sonnyt111
Hindi tayo totoong demokrasya. Kasi hindi naman tayo government of the people, for the people, and by the people. Government tayo of political families, for the political families, of the political families. They do not represent us, nor work for our best interest. A government that does not represent the best interest of its people can not be called a democracy. Imbes sana magagandang accomplishments na pakikinabangan ng tao ang nagiging highlight ng sona, mas napapansin pa yung karangyaan ng mga dapat kumakatawan sana satinI wonder what we, as ordinary citizens, can do to punish these government officials. No, I'm not talking about filing plunder charges against these politicians. That's the job of the Ombudsman. What can we, as individuals, do to effectively put a damper on the lives of these crooks? Keying the expensive cars of these politicians comes to mind, but this is childish, not to mention illegal and constitutes vandalism. How about standing up and leaving a particular pew during a mass as soon as a corrupt politician sits beside you with his bodyguards in toe? Or looking the other way when they acknowledge your presence with a smile? I know this is small time and not everyone is as indignant about these criminals posing as government officials. I wouldn't even be surprised if some stupid people will want to have their photos taken with these criminals. So what can we do as individuals to show our displeasure over the activities of these criminals? How I wish we could create a new thread entitled "Ideas on how to personally show dirty politicians that we abhor them." Quote Link to comment
sonnyt111
It is about time that we bring law enforcement techniques into the 21st century. I'm talking about the use of DNA to convict criminals. What we need are scientists trained in extracting DNA from trace evidence such as hair, saliva, blood, semen, skin cells, etc. Hand in hand with this is the need to properly preserve this DNA so it does not degrade. Of course the first step to this is ensuring that evidence is properly handled following established protocols. If such protocols aren't in place, then police and other law enforcement agencies should start putting these in place. There's no need to re-invent the wheel. All that's needed is sending SOCO operatives to the USA, Europe and Australia and see how police agencies over there establish and follow such protocols in order to ensure that the evidence collected isn't compromised. sonnyt111
As soon as procedures in extracting DNA are perfected, I propose a law that would require hardened criminals to submit their DNA to law enforcement for encoding into a nation-wide data base. In the US, this nationwide data base is called CODIS (Combined DNA Indexing System) Which type of criminals are required to submit their DNA will follow internationally accepted standards (if any exist). On top of this list are murderers, rapists, and other criminals with violent tendencies. So if a rapist assaults a woman, leaving his DNA on the woman's body, SOCO can properly collect trace evidence such as pubic hair, semen, etc. and submit it to the forensic laboratory which will attempt to extract the DNA from such evidence. Once the DNA is extracted, the data will now be entered into the DNA database. If a criminal with a previous history of rape already has his DNA encoded on the database, the computer will make a match and print out his name. So without even knowing who raped the woman, the criminal will be identified, based on the DNA he left behind. This will be prima facie evidence that the suspect was indeed the rapist. All these are already in place in 1st World countries. Over here, convictions are still achieved only through eyewitness identification which can be flawed. With DNA matching, there is no room for doubt. To date, I have never heard of any criminal convicted in the Philippines based solely on DNA he left behind at the scene of the crime. There are many applications of DNA technology aside from forensics. Para magkaroon ng ganyan, some legislation and funding is really needed to make the industry grow.

Since we are in the vast minority, what we say, think, do, etc. won't matter in the long run as long as the politician has his hoardes of political supporters. And these guys are in the majority. sonnyt111
We should have a law banning the posting of the names and photos of politicians (mayors, congressmen, governors, etc.) on government projects under their jurisdiction such as roads and bridges. Taxpayers' money was used to fund these projects. These politicians claim credit for these projects whenever they have their names and photos prominently displayed. The names and photos of these politicians should also be banned from being displayed on ambulances, fire trucks, etc. These government vehicles were likewise purchased using taxpayers' money. It's only in the Philippines where I see the name and photo of a particular mayor on the sides of an ambulance. Quote Link to comment
Edmund Dantes
I propose a law repealing the stupid "Lina Law."
polspy
Ban all currently privately ran buses and jeepney.Kopyahin ang singapore where operators are limited (3?) and bidded out. Monthly kpi and SLA measured and fine meted out to operators for failure to meet. Max contract of 5 years before next rebidding. Drivers must be paid fixed salary and they have kpi and SLA to meet to keep job / get bonus. Quote Link to comment
sonnyt111
Privatize the MRT/LRT to conglomerates that have the necessary funds to properly maintain the train network. Imagine if Philippine Airlines was managed the same way the MRT/LRT is managed. The thought alone is mind-boggling. Quote Link to comment
oscartamaguchiblackface
Pass the Freedom of Information Act. Junk House Bill 7807 also known as the "Anti-Selfie Bill/Protection Against Personal Intrusion Act. The former will help contribute in making politicians accountable for their sins. The latter has the opposite effect and will instead protect them against media intrusion should they be accused of violating the law. A clear case of politicians creating/not passing laws to protect their self-interests. http://www.phillipin...house-bill.html http://www.abs-cbnne...lfie-house-bill Edited August 30, 2014 by oscartamaguchiblackface Quote Link to comment
gobster11
An amendment of the Constitution, particularly on "Suffrage." Those who are allowed to vote and to run for public office are those who are paying and actually filing income tax returns. Students are also allowed to vote if they are actually enrolled in a school. Medyo elitist, but at least we can be assured that the people voting are educated and reasonable. But then again, this is wishful thinking. Quote Link to comment
