  1. bro, where's the exact location of massimo's in tagaytay?

thanks for the tip.  will try to check the place out.  :)

from the rotonda, turn right on the road going to josephine's. further down the road, you'll see a petron station in between a fork on the road. take the road going to the right. you'll see the sign of massimo's a hundred meters or so on the left side.

you may also want to try their panna cotta and their gelato (specially the pistacchio.)

by the way, i'm female. you probably got confused because of the avatar. you can blame my husband for that. by the way, he doesn't eat chocolate but he really enjoyed the molten lava chocolate cake of massimo's anyway.

he also eats the chocolate cakes of bizu (so i guess, he finds them good).

  2. Hi tentacle! I'll keep that in mind,,, :)

I heard the test includes cases, where you'll decide if a certain law applies to it,,,

Oh, that. Don't worry, you don't have to review laws. The questions are structured so that it first discusses the law (or quotes a provision of law) then you're given several situations. You'll have to determine if the law discussed applies to the situations given. So, all you really need to do is to understand the law.

I also like UP Law. However, I feel I'll be more comfortable in AL.

It's worth the cost. Really costly, though.

My thoughts exactly. And it also helped that AL is so organized that you don't really have to deal with stuff other than studying (or having fun.)

And boibastos is right, have plenty of sleep and eat breakfast before the exam. It's difficult to answer questions when you're sleepy or hungry.

  3. oops. na-mention na pala yung polly's chocolate cake and that of cookie monster. ang lungot naman, wala na yung stall nila sa unimart. pero, i'll check the one in megamall!

by the way, for a really good chocolate treat, try the molten chocolate cake in massimo's tagaytay. the chocolate cake is served warm and moist and not too sweet and it's perfect with their vanilla ice cream! definitely worth the trip.

  4. hello, shadowfang!

good luck. just remember, when asked if you hear voices at night, your answer should be no.

seriously though, if i remember right, the entrance exam for ateneo law focuses on your capability to analyze facts. so if you really want to study for it, you may want to review your intro to logic books. (but you know what? no one i know ever studied for the ateneo law entrance exams. and believe me, i know a lot of people who studied or who are studying there.)

i just noticed that you were interested in getting a scholarship. if you want to go to a good law school but you are worried about the costs, you may want to take the UP LAE.

while there are scholarships offered in ateneo law, the cost of studying there is a bit high. the campus is in rockwell. so, unless you're planning to eat at home all the time, you'll be spending at least P20 more for each meal. they also require students to wear business attire. so if you're male, be prepared to buy or have barongs made. if you're female, ok na ang slacks and blazers.

  5. Hello! I just saw a post mentioning the Winery. Incidentally, Brumm's Quality Wines, Inc. sent me a packet with their winelist and their newsletter. According to their flyer, the Winery will be conducting wine tasting sessions every weekend from 10 am to 6 pm. Price per guests starts from P300. Here are their contact details:

No. 5 Julieta Circle, Horseshoe Village, Quezon City

    Tel. nos. 7245251, 7246306, 7222185

By the way, they deliver for free within Metro Manila if you order a minimum of 12 bottles.

I haven't tasted any of their wines, though. I don't even know how they got my name and address.

Hubby and I have been enjoyinga couple of bottle of Yellow Tail Merlot 2003 the past few evenings. It definitely is a good alternative to Jacob's Creek.

I also enjoyed drinking Stonehaven Shiraz 2004 (from Southeastern Australia) with people I work with. It tasted smooth and didn't leave any bitter aftertaste. (It tasted so good that the 3 of us finished 2 bottles in an hour.) Considering that it's only P300 per bottle at the Wine Depot along Ayala Ave., I think it's a pretty good buy.

  7. now that's a good piece of information - thanks a lot, ms. tentacle.

Did you get to taste it?

I think sbm is going back to BKK for some unfinished business <hint hint> :P

yup! i loved it. i so loved it that i bought 6 bottles and brought them to manila. i got the light aventinus which is fruity and really easy on the palate but gives a strong kick after you finish a bottle. i'm down to the last bottle, though. (obvious bang tinipid-tipid?)

  8. the gloriamaris (is it still there? ), i would suggest you drive all the way down to greenhills shopping center.  pepato's is good but 2 reasons i wont spend my money there (altho i already did!)  (1) it's a fancy resto located in a mall (2) i cant seem to crossover the fact that gaita fores, known for her cibo  went upscale to fine cuisine.  (yeah, you may say i need to lighten up!).  albeit i know that she went to italy to pursue her culinary study and so did ed quimson of rastro but he took a different route getting to where he is now!  it's usually gourmet chef reaching out to mass appeal, just like wolfgang puck and spago!

yup, the gloriamaris is still there. they had (or have?) this promo thing that makes you believe that you're ordering crabs for a really good deal (they have a huge picture of a fat crab just outside their doors) but when it is served, you'll find out that your cheap crabs are alimasag and not alimango. and, as you said, their greenhills branch is better (although the quality of the food there has also deteriorated).

as for pepato, i don't really think of gaite flores while i'm eating their seabass so i'm not bothered by her going upscale to fine cuising. (even if i really don't like cibo food. i'd rather go to cafe bola.)

speaking of wolfgang puck, i think i saw a sign in gateway saying that he's opening a restaurant there. (or was i just dreaming?)

  9. i really don't have much choice when it comes to greenbelt. our office is a few minutes away and when traffic gets really bad in ayala, it is way better to brave the spaghetti-strap and tight jeans crowd than die of hunger in the middle of edsa. (hehe. obvious bang takot ako magutom?)

i like magnum too. they have a wide (in Philippine standards) selection of wine and they used to serve this really good wine cake. it was the wine version of the rhum cake. the cake was moist and not too sweet. a free dessert wine was served with each order. unfortunately, when i passed by a few weeks ago, i learned that they stopped serving it.

but when it comes to food, i like the chilean sea bass of pepato's, the nilasing na hipon of masa's (you should also try their zombie, a liter costs about P200), crab marilyn of seafoof club, lobster balls of good earth and the mushrooms with garlic of merk's.

we also love grappa's. they also have a wide selection of wines and they also have freshly-brewed beer. their buffet spread is awful but their pasta and pizza are great.

and of course, there's casa armas. their boquerones, cochinillo, iberian chicken and crab with olive oil are just perfect with their sangria.

for a cheap bottle of wine, you can also go to uva. they serve a bottle of deakin estate for abotu P450.

    now, i'm hungry.

  10. I used to think microbrews were bland stuff....

That Bacardi sure looks like it's on fire! I think that's what masi was talking about..

And surely that Talisker can't be legal

pare what's the strongest wine in terms of alco content you've ever had? Still, dry wines lang ha, not the dessert wines....

i love microbrews! i can't stand the taste of beer unless it's freshely brewed. we used to go to brewery in glorietta. now, we enjoy freshly brewed san mig beers at fiesta san mig in dusit.

but i can drink a bottle of chimay. it's available in le souffle.

speaking of specialty beers, does anyone here know where we can get aventinus?

as for alcoholic content, the only thing i remember from my forensic medicine classes (20 million years ago) was that it is faster for the stomach to absorb drinks which have 8 - 14% alcohol content. so it is faster to get drunk with wine than with beer (which, the prof said usually has 6-8% alcohol, i don't think light beers were already available in manila at that time) or with hard liquor. hmm. i'd like to think that wine drinkers get to appreciate the alcohol faster.

you are most welcome to post here as much as you are welcome to post at the spanish food thread... these 2 threads are seamless as good food is best consumed with good wine and good company.  it doesn't surprise me abit that you'll be posting on this thread, since you've posted a couple of spanish food/resto reviews on the other thread...  i sincerely appreciate your time.

shiraz is the variety of choice for bods and i except in certain exceptions where the tempranillo is present!  i would have to go for the latter.  jacob' creek is true value for money.  it is reasonably priced considering the medals it has won!

since i can't smoke and i don't have the money to gamble, the only vices left for me are eating and drinking.

as for the time i spend on posting, it's really nothing compared to the info i get from these threads. i've already leeched off the dishes and restos that were mentioned in the spanish food thread and i'm planning to take note of the wines mentioned here as well. :D

  11. hey welcome to the thread!

Jacob's Creek was one of the wines I truly enjoyed when I was starting out - I remember the time it sold for only about less than P300. I used to buy a case of this at a time from BestWorld direct - their distributor here..Talking of prices I wonder why wine prices continue to go up when worldwide there is a grape glut.  One thing for sure is the tariff here which keeps on increasing with every change in administration - also the rules at Customs whose change and interpretation is at the mercy of whoever is the Commisioner at the time....

Happy Living too - that's in Vito Cruz Ext. right? Do you live around that area? I also used to go there to buy wines direct from them although wala pa yata nun yung Chez Samantha na yan. Based on your favorable review, I think I'll go there again and check that out.

The Stimson is a bit unusual - that is, for a merlot to taste strong....

anyway welcome to the thread and we look forward to more posts from you as you seem to be some kind of a wino too like us :P

Do join us sometime together with the hubby....

    Thanks for the welcome!

I just get wines from BestWorld if I'm buying a lot or when I pass by Tektite, which isn't too often. Kung pa-isa-isa lang, I just get from any liquor store. Since we're in the stage of tasting different wines, di na kami bumibili from the distributors (unless may party or event.)

And yes, the increase in wine prices was caused by the increase in taxes and customs duties and "fees".

As for Happy Living, I haven't gone to their office. When we ordered 2 cases of Chez Samantha for an event, they volunteered to deliver the bottles to our house in QC free of charge (may kasabay kasi na delivery). Speaking of Chez Samantha, I suggest you get the red. The white isn't even good for drinking. And table wine lang talaga siya, ha.

Hanggang dito na muna as I'm planning to read the previous posts so I'll know what wines to buy for next week.

  12. Wow!  If this was baseball, strike out na ang Seafood Club, Crustasia, at Red Crab!  Three bad reviews!

Siguro kung ang gusto ay crabs - alimango, to be exact, dapat sa Dampa na lang pumunta.  Mas sulit pa!  Kalat na naman sila - from the originals in Paranaque and Baclaran (which is also Paranaque), mayroon na sa Market Market, Ortigas, and almost everywhere.  Hindi lang nga buffet, pero sigurado hindi lugi.

Uy. favorite ko rin ang alimango. And you're right, ok talaga kung sa Dampa (Paranaque) or Seaside (Pasig). Kasi, you get to buy live crabs and then have it cooked the way you want it. Ang maganda pa dito, pwede i-take home yung di mo mauubos.

As for Red Crab, okay naman doon if you order a la carte. Yung buffet kasi nila, alimasag lang yung kasama. Pero if you order a la carte, merong alimango. Sobrang sarap ng Crab Marilyn (crab with olive oil, chili and garlic). Ok din yung Raymund's salt and pepper crab. I prefer eating at their branches in Shangri-la Plaza and Malate. Masyado kasing maraming tao sa Greenbelt (Seafood Club).

  13. hi! pwede makigulo?

hubby and i enjoy a glass of wine every night. yun nga lang, we don't have the same taste in wines - he loves merlots and i go for shiraz. plus, since we consume a bottle every 2 or 3 days, we stick with the more affordable wines. so far, the cheapest wine that we both like is the chez samantha. it's a french table wine that has a fruity taste and is really easy on the palate. wholesale it costs less than P200 (we bought cases directly from happy living corporation. you can also get bottles from arellano's wine depot). hubby loves the 2002 merlot from stimson estate (available in shopwise at around P530 per bottle, or per glass in lily at the hyatt at around P200 per glass). i find it a bit too strong, though. i love the jacob's creek 2002 shiraz (available everywhere at around P450 per bottle). it tastes a bit heavier than the chez samantha and has a stronger kick.

  14. tnx dudes for the advice. i really appreciate it.

siyanga pala, when you ask them to sign the deed of assignment of shares, ask them na rin to sign resignations as directors/officers or whatever positions they hold in the company.

  15. i've seen the place although i haven't been to the place... what's good there?

i haven't tried the callos in el circulo but they have a tapa version of the cochinillo which is so delicious! i also love their sofas. really comfy. i also like their sisig (crunchy and spicy) and they have lots of yummy desserts.

oh, hubby and i had dinner at alba's along morato a few nights ago and the manager was nice enough to allow us to take their buffet option even if we arrived at slightly after 10. (the buffet table is usually cleared at 10.) the chorizo paella was edible but the star of their spread was the cochinillo! the skin was crisp and tasty while the meat was so soft and juicy. the callos was also perfectly cooked. i also loved the canonigo - even if i liked the texture of that in casa armas better (much fluffier!), the canonigo in alba's tasted so well. it wasn't too sweet so i got to enjoy the sweet cream that came with it.

  16. After your partners sign the contract/document assigning their stocks and whatever rights they have in the corporation, document stamp taxes and capital gains taxes have to be paid to the BIR. If BIR finds that the correct taxes are paid, it will issue a tax clearance. Once the tax clearance is issued, the corporation may issue new share certificates in the new owner/s' name/s and record the assignment of shares in the corporation's stock and transfer book. (SEC approval is NOT required.) After all these, your former partners will no longer be qualified to have board seats. (A board member is required to own at least 1 share of the corporation.) So, a meeting will have to be called in order to elect new directors. The results of the election will be reported to the SEC in the form of a General Information Sheet.

  17. the malate branch, which i think was the original, is quaint.  small, warm and cozy.  the first time i went to the malate branch several years, the spanish owner sat down with us and gave us a tablet of sardines in oil and  garlic with some olives - truly a delight.  this branch gives you a tavern type feeling, the other branches are truly restaurants.

yup, the malate branch is the original branch. unfortunately, my asthmatic self cannot handle the smoke in tavern-like places.
