  1. start from scratch.. main player, still chris tiu.. they may reactivate greg slaughter, aldrich ramos... then add some fil ams..

Yeah, tsaka si RR Herrera. Oddly enough, parang di pa ready si Bobby Ray Parks although I'd take a chance on Kiefer Ravena, Arnold Van Opstal and Norbert Torres.

  2. Yes maybe it will make a difference ... then aagin the PBA will include in its agenda (for their upcoming planning session) the new salary cap for each teams as well as the possibility of increasing the 350K/month max salary for a player. A possible counter move by the PBA???

    I certainly think so.

  3. ang pagiging pilipino is not only by blood or affinity. puso! let them live here and be like us. not just go here when its convenient and profitable. and famous. they're second rate players in THEIR country and exploiting the mestizo-adoring filipinos. kung sabagay tayo naman ang tanga that looks up pag foreigner. we deserve them.

The Younghusbands have played here since 2005 and moved for good here in 2008. Aly Borromeo has been toiling here since 2000 and he's basically lived here since then. almost same case with Anton del Rosario.

  4. Well I'm not privy to those figures ... but from what I've read somewhere that not all get P150K per month. Players in the pool have different contracts (in terms of value).

But for discussion purpose, let us say they really are all paid P150K per month ... well in the PBA only the first year is subject to a rookie scale. Usually blue chipper would negotiate for a 2-3 year contract wherein the 1st year is 150K and it escalates on the 2nd and 3rd year. For example, in the case of BGK rookies, this is what I got from wikepedia "Wilson and Aquino were given similar two-year contracts worth P5.7 million, while Labagala got a one-year deal worth P800,000 thousand." If you will compute for their (Wilson and Aquino's) 2 year contract the ave is 237,500 per month for 2 years ... this translates to a salary of 150K a month for the 1st year and goes up to 325k on the second. So based on the example I've shown, clearly maliit un binabayad ng Gilas na 150K a month for 2 years.

So what is the point that I am driving at ... well, blue chipper like Casio and the Fil Ams may get bigger contracts and security (in terms of the # of years) signing with a team in the PBA. Yes Gilas did match what they can possibly get on the 1st year but is it willing to match what these players can possibly get on a 2-3 years contract playing in the PBA? As far as the "role players" on the Gilas team is concerned (ie. Ababou as you mentioned) well if Gilas indeed paid him 150K a month and we know that he is not worth that much, If I am Ababou then I would want to keep playing with Gilas however we all know that he is not among the players includes in the "being retained" list.

As far as the claim that playing for Gilas means being able to play longer since the team plays less games ... well Yes I agree that is a valid point. As for me I will look not only on the actual number of games played but also consider the tough physical grind a player will have to go through playing international ball. We know the level of competition in international games is tougher not to players have to play successive games on a daily basis. This could also be a cause for wear and tear thus players become more injury prone thus also the threat of a short-lived career.

Good points on the salary thing.

Would it makes just as much sense if they get P250,000/month, as is the supposed "new offer" from Gilas?

Also, I agree that playing 8 intense and highly physical games in 8 days is no walk in the park, but the PBA schedule is just as brutal. Also, I'm not so sure I'd say that international games are tougher than PBA games. The skill level may be higher but a sprained ankle hurts just as bad whether you get it playing in the PBA or in FIBA.

  5. well intindihin na lang din natin ang players ... basketball is their means of livelihood. They have their own personal motive. While they may want to be patriotic, they also want to think about their future or as some may claim live their dream to play in the PBA.

Ang akin is ok lang naman na mag pro ang mga yan as long as they would still be willing to play for flag and country when called. Karamihan naman ng national players of different countries now play for professional clubs (except for those still in school) and not exclusively for the national team.

Well, they already earn as much as they would if they joined the PBA kasi 150,000/month ang stipend ng Gilas players... which is the maximum they can get sa rookie contract nila with the PBA. And not everyone will get the maximum.

Also, playing for Gilas means playing less games. Playing less games mean being able to play longer.

Game bukas against Taipei for 3rd place.

Nawala din yung pick and roll with Douthit. 2 times ko lang yata nakita na ginawa nila and both times, naka-lay up sya.

  7. From Wikepedia

    <LI>Tiebreaking criteria:

    • Head-to-head record
    • Goal average on games among tied teams
    • Goal average on all games

    Yun nga.

So pag tie tayo sa Iran or Chinese Taipei, lusot tayo.

Pag Jordan o Japan (If we lose today), may talo.

  8. Must win game mamaya for Gilas.

Kelangan nating sumabay with a win over Korea (4-0), para 4-way tie tayo at 4-1.

  9. Volleyball.

Used to be a bench player (as in di man lang ako nakapasok kahit one game) for the UP Maroons. Altho I was on the team for just one year(freshman year) then I stopped playing na and concentrated on my studies na. Tsaka working student ako nun eh (made the rounds of Wendy's, Jollibee as well as ACA video).

"If we see this referee again in our next game, we will walk out, we'll go home," said an irate Toroman referring to Yuen, who also officiated Smart Gilas' 90-78 win over host Chinese Taipei last night.

"This guy is killing us yesterday (Sunday) and he came today (yesterday) again. How many referees you have? 16? And you put this same referee to officiate us?

"If this guy steps in, we'll go home because his level of officiating is terrible. I never saw this kind of officiating in my whole life. He doesn't know what is a foul and what is not a foul. I don't have problems if he makes mistakes but this guy is purposely killing us two straight times, what is his reason," he added.

It was a great win for us, I think the Phl team is a team that is getting better and better every year and as Iran found out a couple of days ago, they're not easy to beat anymore. Now is like when you beat the Phl, you're beating a very fast, very skilled good basketball team," he added.

Humahanga ang mga kalaban natin sa atin. Next time, tepok sila sa Gilas!

Panalo pa rin tayo and it shows the immense quality of the Gilas players na nalampasan pa rin nila ito.

Congrats, Gilas, and good job Coach Toroman!

  13. Holy kamote!
