  1.

]and there's a certain bobby chouinard who pitched for the oakland athletics in the 90's. and he is the only person born in the Philippines to play Major League Baseball.

see! one of our own was making raves 2 decades ago. funny, we never took notice. oh! coz we're all preoccupied with basketball, billiards, boxing and some other stuff. you can throw in the boyband fad back then as well.

but you failed to mention where he was raised. did he develop his baseball skills in the philippines?

on topic: it would be interesting to see how the guys from the uaap will perform in the lo teng cup.

  2. ang pagiging pilipino is not only by blood or affinity. puso! let them live here and be like us. not just go here when its convenient and profitable. and famous. they're second rate players in THEIR country and exploiting the mestizo-adoring filipinos. kung sabagay tayo naman ang tanga that looks up pag foreigner. we deserve them.

how do they exploit the "mestizo-adoring" filipinos? are you saying they're not good enough to be on our national football team? they did achieve a couple of firsts for our country.

by the way, go dragon boat team!!! real pinoys! not team HALF pilipinas.

my sariling thread naman ang dragon boat team.

  3. unfortunately football does not appeal to the masses. bat mas maraming basketball court sa atin kesa football field. and nakikita ko lang hassle sa football e ing playing venue. saan ka maglalaro nyan pupunta ka pang schools na may football field para lang maglaro.

you can still play pick up games anywhere just like basketball. you can even play football on the beach.

nothing against the azkals but i hope they don't just become a fad that after 2 to 3 years laos na sill at nawala na and fan following nila. you have to consider that height is no longer a factor in international competition look at teams like Argentina and Greece. they don't have tall players but they have beaten the US in several games in the past.

i dont see how you can conclude that Argentina and Greece don't have tall players when more than half of both teams are at least 6'7". i would even hazard a guess that both teams' average height was higher than the average height of the US teams they had beaten.

At the same time the no.1 sport in their country is football. you don't need someone from the NBA to support or philippine basketball team. the problem here is the training method. if we are gonna train our players the right way then we could get back as one of the top teams in asia. same thing with the azkals. with proper training this team could advance and improve their ranking.

yep, proper training and good competition.

  4. Philippines planning to host this year's Lo Teng Cup?

Actually, unless the Azkals win all its 3 matches in this 4-nation tournament (Phils, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipeh and Macau), there's not going to be any gain in FIFA points for the Azkals here. The likely outcome here is 2 wins (vs. Chinese Taipeh and Macau) and draw (vs. Hong Kong), which would be better than its 1 win (Macau), 1 draw (CT), 1 loss (HKG) record last year. But still a slight loss in FIFA points.

These friendlies are also too early for the preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup 8-nation Main Draw in March 2012.

Maybe the Azkals is just maintaining goodwill and honoring a tradition in participating; and in hosting, the PFF can get sponsors and earn from ticket sales to recover the cost of refurbishing the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

While it won't give them FIFA points, it would give them additional game experience. It's never too early to prepare. :)

  5. i'm not sure when Dan Palami first handled the national football team. what i'm sure of is before the win over vietnam in the suzuki cup, the national football team was not getting a lot more attention than baseball or any other sport except basketball. so, before the suzuki win, football was in the same boat as the other sports. they are where they are now because they achieved something. There have been many firsts for the Philippines in football( I think these were listed in a previous post). Firsts are always achievements however small. The first words of a baby. The first step they take.

It is sad when sports like wushu and rowing dont get as much attention when they win. I dont even know if we have won championships comparable to the world cup in these sports. Baseball? yes, we've had success in little league. Perhaps xxxxdgnr8xxxx can provide specifics. And I believe there is money being spent in support of the sport. But our success in baseball at the age group level has not yet translated to success at the senior level.

The national football team has achieved some firsts for the country in the past few years even before they got the monetary support that they are getting right now. The baseball team will just have to toil and train some more. With the Philippine Series, it may not be long until baseball achieves something to catapult it to the front of the national consciousness.

  6. the first time i was able to use an RDBMS was on a non-GUI computer. our class was able to use an Oracle database on a 386SX server running on Xenix. The client machines were PC XT clones. We were making a client application using C.

oo nga pala. in the same room was a Sun workstation. The first time I saw a GUI.
