  1. Can anyone comment on the lcd screen of the newer macbooks? How's the viewing angle and the brightness? I was checking my friend's first gen macbook and I wasn't impressed with the viewing angle...move your eyes a few inches and the colors noticeably change. the brightness wasn't that uniform either.

I don't know if its just me, but somehow the last gen G4 powerbooks have a better LCD screen than the current macbook. Is it just me?

I wouldn't know about the previous Macs, but I just got a new MBP (my first Mac ever!) last Saturday. Great screen (but then again I'm coming from a PC perspective).

I'm seriously thinking of getting a laptop, but I don't know if i want to spend another 50k for a macbook pro when a macbook can suffice. I'll be using it primarily with indesign, illustrator and some photoshop.

I was debating on that as well -- one of my hobbies is photography, so I wanted to get a Macbook to "get my feet wet" with using a Mac for post-processing. But after trying out my friend's Macbook, I ended up saving up for a Macbook Pro. The dedicated video card was a factor, along with the extra RAM, but the clincher for me was the DISPLAY, for the most practical of reasons -- ANG HIRAP MAG EDIT SA 13.3" SCREEN!!! :S

Your needs may differ, but for me, the MBP was the better choice. Haven't regretted spending the extra amount.

  2. I remember being one of the coolest kids in my batch, because we had 2 PCs at home - a 386DX/33 and a 386SX/25. And not only that -- inupgrade namin yung 386/25 ko para maging MPC - multimedia PC! With a blazing fast 1x (150Kb/s) cd-drive and a Sound Blaster Pro.

Ah the good old days of DOS 3.3, 5, and 6.22.

But I also used to have an Apple ata... basta, the command for "dir" was CATALOG, and "park" was PR#6. Old school talaga.

  3. knight of xentar is an old DOS game...

i had that when i was still in grade school(i think), along with cobra mission and metal and lace

there are better games today with 3d graphics :D

LOL champion! I remember all these three games... nilalaro ko pa sila sa 486DX/4 ko.

Nagkaroon nga ng sequel yung Knights of Xentar and Metal and Lace, but they were released in Japan only...

  4. My old setup in my Accord:

    HU: Pioneer 9450

    Seps: Boston Acoustics RC620s

Sub: Kicker Comp 12" (sealed box)

Amp: US Acoustics USX-4085 (85x4. 240x2 in bridged mode)

Used the amp to power both the sub and the seps. SQ setup, clean and mid-bassy ;) Also bought a separate sub amp (USX-600, 375@2ohms)

Kinalas ko lahat when I sold the car a few years ago, then nagka company car kaya walang setup na muna. Recently moved companies, so I started by reinstalling my head unit. Looking for my old seps, but nawawala; might be purchasing a pair of Focals na rin ;)

OT: when I quit car audio, yung Polyglass was 12k, Polykevs were 20k, and PhP:US$ was P55. Pagbalik ko, 18k na yung Polyglass and 30k na yung kevs, kahit kung ang lakas na ng peso (P47:$1) :S

  5. Back when I was young and foolish ;)

1993 Toyota Corona - 195kph, Skyway (northbound). This was around 6 years ago (when I was in college); my car began shuddering at 150kph, then smoothed out a bit at 170kph, and started shuddering AND rattling at 195kph. I decided to back off by then ;)

1996 Honda Accord - 180kph, C5. This was a few months siguro after the attempt above. Kahit kung pareho silang 2.0L, hirap na hirap na yung Accord ko lumampas ng 170.

  6. Best steak for me would be Arthur's, this steakhouse in NJ where my tito would bring me whenever we'd visit him. Their smallest orders were 12oz, and they had 24oz and 36oz steaks on the menu :D (syempre yung 36oz Kano lang makakasolo)

Locally, I love the Peppercorn Steak in Old Swiss Inn; mahal lang nga kaya special occassions lang. I used to enjoy Tender Bob's when it still served various steaks with various sauces and sides... ngayon parang ang bland na ng menu nila.

  7. I don't know what's the price difference for DSLR's but I'm sure it will be significant.

    Hope this helps.

Hidalgo prices are really a lot lower than mall prices. I remember buying my DSLR for P55k a few years back, when the same thing in Quiapo cost only 47k, and may kasama pang ibang freebies :P

But if you don't know what you want to get, Hidalgo isn't for you. It's not really a place for just browsing around, unless you really have the cash.

If you want another source for cheap cameras, check out www.muradito.com -- they sell (relatively) cheap cameras compared to mall prices. DSLRs are almost at par with the mall, but you get great savings for P&S cameras. Still pricier than Hidalgo, but a lot less of a hassle (they deliver!). I purchased an Ixus 700 from them a few years back and saved more than P6k off the mall price (P22+k vs. P29k in the mall).

  8. Just surfing here in MTC when I came upon this thread... astig, old school memories!

Last time I played was 10 years ago... started out when Revised was relatively new, and there were still some "The Dark" boxes floating around. Kept collecting and building, until I had my cheap red-green Ice Age deck, my white-blue Stasis deck, and my ultra favorite White Weenie deck -- complete with 3 Armies of Allah and a Jihad. Major investment, for a high school student.

Kept playing for five or so expansions -- Fallen Empires, 4th Ed, Ice Age, Homelands, Chronicles. Then my cards were stolen -- all three decks, along with all my tradables (think 5 pages for dual lands alone).

Quit completely after that... but I'd always wondered what college life would have been like with the Magic bug still in me. ;)

    Yun lang, just rambling.
