  1. I upgraded my head unit to an Alpine 9886. I have an Infinity Reference 8-inch sub in the back with a sealed enclosure. An Alpine 4-way amplifier for power. And Boston Acoustics Pro Series 5.4 separates for the front stage. The seps sound super sweet. It made me want to listen to all my CDs all over again.

Simple setup, lots of satisfaction.

  2. kung ako si PACQUAIO, tatakbo akong PRESIDENTE NG PILIPINAS HEHEHEHEHEH!!!! may P30-40 million na siya eh, ipamudmod nya sa masa tiyak na mananalo siya hehehe..

Mahina P40M for President brod. To give you an idea, to run for Congress a candidate needs around P80M. Why do you think Congressmen are so hardworking? Working hard to earn back the money they spent I mean ;).

  3. Congratulations to Manny!!!

I can't believe what I read sa news kanina that there are lawmakers who are suggesting to make friday a non-working holiday to welcome Manny Pacquiao.  He is a national treasure -- yes, but I do not agree na kailangan pa gawing holiday ang friday pag-uwi niya.

When the Philippines won the championship sa SEA games, d naman nag-declare ng holiday to celebrate it, right?

Si Bong Revilla yung nag propose. Pumapapel lumalabas tuloy katangahan niya.

  4. I just finished watching  the last few episodes of JLU's season 4 ---- and many are one in saying the writers certainly earned their pay. Every episode (or plots, for that matter ) greatly ties in with the continuum of the DC universe. The last 2 episodes were specially commendable giving more twists and turns in plot than any I have ever seen.

No spoiler --but for Flash fans out there, better keep an eye out when these episodes are shown on local TV. You won't be disappointed! :D

JLU is amazing. Great writers, awesome voice talent, and the dialogue is just first rate.

Season 5 is off to a great start, with another promising story arc starring Gorilla Grodd. It's a great time to be a comics fan, you can get your kicks even from non-comic sources.

  5. I entered this conondrum recently, albeit in a less dramatic manner. I wasn't head over heels in love, crush lang.

Overall I think it's a case to case basis. When I learned she had a bf I asked how they met, how she knows he's the one (they're engaged). From what I gathered she's not blindly in love with him or just clinging, in other words they have a mature relationship. Not the ones where their need for each other is more than their love. So I decided not to make a move anymore. She was happy when I met her so I believe the her guy knows how to make her happy. If I court her I'll probably just ruin a good relationship.

But if it were a different story and I see an opening, I might just try my luck.

  6. It could also be a trait learned from parents. I have a cousin who hit his wife, and I remember that when we were kids his parents used to fight violently. I personally didn't see it but we heard the sounds emanating from the bedroom.

They say we become our parents when we grow up? There's truth in that. My family is thankfully violence free but my dad has a temper sometimes. To him he doesn't know any other way of dealing with the difficulties of life, so he lets loose. Besides EQ wasn't really a big thing when he was growing up. Then when I get mad I catch myself becoming mad like him, and I stop myself because I know better.

It's inexcusable to hit someone you claim to love. But the solution may not lie in beating them up (although it might feel good). Sometimes it helps to understand first why he would resort to violence to deal with things.

  7. Why is this thread so slow? Ang konti ba ng comic collectors dito sa MTC?

I'm buying the mini-series based on Hal Jordan's return, Green Lantern: Rebirth. It's very good. Writer Geoff Johns found a way to resurrect Hal as a (the?) Green Lantern while undoing the whole Parallax/villain mess. He even made Kyle Rayner look good. Problem is there's gonna be an ongoing Green Lantern series with Hal Jordan, another potential expense!

  8. hmmm so the new Batgirl defeated the blood sucking Lady Shiva? ..that definitely changes the order there :)

Yup she did. The new Batgirl was trained since birth to be an assasin by her father, David Cain. Cain was also one of Batman's original trainers. Cassandra Cain is so immersed in the art of combat she can't speak. The centers of the brain that process language, in Batgirl's mind, process attack moves and strategies. She literally reads body language.

I found her character so cool I bought the trade paperbacks. She has since learned to speak, but she's still lethal as ever.

  9. yup, i was referring to Connor Hawke, but based in the JL cartoons...its Oliver Queen... Connor Hawke is the 3rd greatest martial artist in the DC universe behind Lady Shiva & The Batman

Cassandra Cain, the new Batgirl, was the first human to beat Lady Shiva in hand to hand combat. Batman beat Lady Shiva in the Superman/Batman ongoing series by Jeph Loeb, hence Lady Shiva is the third greatest martial artist in the world?

  10. What an interesting thread. I was just in Globe and Smart centers this afternoon pondering what carrier to pick.

Right now I have a Globe postpaid line, it's named to my mom. I got it seven years ago when I didn't have a job. I've been working for several years now and I thought it was time to transfer the name to me. Besides, there's a Sony Ericsson promo I wanted to avail of, the P6000 off - 0% offer. So I got the requirements and lined up. Di naman matagal.

However I was also informed that I would have to change my number if I wanted to avail of a new unit, promo or not. I asked what will happen to my number, rep said it will be available again after 6 months. I asked if I could reserve my number, rep implied I might as well accept that the number is gone.

I went to Smart and they have this nice retention program where you get to keep your number after your contract is up, AND you can choose another phone with special rates, lower than a new subscription. I'm so tempted to switch. If it weren't for the also tempting SE 6 months promo of Globe it would be easier. Decisions....

  11. oo nga anganda nung kantang yon kaya lang underrated siya sa pandinig ng maraming fans.

Spolarium! Sarap pakinggan ng kantang iyon. Moody lyrics, steady riffs, and hooks galore! :boo:

  12.

    i love E'heads and I don't feel embarassed to say that once I was a semi-groupie.

I love E'heads talga. I love their songs and I am so impressed with the lyrics and the nostalgia each of their songs evoke. :)

Thanks for sharing LM. The Eheads are following the Beatles' path more than ever. People who experienced their era always have anecdotes or memories to share. Everyone has their version of "I first heard Eheads when...". :)

Nice bands you can listen to.

Good bands you remember their songs.

Awesome bands touch you with their music.

Now the truly great bands like the Eheads, they become a part of your life. Coloring it with music and adding a soundtrack to your memories.

  13. Almost Famous is one movie that really makes good use of music in relationship with whats going on in the picture. My favorite scene was the one where they're were all huddled in the tour bus, and Tiny Dancer was playing on the radio... loved that one! :D

Tiny Dancer! Almost Famous is one of my all-time favorite movies. Cameron Crowe is a filmmaker who knows exactly which song to play at any given scene. That scene where they all made peace with one another singing Tiny Dancer is a golden moment in cinema for me. :)

  14. the cd's title confirms probably the primary influence in their music: the beatles. after the beatles came out with the anthology sets, artists started renaming hits compilations as anthologies.

the beatles' influence in the eheads is obvious in the way they wrote and arranged their songs: from ligaya to with a smile to kailan to huling el bimbo. even the occasional falsettos were refreshing. :) it's just sad that after the fourth album or so, the eheads' music became stranger and stranger. :(

I can see more Beatles parallels. Ely is like Paul, the one who writes the popular songs. Raymund is like John, the one who writes the more eccentric songs.

I respect how the Eheads evolved themselves even up to the point where it was getting hard to discern where they were coming from. Ely wrote about this in Para Sa Masa, "pinilit kong iahon ka, ngunit ayaw mo namang sumama". This was after their concept Fruitcake album, which I think is a very good album too. A Christmas album you can listen to during and not during the holiday season. The book that accompanied it was integrated well into the album. Up till now I've never seen a local act do something like that.

For me this evolution means the Eheads were being true to themselves and not clinging to popularity by trying to tailor their songs to fit what the masses want. They listened to new influences and if they liked it, integrated it into their style. Even if it means the people who originally picked up their music might not be able to ride on, one of those people is me.

I bought all of their albums, and I have to say my favorites are the earlier ones. Not a lot of songs from Carbon Stereoxide stuck to my mind. But who knows? Maybe a few years down the road I'll be looking for something new to listen to and I might get it.

I might get the feeling I got when I listened to "sa tollgate" in CD2 of the anthology, the warm smiling feeling of Ely and the gang joining your bench in college and jamming with you.

And even if you never see a new Eheads album again, their music is a time capsule in our lives when moments were golden, happiness was simple, and the world offered such possibilities. It's not a paean to something we lost, but a reminder that in our preoccupation with career, relationships and our future, we might forget what's important, the point of why we go on. Why in our lives we usually remember moments, not days.

  15. where the hell is the thread starter :(

Hey eight, thanks for all the contributions you've done to this thread. It's nice to read all the shared memories of the people who post. Kinda like informal bonding :D .

As you well know I've been pretty busy the past week. Haven't been able to play badminton nga eh, bummer. But it was worth it, I'll make you kuwento when we see each other. All that work was a bit of a shock though, a few weeks ago I was just surfing the net eating mais con hielo, next thing I knew I kept going home late and leaving the house early. Langhiya. But it was a great work experience, with the account manager in charge on maternity leave, it was left to the team to do the work and I'm proud to say they rose to the occasion, you'd be so proud of them.

Actually my work isn't done pa, I have a radio interview to assist tom.

So thanks for everything and see you soon :* .

ps I saw na 90 Proof, your second home. Not bad, kinda small but the 80's touches are very nice. It's a bar for our age group talaga. They even had a movie poster of Say Anything. I love that movie!!

  16. Ditto. I love the E'heads. I have at least 2 CDs of each album; one for playing, the other for my collection. Ely Eleandre Eleazar Basiño Buendia  He was the reason I applied in UP  One of the best memories I have was during my college days... my friends and I attending the UP Fair, booze and good conversation at Sunken, while the E'heads play in the background. Life would be a little less fun without them.

Dang, I suddenly feel up to listening to E'heads songs the whole day. Their songs never fail to make me smile.

2 CDs of each album?? Wow, and I thought I was a fan. And it sounds like you have more than admiration for the lead singer ;) .

I can imagine the memories you described. I didn't study in UP, I spent one year in the university down the road B) . A bit more exclusive, but just as fun. I did attend the launch of Cutterpillow in UP though, that was a blast. I remember the looong opening act of The Jerks. They were a fun band too.

Thanks for sharing how the Eheads touched your life. I don't think there will be another band like them, and I'm not sure if I want another band like them. It's just that I feel there's a void where they used to be.

But the Oracle is right, everything that has a beginning has an end.

  17. A greatest hits collection of the Eheads best songs. I bought it even though I have all of the albums they were sourced from. Looking at the CD felt like the passing of an era for me. Reading the list of songs was like reading a series of flashbacks of my college life. I grew up with Eheads, I bought their first tape up right during my last year of high school. Those times felt like they were encased in gold, and when you hold them up to the light they reflect a time in your life when life wasn't just living, you were alive. And the Eheads provided the soundtrack to my life.

The second album Circus reflected the circus my life became during my freshman year in college. I had my first serious crushes to the tunes of "Kailan". "Sembreak" captured what it was like to bum around during the break. I felt what it was like to soar, to be so happy in the company of a group that I rarely feel now that I have a car, a salary, and more material things than I ever had, "Alapaap" is what it's like to soar. And "Minsan" gave me the words to know what it was like to lose a friend.

Ely, Marcus, Buddy, and Raymond, thank you for the music and the memories. I miss you guys.
