7.10, is it okay to upgrade now to 8.04 ? so far, ive heard there are still some quirks on upgrading earlier versions to 8.04 ... right now, i'm on waiting mode ... for the cds to arrive Quote Link to comment
wintermute
well.. i didn't have any problem, but i heard about some quirks in a few forums, but this is up to your underlying computer system. if you should have any problems, just post your questions/troubles here and I will try to do my best. By the way, as mentioned, my system is upgraded starting from breezy and the only time i really had a few problems was from edgy to feisty (because of the introduction of upstart). james_bandido
thanks bro, i'll wait for the cd's to arrive so that i can do the upgrade, if i'm gonna do an online update, with my current internet connection, it'll take me an average of 6hrs ... Quote Link to comment
mackyboy
Question lang: Ano mas ok? GNOME o KDE? Ano advantage nung isa over the other. For ubuntu users, ano mas ok? Ubuntu o Kubuntu? Quote Link to comment
wintermute
I would also vote for GNOME and/or XFCE. IMHO KDE is too fat -- although it has become much in version 4.x. Quote Link to comment
