maybe they already did, but they are millions of light years away so the "signal" is due to arrive in millions of years and by that time we either managed to destroy ourselves or their civilization goes extinct first

and for the almighty believers maybe the aliens are the ones in the "heavens" observing us and making their presence felt thorough miracles

or everything we know is a lie and we are living in a simulation and the aliens aren't done with the simulation yet
