My work as well as that of my colleagues at the office deal with some sensitive files that are for the eyes only of our boss.  Our operating system is Windows 2K and we belong to a large network.    While tinkering with his PC, one of my colleagues discovered that his hard drive was shared. The same was the case too with mine and that of the others in our Department.  I was able to untick the shared option but every time the pc is restarted, the shared option is activated again. I don't think there is a policy in our office regarding the authority of the IT people to pry into our pcs.

 

Questions:

 

1.  Does this mean that the administrator of our network can see, copy and even modify our files?

2.  Is there a way to prevent this (through installation of some third party software or otherwise) even if we don't have administrator status?

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Tnx

I think you may be referring to Administrative shares like C$, D$, ADMIN$, and so forth. Those are automatically created by Windows, which is why they keep coming back every time you reboot.

is there any way of password protecting a windows file or folder?  can't seem to figure that out...

If you're using WinXP, Win2K, or WinNT and the partition where your files are stored are NTFS-formatted, you could simply set the permissions on the folder to be readable only by your user account.

It was 200 a week when I was still in college. That was enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That should give you an idea as to how long ago that was.

You're probably referring to Palm Grove. It has a swimming pool but it's not a resort. It's a condominium complex.

I remember when my dad used to jog in the Makati Business District in the early 70's and he would bring me along. There were a LOT of butterflies back then. Plus there was AutoMat, SM only sold shoes & bags and only occupied a one-story building, and we used to buy those Kellog's cereal boxes in the building where MECO was located. I also loved looking at the toys at Arcega's.

As far as I can remember, that building was known as the IBM building back then. I also remember riding in those taxis.

Plus look at the pictures of the Ortigas complex. As far back as 13 years ago you would still see the same scenes.

In that shot of Highway 54 going to Makati, I remember that Che-Vital sign! The Guadalupe complex was brand-new back then.

Until the mid- or late-80s Delta theater was still in operation.

Ah yes, the Magnolia plant! I looked forward to the times when my parents would bring me there and I would order as much ice cream and ice cream cake as my stomach could take.

The plates sporting the years and the municipality (Rizal) seem just about right. Our 1971 Holden had those plates.
